Dinner in the Mission/Valencia area

Robert, thank you for your suggestions. We ended up at Gialina's in Glen Park. Loved the wild nettles pizza and the wild arugula, peach, goat cheese, and pistachio salad. The other 2 pizzas and salad our party had were also very good as was the other salad.

Dinner in the Mission/Valencia area

Any suggestions on a place to take my Mom to a birthday dinner tonight in the Mission/Valencia area. I neglected to take care of finding a spot and am in a real bind. Good food is the only requirement, doesn't need to be fancy. Please help.

Seperate Checks?

Thank you all for your replies. My close friends and I always just add the gratuity and split the bill evenly. We figure over time it all works out pretty evenly. I was thinking that we were putting extra burden on the waiter but your replies have helped me revise my thought process.

Seperate Checks?

I was out to lunch yesterday with a group of ten women. As the waiter began to take our order, several of the women asked that we all have seperate checks. I consider this a breach of restaurant etiquette. What do you think?

Costco food finds - 3rd quarter 2011 [old]

No Fage Yogurt at the Sand City, CA store. When I asked someone stocking the referigerator, he said he didn't know if they were going to carry it anymore as Kirkland now had their own yogurt. Anyone tried the Kirkland brand and did you like it?

Thanks Wolfe, I had forgotten about the Diner and it is just the kind of place they would love.

Lunch before Alcatraz Tour

We are picking up friends at SFO at 1pm on a weekday and have reservations for a 6pm Alcatraz tour. I am looking for a place to have a late lunch before the tour. I am thinking about the Slanted Door but wondering if any of you have other suggestions. We like all kinds of food and price up to moderately expensive. Thanks in advance for your help.

What are you making right now?

Stock base for Thanksgiving Gravey. To be frozed til then.
Alton Brown's Free Range Friutcake and another that uses the candied cherries and pineapple type friut. This is my first try at fruitcake and I don't know which kind will be best.
How long does fruitcake keep? Will I have to remake for Christmas or can I just keep spritzing them with brandy til then?

Alfresco Dining in.......Monterey County?

If you stop by this bakery, be sure to try the oatmeal cookie with pieces of dried apricots instead of raisins.

Best clam chowder in monterey?

The place you are looking for is The Grotto. Best clam chowder in Monterey. I haven't been there for a while but they give samples out front and it can be served in a bread bowl.

Goji Berries

One of the news letters I subscribe to today had some information on these berries. Their suggestions for use are trailmix, yogurt, and oatmeal. They also say these are anitoxidant rich and a good source of protein and fiber. They have been credited with curbing appetite, boosting energy and well being earning the name " the happy berry". Hope this helps.

Looking for non-sweet, non-oily jicama recipe

I made this Emeril recipe for jicama slaw, using a yogurt dressing, and loved it. Didn't use so much sugar and it was still a bit sweet just from the jicama. http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recip...

The recipe I have been using for the last 40 years is found inside the wrapper of Baker's German Sweet Chocolate. I wouldn't use any other.

wings for Sunday: bake vs. fry...help?

I do a version of this by boiling the wings for about 5 minutes first. This removes most of the fat and begins to break down the connective tissue.

Food from the Sixties?

It was no mistake, it is an old Sunset recipe from the sixties. As written it is a jar of mustard and a jar of red current jelly over cocktail wieners. It actually tastes pretty good.
