back in town help me choose

Ended up going with All`Oro, as I`m quite sure I`ll wander over to Rex and Gensola on my own next week.. Just wanted to check in and say we had a wonderful meal. The service, which was my main concern, was actually excellent. We had two very young waiters, but they were very attentive but not overly intrusive, and both the grownups checked in at our table pretty frequently. And the food was terrific. SO..

back in town help me choose

oops thanks. I knew that Pipero had opened pretty recently.

well, its mostly about what I want, they like to go out with me because I take them to the foodie places they couldn`t normally go to. ...

I thought I had read some non raves about All`Oro recently, but it was kind of top of my list, --- Pipero is near my house, so I could almost just run over there myself one evening or lunch..

do you have a preference...

back in town help me choose

Ok, I`ve been on the road way too much for work these days and the list of places I need to try keeps getting longer. I`m taking my friends college age (roman) kids out to dinner, (ok using them as an excuse to go out...)

Anyone want to help me choose between
Metamorfasi
All`Oro
Pipero Al Rex (tried to go a couple of times but could never make it work)
La Gensola

i`ve seen Metamorfasi written about online, but it`s not in the 2011 L`Espresso guide.. is it new?

Novita a Roma?

Ha. Probably does predate August, I remember people telling me about the bartender. I never went because I seriously object to that place. However, if the bar is still up and running in the winter, I guess I will have to wander by.
I will definitely let you know.

Novita a Roma?

Thanks again,
I`m looking forward to trying out Pipero next week. I swung by Antico Forno. Frankly it looks like the same old tired bread and pastries that they had before, just with a brand new modern decor..
Sadly I kind of have to agree about Propaganda, especially about the service. Still, the place is really pretty as you say, and I did have some pretty good cocktails, and it was a nice enough place to hang out in the afternoon and is on this side of town so, there is that....

Novita a Roma?

thanks! Monti is my near me and I`e walked by Aromaticus a few times since I`v been back and wondered about it... and gee, fine dining at Hotel Rex - I `m definitely going to have to go check it out..
Unfortunately, what you said about Caffe Propaganda is in line with what another friend told.. that`s disappointing.

Novita a Roma?

So I`ve been away for months for work. Anywhere new, good, fun opened since August, anywhere that`s gotten better, worse?
Anybody been to Cafe Propaganda?

suggestions for bucharest or romania

I know ther aren't too many posts about Bucharest, but I'll be here for three months. Anyone have any suggestions? my tastes run the gamut. upscale, grungy, mom and pop, local ethnic whatever.

thanks

Bucharest, Romania

thank you! i will be in bucharest for 3months for work and have no idea where to go. i will be trying these out...

10 of the best restaurants in Rome - New article by The Guardian

pretty much agree with the other posters. I would say that L`archeologia, a recent find for me is fast becoming one of my favorite places for Sunday lunch.
And it saddens me to say, that while I have adore Ditirambo for years, I had a horribly disappointing meal there not so long ago, and the one before that was not so great as well. hope they get it together.

Etabli, in Rome, anybody heard of it?

guess I will have to check it out. When I mentioned it to my roman friends they were like -- its where, must be for tourists (admittedly my first reaction as well) and also that they had never heard or it..

Thanks, I`ll let you know how it goes.. even if the food is not great, its always nice to find somewhere to go in Rome for a decent drink.

Rome

where`s Bacocco, I don`t think I know it? Otherwise pretty much agree with your list, although in terms of quality of mescita I would have to prefer Goccetto then barrique and roscioli. Don`t really like tre scalini at all, unless I`m looking to have a spritz in a crowd...

I agree with minchilli about Gigetto, and have heard others speak bably about Nonna Betta. My roman friends really adore Paris in Trastevere, but they have been going there forever and I do always have a better meal when I go with them

Etabli, in Rome, anybody heard of it?

well the guy who mentioned it told me the wine bar portion of it was not so special but that the food was really good so I`m tempted.

Etabli, in Rome, anybody heard of it?

Last week I met a tourist in Rome at my local wine bar, and he told me several times about this restuarant Etabli where he said he had the best meals of his whole visit here. It`s on viccolo delle Vacche; an area that I don`t normally associate with good restaurants...

However, he seemed like he had good taste, at least in the wines he picked. Anybody ever heard of it/been there?

Good authentic food in Rome

thanks for your (and others on this thread) comments on this subject. It's sums up better than i ever could what I've been thinking and wanting to say forever.

In Rome, the restaurants Baby and Imago

I was stunned when I heard Imago had a michelin star as I had a medicore to bad meal there several I suppose it could have been an off night, but I found both the menu and the decor to be uninspiring. I've never wanted to go back and try again.
I've always enjoyed Baby the few times I've been there, athough not in the last 6 months or so as I've been out of Rome

Back to Myrtle Beach area

Am back to visiting my parents in North Myrtle Beach and Louis Fish Camp was always one my favorites in the area. Now that they have closed, (anybody know what happened to them? i thought I that the new venture didn't work out) can any one suggest an alternative? Also, is Sea Blue still any good?

Rome report- just back

Sounds like you had a nice trip. I'm glad you liked ottomezzo, I like it too, it's newish, and I'm hoping it works out for them.
You dodged a bullet a Ferrara by just snacking at the wine bar. Although they are lucky in their location, the food at the restuarant has been mediocre and overpriced for some time now.

Myrtle Beach/Pawleys Island Louis's Fish Camp

thanks for all the info, even though it kind of confirmed some not good news.
anyway good news wise, I did end up eating at sea blue when I visited and had a enjoyed a pretty nice meal there. Although I do kind of have to think that what made it stand out was that it was in myrtle beach. In a more food inspired area or big city it might have more trouble standing out. Still, I'll put it on my list of places to eat when I'm in the area.

Myrtle Beach/Pawleys Island Louis's Fish Camp

Louis's was always one of the few places I never missed when I went to visit my parents in Myrtle Beach, and now my dad tells me he heard they had either closed. Can anybody local either confirm or hopefully deny this? I was also looking forward to trying Oroboso's on an upcoming visit, but I just saw something on the internet about them closing too. Does anybody know about that?
I hardly ever see SeaBlue mentioned on the board, but my mom really loves it and is wanting to take me there - what do you guys think?

It's a long shot... specific restaurant in Rome

I'm pretty sure the restuarant is Tudini - I live in the area and checked it out on my way to the Metro the other morning. The address is Via Cavour 52/54/56 and is opposite Saxon. I grabbed the business card - their phone is 06 4743905 and fax is 06 4890310. Their zip code wasn't on the card, but it should be 00184. Nice of you to want to say thank you for good service.

Rome restaurant near Hotel Majestic via Veneto

Tuna,Chianppi and Tullio are all great recommendations, and they are all pretty different from each other. There's also a new place on Via Boncompagni 83 called Ottoemezzo which you might also want to check out, I guess modern Italian cooking. I think their lunch menu has some good deals, although its not your usual trattoria cooking (which for me is a plus)

PRESERVED LEMONS IN ROME

Hey Rome residents - anyone seen preserved lemons (Moroccon style) for sale around town? Seems like there should be , but I haven't seen them around in any of the shops near Piazza Vittorio (I live in the neighborhood). I usually make them myself, but I'm out and need for a recipe. Thanks

Rome Restaurants -- Concierge Recommendations -- What Do You Think?

Just to add to some of the other comments-
I think that Il Pagliaccio and Baby are really good as well (I went to Don Alfonso about a year ago I think, was disappointed. Not my idea of a 2 star restuarant, but maybe it was an off night) .
Armando is great and manages to please tourists without alienating their devoted local following
Pierluigi - I would a agree that we generally consider it a tourist restuarant. Expensive for the quality of the food, but its true that its nice to eat outside there if you can stand the street musicians. I've found it to be a good place to bring out of town work contacts on an expense account, they have a really extensive menu so something for everyone.
I returned to Antico arco about a month ago after not going for several since years since they had gone downhill. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, and in the beginning it was so I went away disappointed. It doesn't seem like its the best place for a quick dinner...
I would stay away from Sabatini...

Rome Restaurants - Slow Food Recommendations

The rome chapter of slow food kind of imploaded a year or so ago, and I don't think their website works anymore. They weret trying to re-form last time I checked. You could check in with the lazio chapter, although I don't think they have a restuarant recommendations section. I could be wrong about this, but I dont think that slow food does do restuarant recommendations on their websites. They would prefer you buy their book......Would love to hear though if you find a link.

Eating out in Rome

I'm a single woman and I live in Rome, and since sometimes I do eat out by myself when I can't persuade my local friends to dine out, and I've never had trouble, in fact usually they go out of way to be nice. In terms of walking around at night - Rome is safer generally than many american cities, but it is still a big city. Keep your eyes open and use your common sense, and you'll be fine.

4 months in Rabat

Hi, I'm a chowhound from Rome and I'll be spending 4 months or so in Rabat (with another couple of weeks in Ouarzazate). Am looking for any rrecommendations of restuarants or food stands or patissere. I'm lucky to have a meal reimbursement from work, so fortunately the cost isn't an issue, just the food. I might try to go to other cities occasionally on the weekend if I have time, so if there are any don't miss restuarants somewhere else I would love to know.
Also, a curiousity - I may not be able to persuade any of the people I am working with to venture out for dinner. What are the possibilities that a woman could dine allow here (maybe only in certain kinds of places?)
thanks

rome--are these still good?

Closer to home then Volpetti but with lots of great cheeses and meats, plus great (costly) roasted chicken, supli etc is Franchi on Via Cola di Rienza (its kind of right next to Castroni, a market that has lots of foreign type food supplies and good coffes (this is the only good Castroni btw, there are others around town but with lots less stuff and service.
Roman cooking wise, we always have fun at Sora Margherita (not in prati) on Piazza Delle Cinque Scole 30 (there is no sign), a real hole in the wall old roman place. Food is not high level, but decent roman cooking, and pretty unique in its way. Mostly only open lunches, try not to go when it is hot.
Low key near piazza cavour is Da Cesare, something for everyone including pizza, usually all pretty good, old roman waiters.
Also in prati, siciliainbocca. Sicilian cooking, decent fish, brighly colored livelyplace.
Gelato - Al Settimo Gelo Via Vodice not to far from piazza mazzini

Hotel de Russie / Lungarno

check out luxury link which pretty reguarly has has deals there. The de Russie is a great hotel, plus location, great drinks in their garden etc. I would definately stay there again. We put lots of people for work there if we can afford.

Clash of the Roman Pizza Titans!

Via SS Quattro in Celio right?
