the galley in santa monica

I have to comment on this old thread, having been there twice in the past several months when visiting my son who lives close by. Used to live in LA, and went there once at the time, like in 1980. I did not return until late last year, and have been there twice since, and I love it. Classic in several ways. Terrific cocktails, steamed clams are great of course, killer garlic bread, and the moules frite special last fall was also very good. I would not order a steak there, but it is worth a visit if you are in the area for sure.

Breakfast in Summerlin?

MTO Cafe in "Downtown Summerlin" (stupid name). http://mtocafe.com/ssummerlin-mto-caf...

Pizza by the slice?

I would go with a Gotham slice from Five50 over all of those, and I will likely have one tomorrow. With one of their good drafts.

Joe Vicari's Andiamo in The D downtown. Solid but not destination worthy.

Thanks for the review! I live here, but you don't have to live here to know that there are many great choices when you want to have a great prime bone-in ribeye or strip. I was interested in maybe trying this place for the meatballs and pastas and other stuff, so I probably will!

Brief trip report Jan 23-26

Yes, Noodles Asia at the Venetian (next to the sports book) is more than acceptable!

Lagasse Stadium vs B&B Burger Bar

I enjoyed the Burger Bar (actually got it to go while watching college games one Saturday in October); good burger, decent selection of IPAs on tap.

Trip Report (long): Lotus of Siam, Sweets Raku, Blossom, Border Grill, Bouchon Bistro, Noodles

"V= It can take longer to get from Caesars to Mandalay Bay as it does to go from Henderson to Summerlin sometimes." Oh please, No, it does not. I have lived here for ten years.

Please help with an unusual request.

Many people that I know, and whose opinions I trust, have given the Bronze Cafe high marks. http://www.thecenterlv.com/

Hugo's Cellar?

The food is mediocre regardless of who you are with.

"Best of Las Vegas" - REALLY?!?!

Olive Garden has been the "Readers' Pick" for best Las Vegas Italian for several years running. All you need to do is read any of the comments to any R-J article (I hesitate to call the Review-Journal "fishwrap", because that would be cruel to fish) to see the mindset of the people who vote in this particular poll.

Le Carre' - NEW & FABULOUS [St. Barts]

Instead of asking myself how many meals I can eat here, I will ask YOU - where is this?

Steaks: is Prime the way to go?

I've eaten there several times; about two months after it opened and most recently about a month ago, and it is uniformly excellent.

Diners, Drive-ins, Dives, and Disgusting

I'm too lazy to read some of the earlier posts here, so I'm not sure if this has been addressed, but....my only complaint about this show is his (to me) annoying habit of being in the kitchen asking the chef how a particular dish is cooked and then interrupting him/her with his guesses as to ingredients/cooking time/ cooking temperature.

Food Network Does It Again

Well, the prep time for Paula Deen's english peas recipe is five minutes. Four minutes to find a can opener, and one minute to eat a few biscuits, y'all.

Anyone have any comments on BJ's Brewhouse and Restaurant

There is also a Yard House at the Red Rock Casino. Gordon Biersch does have pretty good garlic fries.

One of my favorite places. It has had its share of Health Department issues, but be that as it may...

summerlin

Summerlin is pretty vast - what part? Grimaldi's (in Boca Park) has good NY-style pizza, on a par with Broadway Pizza on Rancho. There is a terrific taco/burrito/menudo place (Tacos el something, I can't remember the name) in the Albertson's shopping center on Cheyenne and Rampart/Durango (it's next to Steiner's). I second the Vintner Grill and Marche Bacchus recommendations as well. And, if you are in the mood for a good steak but don't feel like going to one of the gazillion Strip steakhouses, the ones at Red Rock Casino (TBones) and Suncoast (SC Prime) are quite good.

Grand Cayman -- August 8-15, 2011

I have been to Calypso Grill many times for dinner, and loved it!

An Italian dinner for one.

Car? Bootlegger's Bistro. No? That's a tough one. Maybe Rao's, for ridiculously over-priced, but yet competently-prepared, standard cliche dishes.

Looking for something old school downtown

Golden Steer has been on a "downhill alert" for quite some time. Go to Triple George, decent ambience.
