Manischewitz Banana Split Macaroons - LA area?
Has anyone seen them recently. I believe Ralph's had them a few weeks back but am now unable to find this particular flavor. Has anyone seen this type in the last few days? Thanks!

Diet Coke - Desperately Seeking Kosher for Passover in LA!
I've searched the web and have discovered that, officially, Coca Cola Kosher for Passover products are not going to be available in markets in California this year. However, I went to Cambridge Farms in North Hollywood tonight and they had plenty of regular Coca Cola for Passover but are completely out of Diet Coke, which they did have.
I spoke to a manager-type who said their shipment of Coca Cola products came from New York and they sold all the Diet Coke they had. Has anyone seen Diet Coke (2 liter bottles) that's Kosher for Passover (specific yellow cap) recently in the LA area?
Thanks!

Coming from LA - Restaurant recommendations near Hotel Nikko
Coming up to San Francisco from Los Angeles for my birthday weekend. We're staying at Hotel Nikko near Union Square and are only in town from late Friday through Sunday afternoon. This is a special birthday for me (50th) so I'd love to get some restaurant recommendations from those in the know. We'd like to stay fairly close to the hotel but would be willing to travel if there's a place we shouldn't miss. Not into super-fancy, less is more - into seafood, Italian, steaks, etc.
We've previously been to Sear's Fine Food for breakfast, any other great breakfast spots near Union Square?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Decent pizza in Burbank for kids birthday party?
Thanks for all the feedback. I'm very familiar with Dino's, but don't think it's cost effective for feeding 25 kids plus assorted parents. That's A LOT of pizzas to buy = a lot of dough $$. Any other suggestions for decent pizza in this area for feeding a large group? I'd go with Costco, but it has to be delivered because we'll be busy at the party and won't be able to leave to pick-up.
Thanks!
Decent pizza in Burbank for kids birthday party?
Looking for a decent-to-good affordable pizza place in Burbank that will deliver for a kid's birthday party. Need to feed about 25 kids. Costco pizza isn't an option due to the delivery issue. I know there's a "Big Mama & Papas" pizza in Burbank and they specialize in the huge party pie, but, honestly, don't love their pizza.
Because of the number of kids to feed, need something price-wise that won't break the bank.
Thanks!
Need help in Northridge/Granada Hills
How could this thread have gotten so far without mentioning Brent's? Brent's puts all the other places mentioned to shame.
Oak Fire Pizza Sherman Oaks-Is it really Deep Dish?
I've been reading lots of conflicitng information regarding Oak Fire Pizza and if they truly serve Chicago Style Deep Dish pizza. Most of the reviews comment on their thin crust pizza and one said they don't serve Deep Dish style. Not interested in thin crust.
My little boy likes Numero Uno, and wants to experience a good /real Deep Dish pizza. - we're talking just a basic Cheese pizza - nothing fancy. Has to be in the San Fernando Valley. Was hoping Oak Fire would be the answer. Looking forward to hearing the real deal on whether Oak FIre fits this bill.
Thanks!
Suggestions for great classic French Dip Sandwich in the SFV
Looking for a tasty, traditional French Dip Sandwich with Roast Beef piled high in the San Fernando Valley. I'd like a more casual restaurant/stand than a full service-restaurant. I'm a fan of the French Dip at the Pasadena Sandwich Company, so thinking about something along those lines, but in the Studio City/Sherman Oaks/Encino/Burbank area.
Thanks!
CPK ASAP closed in Sherman Oaks! Why?
Went there today and the place is gone! Like it never existed. Was just there about two weeks ago and it was always crowded. Does anyone know why this location closed?
The information guy at the Westfield Desk at the Mall said CPK Corporate has closed all ASAP locations, however, in searching the CPK website, it looks like many CPK ASAP's are still in business.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Best cupcakes from Woodland Hills to Burbank
Looking to pick-up a dozen for a small family birthday party tonight - kids and adults are in the group. I'd like someplace really good, yet semi-reasonably priced. This time around, I'm choosing to avoid Victor Benes, supermarkets or Costco.
I'd love a place that has more of the classic types, in addtion to the newer, more designer selections - i.e. their version of the classic Hostess cupcake, etc.
Appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks!
Original Tommy's vs Tommy Jr.'s Chili Taste-Off
That's what I'd love to know! I've seen this question posted a few times and no one has ever answered it - What Food 4 Less and/or Ralph's markets have you ACTUALLY SEEN this Tommy's Chili in? I haven't been able to find it anywhere.
I spoke to a Food 4 Less employee on the phone, asking they carried the chili, they said they didn't, but his store manager absolutely saw it at a Ralph's (same parent company) in Hollywood. When I pressed him on what specific location of Ralph's in Hollywood his manager saw it, he said the manager couldn't remember.
In the meantime, I've checked just about every Food 4 Less in the Valley and I've yet to see it anywhere.
Details please on who actually carries it.
Thanks.
Tommy's Frozen Chili in Ralph's or Food for Less?
Are there specific locations of Smart and Final and/or Albertsons in the San Fernando Valley that definitely stock Dolores Chili?
Tommy's Frozen Chili in Ralph's or Food for Less?
Hi All,
I've been reading for quite some time that Tommy's Chili will be available in the frozen section of Food for Less and/or Ralph;s Markets.
I called the Food for Less in North Hollywood yesterday and was told they didn't carry it, however, the worker on the phone said the Manager of that Food for Less saw it at a Ralph's in Hollywood. He didn't know which one.
I called about eight Ralph's in the Studio City/Sherman Oaks/North Hollywood area and no one said they carried it - when I asked about it, no one ever heard of it and they all kind of thought I was crazy.
Has anyone seen the frozen Tommy's restaurant chili in a San Fernando Valley location?
Thanks.
No more Hebrew National Kosher Hot Dogs at Costco Food Court [moved from Los Angeles board]
The big issue is Costco has done away with serving a Kosher dog at the food court. At least with a Kosher dog, I could feel a bit better about what's inside than eating a generic hot dog with who-knows-what thrown in. Yes, many of the Kirkland products I've tried have been just the same quality-wise as brand names, however, if this was just a change where the dogs were still made by Hebrew National under the Kirkland label, the dogs would still be kosher - ie Kirkland Kosher All Beef Hot Dogs. That is not the case.
No more Hebrew National Kosher Hot Dogs at Costco Food Court [moved from Los Angeles board]
The change would have been more tolerable if it changed to a Kirkland Kosher dog. The fact that it isn't Kosher is a big deal. At least with a Kosher dog, you know the make-up of the dog is better than what you get with a non-Kosher dog. Looks like Costco is cutting corners.
No more Hebrew National Kosher Hot Dogs at Costco Food Court [moved from Los Angeles board]
I'm not saying it's the greatest dog I ever had. I too get it strictly for the price. However, i did like the fact that at least it was a Hebrew National Kosher dog so, quality wise, it was better than most other funky cheap hot dogs out there.
No more Kosher Hebrew National Hot Dogs at L.A. Costco food court
I dropped into Costco in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles today (this location has a large number of Jewish customers/products) and noticed something looked different - all the red Hebrew National umbrellas that adorned all the tables in the food court were gone. After shopping, I stopped for the $1.50 hot dog special and saw that the dog is now a Kirkland Brand 100% beef dog. The graphic on the sign has changed and any mention of Hebrew National or a kosher dog is now history.
Costco has been serving Hebrew National as long as I can remember. Anyone have any information as to why they changed, what happened, etc?
Thanks.

65 cent garlic bread at The Smokehouse?
Someone mentioned recently that in honor of it's 65th Anniversary, for the rest of this month, The Smokehouse in Burbank is offering it's famous garlic bread for 65 cents.
Is the 65 cent special for a full order? Could you get a full order for that price to go? Is it for an individual order/piece when dining in? I'd love to get some more info. I went to the Smokehouse's website and I couldn't find anything listed about the 65 cent special.
Thanks very much!

Da Kitchen in San Diego?
We went to the location in Maui several times last summer. Picked up a to-go menu and noticed a location was listed in San Diego. Heading to SD from LA and hoped to stop there.
I did a Google search and it looks like this location is history and has been replaced by another Hawaiian-style restaurant. Is this accurate? If so, why did the San Diego location of Da Kitchen close? How is the new place and how does it compare to Da Kitchen?
Thanks.
Affordable cupcakes in the SFV
Looking for a spot to get tasty, better-than-average cupcakes for my son's pre-school graduation family party. I know about Leda's and the like, however, for this particular occasion and the number of people involved, the gourmet places will be a bit pricey.
Any ideas for either supermarket or bakery cupcakes that price-wise fall in between say a Ralph's and Leda's? We're thinking about doing a pull-apart group of cupcakes with a baseball theme.
Thanks.
Can't find Tam Tam Crackers for Passover
Has anyone seen this Kosher for Passover crackers this year in the Los Angeles area? I buy them every year, have never had a problem finding them, this year, I can't find one market in LA that has them. Have checked Gelson's, Ralphs, Vons, Albertsons, no one has them.
Did Manischewitz manufacture them this year?
Canter's @ Dodger Stadium
Heard on the news that the Pastrami goes for $11. Has anyone tried it yet? How does the size of the sandwich (meat-wise) compare to what's sold at the deli?
Going to a game soon and wondering if I should go for two Dodger Dogs ($5 each this season) or Canter's for $11.
Thanks!
Canter's @ Dodger Stadium
I'm afraid to ask. How much is a Pastrami at Dodger Stadium? With the prices for Dodger Dogs and the other items through the roof, (not to mention parking and ticket prices for a team that's been so disappointing the last several years, and I'm a HUGE Dodger fan), I can't imagine how much they're asking for a sandwich.
Need really tasty restaurant for special Anniversary
So, and I know it's no excuse, due to the craziness of everyday life, I'm guilty of waiting until the last minute to plan my tenth anniversary dinner for this Saturday.
Please help in recommending ASAP a great, tasty Italian or grill-type (think Arroyo Chop House, Parkway Grill) restaurant in the Pasadena, San Fernando Valley or Westside/Santa Monica areas. I'm open as far as location is concerned. I would pick Parkway or Arroyo, but we were just there.
Looking forward to your suggestions.
Soup's Grill in Woodland Hills - Opinions?
Went there today for lunch. While the baseball memorabilia and design of the place is cool (a dugout facing the bar, large chairs in the shape of a baseball glove), the food was decent, but not worth the money. Almost ten bucks for a Patty Melt or burger - cheese is extra. Most of the sandwiches were in the ten dollar range.
We don't have many sports-themed restaurants where I can bring my kids in the Valley so it's kinda nice to have this new place, but I thought the prices were a bit high for what we got.
Has anyone been? Opinions? Favorite dishes?
Thanks!
Craving Matzah Ball Soup in Monterey Park
Unfortunately no. The Jewish population (or lack thereof) in the SGV isn't big enough to support it. The closest you'll get is Billy's in Glendale, which, in my opinion, is mediocre at best. It certainly is no Brent's or Art's or Langer's.
You'll have to venture to the San Fernando Valley where you have Brent's (the original Northridge location is MUCH better than the newer location in Westlake Village), Art's in Studio City and surprisingly, Jerry's Matzoh Ball Soup is very good. I don't care for too much else at Jerry's but their Matzoh Ball sure hits the spot.
