Best Soon Doo Bu in k-town now that BCD is gone?
I'm still sobbing over the loss of BCD (I believe it will come back later this year), and am wondering where to get my fix. I used to like Seoul Garden but had a few experiences where the Soon Doo Bu was a little greasy, and that caused my move over to BCD. Now, I am lost. Please help!
Dinner recommendations for 8 fun people in Tribeca
I would go with Forgione. It's a beautiful restaurant, superb food, and fun too. To me Landmarc is a nice local to take the kids to, but I don't think it fits the bill for what you are looking for. Locanda Verde would be my second choice for what you describe. I highly recommend Weather Up for drinks. They have inventive cocktails and it's a lovely space with great service.

Alternative to Peach Farm?
hi. I really like Peach Farm and visit whenever in town, but I was wondering if any of the nearby Chinese restaurants have eclipsed it? I'll be in town tomorrow staying near PF and was hoping for a great Chinese dinner. Any regional variants will work... Doesn't have to be Cantonese.

Matsugen (Update)
I recommend the Bakudan, which is sea urchin, salmon roe, scallops, tuna, quail egg, which you wrap in seaweed yourself. Very delicious. The Kumamoto oysters with yuzu are great too. Don't miss the home made tofu if they have it. Their black cod, while a very common dish, is superb, and goes well with the cold inaka soba. Throw in a few pieces of sushi (whatever you like), and you have a great meal for two. For desert, don't miss the grapefruit jelly.
Matsugen (Update)
I'm so depressed. Found out about it last night and immediately booked one final uni-fest for Friday night. My wife and I love it and are in mourning... we love the place.
Rosa Mexicano - what to get?
I think I once had passable short ribs there, but it was a long time ago, and in general everything was just so so.
Which Tribeca restaurant for my birthday?
Forgione is really superb. Vibe-wise, It's more informal (like Locanda Verde) than Bouley.

Where can I find great Carciofi alla giudea?
My parents are visiting Rome and it reminded me I haven't eaten these deep fried artichokes in ages. Is there anywhere that excels at them?
Has anyone been to Acappella Restaurant (crnr Hudson and Chambers)?
I live on the block and have never tried it - it always seems uninviting and deserted from the outside. Has anyone had any food experiences there? Please let me know...

Inexpensive (take-out or counter svc) dinners in Flatiron/Union Sq?
Num Pang.... their 5 spice pork belly is fantastic. There is a small area to eat upstairs.

THIS COULD BE DISASTEROUS
I feel your pain. Just know that there is one place worse than PH, and that is Mars 2112 i.e. things could be worse. My recommendation is as per below to "take one for the team" and thank your lucky stars they don't know about Mars 2112.

Alternative to Bellavitae for wife's birthday?
Eventually, our Bellavitae dinners were put to an end - it recently closed down. So with a teary eye we tried Palma for our wedding anniversary last week. I'm happy to report that the meal was a huge success. Palma is very similar to Bellavitae in its understated and relaxed setting, the staff are wonderful, and the food (which we shared) is superb. Here's what we had: The caprese and beet salads were very good. The Malfatti (a dumpling of spinach and buffalo ricotta cheese) was absolutely delicious, and the tagliata di manzo may even have been the best I have had. The pannacotta and cheese cake were also memorable. So it looks like we have a new favorite. Nonetheless, we'll miss Bellavitae.
what to order at Back Forty
They were both on the menu. I can't remember what the special appetizer was, but the entre was steak, although I did not see anyone having it.
what to order at Back Forty
My wife and I were there last night. We shared the baby octopus salad and the watermelon salad, both of which were excellent. Then my wife had the burger which she said was delicious, and I had the lamb sausage which I can definitely recommend. We also had the corn succotash which worked really well. For desert, you cannot miss the donuts - they are sublime. The berry pie, however, didn't really work - the pastry was soggy. And the red and black is probably the best cocktail I've had in ages.
Looking for great Brooklyn restaurants for dinner close to the 2/3 subway
I lived in Manhattan, close to the 2/3 line. I'm looking for great brooklyn restaurants along the 2/3, the closer the better as baby sitting costs make every moment precious! My wife and I had a really delicious dinner at James the other night, and this is what started me off thinking about this. The restaurants can be any cuisine as long as the quality is high and they are close to the 2/3. Preferably they have some ambiance too. Any thoughts?
Tribeca/West Village - Dinner: Need romantic, hip, great wine list, food and service
Agree wholeheartedly. Not sure it is hip, but it is delicious!
Mizu Sushi in Flatiron
I'd put Mizu quite a few notches above your average Sushi place. Definitely no 15 East, but I rate it. They have a very good spicy scallop roll, fresh uni (usually). They do a salmon Tar Tar which is very nice. I would not have any of the cooked food - it's not bad, but it's not great.
The restaurant itself is dark and loud, and a little inconsistent with the high quality of sushi.
Personally I am not a Yama fan - I find the sushi too big; it feels like it might bite back.

Try Recette. A few people have posted on it. It's really fantastic. If you do go, please make sure you have the pea soup!

Searching for a great croissant - my report
I too miss Payard... I suggest trying Kaffe 1668 - their croissant are really good. Larger than the French make them, but still buttery. I've always gone there just for coffee and then I read a post on CH about their pastries and have since become addicted. With the passing of Bouley Market, there are not a lot of options...

"Best" takeout for FiDi/Battery Park (delivery/seamlessweb/pickup)
rolls: spicy salmon roll, spicy girl special roll, fire dragon special roll;
sushi: fluke, salmon, tobiko, uni, unagi. NOT Tamago - it is hit and miss.

For sushi, have you tried Tokyo Bay? I was pleasantly surprised - it was very good. I am not sure if they deliver outside Tribeca or not.

I recommend Jaya, which is Malaysian. We ordered via seamlessweb on Monday- had the Silk Road Tofu (excellent), Malay Chow Fun(excellent), and Shrimp Sambal (just OK). I see they have quite a few noodle dishes, so you may be able to satisfy your Pad Thai craving. If not, the Malay Chow Fun really is worth a try. As a reference, to me Lili's is just acceptable and Doyers, is OK, but not great.
Tamarind
Had the tandoori lamb chops on Friday - they were excellent. The shrimp dish (I forget the name) was delicious but a little visually unappealing as the sauce is brown. We also had saag paneer, and the trio made for a superb meal.
Loving Arirang's Sam Gye Tang - does anywhere else come close?
I've been to Arirang on 32nd street for Sam Gye Tang twice in the last week. It's just so delicious. Now that I'm hooked on Sam Gye Tang, I was wondering if anywhere else serves a version that comes close to Arirang's in terms of taste and quality?

Bouley Market has closed
See http://dinersjournal.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/04/13/more-changes-for-david-bouley/
Oh, and they had some great soups... tasty but not too salty.
Bouley Market has closed
Very upset about this - they had the greatest roast chickens, and fantastic pastries.
Lomo saltado somewhere downtown?
Hi. I had it for the first time ever (a Mohonk Mountain House of all places!) and would love to have it somewhere in the city. I live in Tribeca, so downtown would be best. Any ideas?
kelp / hai dai
Does anyone know any restaurants in manhattan that serve hai dai with chopped garlic and chili? It's such a great dish, but all I ever seem to be able to find is fried which I don't enjoy.
Where to feed a vegetarian (who'll eat a little fish) down by the high line?
Blossom is not too far - a few months ago we walked the high line and then went there and had a lovely meal (neither of us are vegetarians but we enjoyed the food, which is all vegetarian).
