Loblaw local food push - whaddya think?

Amazing how the times have changed, and how corporations jump on the marketing bandwagon - only a few years ago Loblaws was questioned about their lack of local produce and their response was the lack of consistent volume available locally - they preferred to offer their customers a constant supply of consistent product ( albeit mediocre quality). Still it is a step forward if for no other reason than to get people thinking about what they eat and where it comes from!

Where to get: ketchup cups, like McDonald's, for Jelly Shots...

Try Bulk Barn - I think they are in the candy section.

Port Stanley - Foodie Paradise

Port Stanley is about 230 km from Toronto - straight south of London - usually takes about 2 hours 15 min depending on traffic. It's a great getaway for a day or two - if you are going in the summer or on weekends its a good idea to book accommodation before you leave- rooms can be scarce!

Verveine

Not the same owners - one of original owners has moved out of town, the other disappeared - people who have been running it for last couple of years sold in January - to former Le Select chef and his partner - hope they open soon - can't wait to see what they have been doing in the place!

Best food in Leslieville!?!

I am technically an ex-leslievill(ain?!?) now but still have ties to the hood and know the restaurant scene there altogethre too well.

tips - food wise - tomi-Kro is very good for dinner ( Laura Prentice - of Lolita's Lust and Chinchilla lounge at the stove helm) I used to love Okay Okay diner ( corner of Queen & Bertmount) for breakfasty stuff - there is a newish sushi place on the south side of Queen a few doors over from Verveine that does great takeout. Stratengers Pizzas are always good ( wood burning oven) Verveine changed hands just over a year ago - not the same at all any more - kinda like the heart got torn out of it, but Barrio is still doing good things - the young chef there has a lot of talent and interesting creative combinations. Have not been but Cafe Vert is reported to be very good - although the good review in NOW caused some serious ripples - press is always a double edged sword - particularly for small places. I was looking at Baldini's menu on a recent trip back and it looked quite interesting - definitely worth checking out!

Well there you have another two cents - happy chowing!
