Heading to town on the Tuesday after Memorial Day...(Did Research)

I know you didn't mention burgers but if you're coming here on a Tuesday, you should consider Rosamunde on Haight's Tuesdays Only Cheeseburgers: http://mcduffwine.blogspot.com/2009/11/tuesdays-at-rosamunde.html And don't miss the beer at Toronado while you're there.

Where to buy a pound of coffee?

So they changed the plans to have coffee service at that location all together?

Where can I find lobster mac and cheese in SF?

Broken Record.

One night in Haight Ashbury - Magnolia Pub?

I would go to Alembic instead, too. They have a very good happy hour menu - if that's of any interest. (don't hesitate to order the bone marrow, it's delicious)

Mojoeater, have you considered airbnb.com?

Mother's Day Brunch?

:( indeed

Mother's Day Brunch?

The following take reservations.

1300 Fillmore does a very lovely gospel brunch.

Baker and Banker has a fabulous brunch with great coffee (Four Barrel) in their dining room.

Nopa also does a fabulous brunch with great coffee (Blue Bottle).

Bar Agricole has both in and outdoor seating, full bar, and Four Barrel espresso and drip coffees.

Boulette's Larder does a fine Sunday Brunch, too. (Blue Bottle coffee)

Quick and Good (preferably Asian) for post-airport pickup. SF, Daly City, Millbrae?

Toyose is open until 2am - great fried chicken and fun place.

bahn mi for party

The Doc Loi Kitchen has some pretty good bánh mì for $5 each. They have a vegi, tofu, mushroom one on the menu, too.

I ordered the BBQ Lemongrass Chicken and Mr. scarmoza had the Authentic Vietnamese. We both liked the BBQ Lemongrass Chicken best - very flavorful.

They were much larger than the ones we usually buy at Pacific Super (no vegetarian) . You might find a lot of people sharing or saving for later as we did.

Fried Chicken in San Francisco

I second Frisco Fried!

Such thing as a delicious brunch buffet in SF?

Yeah, a call in advance is best but that article states "the popular roof deck bar remains open, as Medjool, serving both food and drinks, with the downstairs dining room closed as of this week." From http://www.medjoolsf.com/ : The rooftop terrace will remain open as weather permitting. Weekend Brunch on the Rooftop Terrace Every Saturday & Sunday 10AM - 2PM

Where could I buy some authentic dashi without going to Japantown?

Kukje Market in Daly City.

Such thing as a delicious brunch buffet in SF?

The $12 weekend brunch buffet at Medjool is quite good if you don't mind a non-traditional buffet and are looking for a great breakfast bargain. It's sort of a mix between Mediterranean, Mexican, and American on the buffet tables. The $12 price includes juice and coffee. The $3 mimosa they serve is kind of a rip-off compared to the brunch and non-alcoholic beverage spread.
I personally liked the Mediterranean offerings best: lentil soup with dates, Mediterranean eggs, hummus and vegetables, yogurt and fruits...

The last time we went, there were no other customers at all - which we really appreciated but we understand that some might not. They also only serve on the roof-top now and only when weather permits.

Outside farm to table dinner in the wine country?

Help in San Jose

Will you have a car?

$1000 budget 1 week in SF

I think showing off San Francisco's specialty coffee culture would be a fun and affordable luxury to consider.

Ritual (does free tastings every Friday at 1pm at both the Valencia and Proxy locations)

Blue Bottle Mint Plaza - afternoon might be better for the size of your group. Siphon bar and single-origin espresso hours are from 8-1230, and 1-3 m-f. 9-1230-1-3 weekends

Four Barrel - single origin bar opens at 8am

ECCO Caffe at Borderlands - no wifi. Clean, well lit place, for great coffee and silent reading.

Ma'velous - lots of space and a beautiful place. Serves Stumptown and others. Variety of coffee prep choices.

I rarely ever get the chance to watch cable TV but I have seen Tony Gemignani of Tony's Pizza Napoletana on there more than a couple of times. Also, the fried dungeness crab at R&G Lounge was featured on No Reservations. It's great for groups if you have a reservation and isn't so expensive if you order correctly.

1300 Filmore's Gospel Brunch is really quite an affordable treat (considering the quality of food, ambiance, service, and entertainment). I'm not a fan of their coffee (Mr. Espresso) but I did like the shrimp and grits a whole lot. :) Reservation required.

Boniere Bakery - hot cross buns and malasadas from heaven [Oakland]

I had read that wiki entry a while ago and never really gave it credit since my friends from Porto Santo, Madeira don't call them malasadas. However, I did come across this very interesting publication that claims documentation from 1762 of "malassadas" being a part of religious festivals at the Convento da Encarnação in Funchal: http://en.calameo.com/read/000010492427b103182d8 It's turning out to be a fantastic scholarly read about the history and culture of sugar in the Atlantic islands of the Azores, Madeira, and Canaries

Suggestions for tea?

What do you think of Harney & Sons (Millerton, NY)? Someone brought me back a big sampler basket from a visit to their tearoom a couple of years ago. I loved them all.
I've heard good things about SkyTea's (Oakland) Masala Chai - have you tried it?

Boniere Bakery - hot cross buns and malasadas from heaven [Oakland]

Yeah, I know that filhós/filhozes/filhoses/malassadas are from Portugal but I thought Ruth L knew of the area they originated in Portugal.

They're called malassadas on the island of São Miguel, too. That's where a lot of Hawaiian Portuguese descend.

Californian-Portuguese who aren't coriscos mal amanhados call them filhós.
I'm pretty sure most of Brasil and Canadian-Portuguese call them filhós - so I don't know if it's safe to say that it's used in the 'new world'. Hawaii and parts of Mass - but not everywhere.

No one has even mentioned the traditional pumpkin and orange ones made for Christmas.

What are your favourite taco fillings?

al pastor
barbacoa (and believe it or not, I've had really good vegetarian barbacoa)
nopales and eggs
baja style fried fish

Hopefully, you're giving a lot of attention to the tortillas and condiments, too.

What area did malassadas originate?

Great Breakfast wanted near Mark Hopkins Intercontinental in Nob Hill

If you can go early, I would go to Farm:Table. It's super tiny but they have good coffee and food. It's a high quality, smaller portions kind of place (a touch expensive, too) However, if you don't mind paying a little more and having to deal with sharing the farm table seating - it's a few blocks away from you.

Ancient Recipes

I've had the good fortune of tasting garum a few times now at Locanda in San Francisco. It's not at all as concentrated as worcestershire sauce or as fishy/fermented tasting as many fish sauces from Asia. It's definitely along the lines of the two but maybe milder or softer on the nose and palate.

Fish & Chips

Hog & Rocks

south bay bbq?

How about Back A Yard in Palo Alto? I've only been there once but would return in a heartbeat.

Too bad there's no Central Coast/Santa Maria Style in the Bay Area.

Restaurrants to try in SF

La Lengua Chronicles - My Project for 2012

I've been to Palace Steak House and would never ever return for any thing. If I had an enemy, I'd send them there.

PFSH is a really sad joke of a restaurant but it's likely not worse the Coronitas (which is down right scary).

Ad Hoc or Redd???

I would do Bouchon for Breakfast. Redd for lunch. Ad Hoc for dinner.

Where does Cafe Seventy8 get their beans (which roaster)?

Burgers and coffee, that's elf food, apparently -- your thoughts solicited

ECCO might have their new San Francisco café and roastery open by mid-April.
