Looking for good eats near Pacific Beach, Washington. We like everything - from street food to nice sit down. Any suggestions for anyplace good? |

Pizza at Katie Downs? The one memorably bad meal I've had on Ruston was the pizza at Katie Downs. If you lean far enough out the door of Puget Sound Pizza, I think you can see some water - does that count? If Gig Harbor is too far of a drive, there's nothing wrong with most of the places on Ruston Way. Is the food great? Nope, but it's not bad. Many have early dinner specials that make them very reasonable. I've never had a memorably great meal at Anthonys, Lobster Shop, Dukes, Shenigans, Ram, or Harbor Lights but I've always had a good time. When people are visiting from out-of-town, that's where we usually go. I think the idea is to visit them in moderation. |

What is your favorite Cooking Magazine I like Cuisine At Home. Recipes all turn out and taste good. It reminds me of Cook's Illustrated without the analysis of how the writer came up with the recipe and it has color pictures. |

Tacoma - Anthony's at Pt. Defiance or Harbor Lights Harbor Lights is where I take my grandparents when they visit. I'd take my friends to Anthony's at Point Defiance (it might not be the first place I'd take them but it's dependable and I've always had a good time there). BTW, I took my parents to the Lobster Shop and they loved it. |

Vegetarian/Vegan food in Tacoma? Or else good funky local coffee shops? AND bad service with an attitude! |

Lobster Shop isn't bad and now there's Dukes. Shenangins is also good. |

Steffie's Caribbean Restaurant (Tacoma) I agree - it's got pretty good food and the prices are reasonable. Steffie's did Taste of Tacoma this year and we stopped but they were unorganized and kept people waiting for long times. Too bad. The food is good - if you can find a parking spot with all the Hooter's crowd. |

Wine Styles on Pearl has wine arranged by taste (bright, mellow, etc) which is kind of interesting. I like Tacoma Wine Merchants on N. Tacoma Ave. near Stadium HS. Metropolitan Market has an okay wine selection (on Procotor and n. 25th). And we have a Trader Joes too in Unversity Place! There are also lots of wine bars - Pour at Four on Proctor; Cafe Divino on N. 30th; Vin Grotto on Pacific; and there's one off of Bridgeport in the UP area. |
