Hard Hat Vol IX
I realize now Verts has a few joints downtown. I wonder what's leading all these local chains to the hinterlands...
Hard Hat Vol IX
Ate there today and tried out their new rice bowls. Not bad but seemed less chirashi and more like a deconstructed sushi roll...meaning they used the same amount of filling but with more rice.
I notched there's another restaurant going inbetween called Verts. It's described as Berlin-inspired kebaps. Sounds intriguing.
Hard Hat Vol IX
How Do You Roll is now open in the Plaza Volente shopping center at 620 and Anderson Mill. It's next to the Torchy's. They've apparently become quite the little franchise judging by their website.
Hard Hat Vol IX
I hope the Jollyville one stays. That Terra burger location is dreadful; the parking lot is too small and I doubt a model like Elevation's can pump out burgers fast enough to keep the drive-thru line off the feeder.
Austin Food & Wine Festival
Aren't the trailers like this? Every time I think I'm going to eat at one, there are bunches of people both lining up and waiting endlessly for food. Seems like we've gotten trained to wait...
Austin Food & Wine Festival
Yikes. They'll have to drastically improve it (and drastically reduce the price) if they want to sell any tickets next year. Nothing like angering the folks with deep pockets...
I went to Uchiko for my birthday dinner on Sat. and spent the day after hopping from winery to winery. Sounds like my $150 or so went way farther.
Best Thing YOU Ever Ate, Austin
Hama Chili at Uchiko. Fried Avocado taco at Torchy's. Hoover's chicken fried chicken with gravy and their jalapeno creamed spinach. The green beans at Asia Cafe. The roast pork hot pot at First Chinese BBQ.
Fish Skin Fish Dumplings at Ivy's Deli; Xiao Long Bao (XLB) Too
Unless they were just closed for some serious cleaning, I would guess that they changed their minds on having two restaurants and just moved operations to Round Rock:

The new one already has Yelp "reviews". It's apparently been open for two weeks.

Googled and came up with Ivy's Deli. It's a second restaurant opened up by the folks on Spicewood Springs:

Trader Joe's Coming - Seaholm
I'm hoping that this is just the first store announced in Austin. They're opening multiples in Dallas and Houston, so what's stopping them from opening up a few here? I think the Arboretum would be a good spot (perhaps in Whole Food's current location after they move) and the new Trails at 620 shopping center would grab the upper middle class suburban crowd from Steiner Ranch, Avery Ranch, and 4 Points.
HEB Fresh Bulk Salsas
I stopped by after work at the Parmer/McNeil HEB and sure enough they had some in tubs on the shelving next to the chopped fruit bar.
HEB Fresh Bulk Salsas
Hmm, I'll have to check the HEB Plus near me and see if they've added this.
Live Crawfish finds and price check for 2012
The Volente HEB Plus (Anderson Mill & 620) is advertising live crawfish this weekend. I'm hoping they'll have a crawfish boil going out front like they've done for crabs in the past.
Hard Hat Vol IX
They gave November 2012 as the ETA for the HEB going in that center. Hopefully the Drafthouse will be built and therefore opening at the same time.
Hard Hat Vol IX
Alamo Drafthouse is opening up a location at Pecan Park and Lakeline Blvd in NW Austin/Cedar Park. It appears to be part of the main chain and not a franchise. They'll be including a bar with a lot of taps. Hopefully it will also include better food... ;)
Rumor is that the Lake Creek location is remaining open.
Looking for a "Meat and Three" around the Austin area.
Hoover's NW offered a meat and three special. They're no longer open, but the original on Manor might offer it as well. Can anyone confirm? Otherwise, their regular menu is essentially meat and two sides, but they're huge portions.
"Stuffed" ----Cajun Meat Market
They've got Community Iced Tea now. And they certainly weren't lying about the new items; the store finally has a stocked feeling to it with shelves just full of things. Even the freezers looked a lot fuller than usual. Only the fridge section seemed kinda empty, with no potato salad on the shelves.
I just got a roast beef po'boy from there and it was delish. The roast beef was super tender and just dripping with gravy goodness. I'm no expert on them, so I can't speak to authenticity but I would certainly order it again.
New Pollos al Carbon place in NW Austin
Driving by, it looks like it's called El Establo but there's several signs all over the place.
New Pollos al Carbon place in NW Austin
Z Pizza is still open. They most likely split the taqueria in half as one side of it was really designed for a To-Go operation (counters towards the front, a few tables against the windows...) and the other was normal restaurant space.
Hard Hat Report Vol 8
Another How Do You Roll is opening up next to Torchy's in the Volente Plaza at 620 and Anderson Mill.
Nice to see so many Austin chains and locally owned businesses coming up our way.
With the Trails of 620 already under construction, I'm expecting to see a few more pop up in the upcoming months. Noble Pig had the Food Network filming them last weekend (presumably for Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives).
Austin Food & Wine Festival
As much as I'd love to spend my birthday eating awesome food and watching demos from some famous folks, I'd rather save my money and just blow half of that enjoying a tasting menu at a fancy restaurant. $250 seems crazy high, but might be worth it if you go all three days.
RIP part 4
I'm going to miss it too. It was close to home and also close to work. The Manor location is good, but it's such a long trek from the Lakeline area.
Are there even any alternative Southern home cookin' type restaurants nearby in NW Austin or Cedar Park? Sometimes a girl just needs a big plate of CFC, mashed potatoes, and greens.
CR Surf and Turf -Cedar park
I went here on NYE myself and the place was packed.
I too had the oysters (crazy large and crazy cheap) and agree with you that they were really fresh tasting. I dressed mine up with liberal amounts of horseradish and cocktail sauce.
I had the flat iron. It was cooked perfectly and delicious. For the sides, I had the asparagus (good) and the mashed potatoes (surprisingly bland); the cream gravy on the mashed potatoes tasted freshly made, but lacking in salt.
My sister ordered the stuffed catfish and complained that it was overcooked and way too dry.
I plan on going back to try the fried seafood as lots of surrounding patrons were ordering that and it looked tasty from afar. The prices here are really reasonable. No website but here's a pretty recent menu: http://www.diningoutwithrobbalon.com/2010/12/20/cr-surf-turf-menu/
RIP part 4
Oh man, that sucks. They never seemed to be hurting for business every time I went there.
Eating At The Noble Pig In Austin
Sweet! I am fully in support of them expanding without moving. Having charcuterie and fresh loafs of bread readily available for sale half a mile from my house is going to be seriously dangerous...my freezer is already stocked full of meats from Stuffed.
Seafood stews
I believe I had this dish at Shilla once and loved it. I think they pulled it off the menu though. Putting Korea Grill on my list. :)
Seafood stews
Are there any particular Mexican restaurants that you recommend for seafood dishes?
Seafood stews
As the Fall weather slowly rolls in, I begin to crave hearty stews. This year I'm into seafood stews and soups particularly. What are your recommendations for finding a tasty cioppino, bourride, bouillabaisse, chowder, etc. in the Austin metro ?
Please review/critique my plan and logistics
Regarding the Triangle Market, I've honestly never been to that particular one and do not know what kind of hot food vendors they've got. However, this link gives you a good idea of who is out there on Wednesday: http://sfcfarmersmarket.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=66&lang=en .
After you've sampled your way through there, the Flying Saucer in the Triangle has a great variety of beers on tap.
Simple, delicious Japanese food has landed in NW Austin
I guess ramen is a hard sell when people are used to seeing the dried variety for 10-15 cents a package.
I'll have to go check this place out for the udon and soba options.
