Why do people find it so strange to take photos of your food?

Yeah, I'm a food porn addict. Ahi tuna, nicely plated.

Chiang Mai 293 Van Brunt St. Red Hook Just steps away

Tonight I ate there for the 2nd time. The first time we ordered some of the grilled items, served with dipping sauces and the kang hung leh. All were perfectly satisfactory, but did not possess the robust flavors I associate with northern Thai. I attribute that to our choices, rather than any shortcomings by the kitchen. Tonight I stopped by kind of late for a light late supper. I had the Tum Kanoon & the Jin Som Mok. Both were flavorful and left me with a desire to return. I arrived at 10 PM, Saturday night and the place was pretty empty. I didn't check the garden to see if there were more diners there. I hope Kanlaya gets the support needed to continue beyond the short term lease she has on this space. FWIW, KS was not full, but had more patrons when I checked it out after CM.

Why do people find it so strange to take photos of your food?

I had this soup at Lincoln Ristorante in NYC, yesterday. So pretty, no?

Best Thai....Please tell me the very best....

So the palm sugar that I buy in the Bangkok Center Grocery, which they import from Thailand and is specified in countless Thai recipes offered by native Thai cooks, is not authentic? Could've fooled me.

Thai food is a balance of spicy (chiles), salty (fish sauce) sour (lime juice, tamarind) and sweet (palm sugar). When the balance is right, you don't notice the presence of palm sugar.

Why everyone should stop calling immigrant food ‘ethnic’

I'm not buying it. Why is "immigrant food" more acceptable than "ethnic food"?

What is your weirdest kitchen experience?

As Jerry Seinfeld once noted, I'll never understand how women can pour hot wax on their legs, rip the hair out from the root and still be afraid of a spider.

How many lobster tails are usually needed for a lobster roll?

America's Test Kitchen claims that the most humane way to kill a lobster is to put a live one in the freezer for 30 minutes, then plunge it into boiling water.

I was under the impression that lobster tails are frozen then sold either as frozen or thawed.

America’s Most Obese States Tend to Have One Thing in Common

This is probably the first generation in human history where poor people are fatter than rich people.

Haven't returned to a former favorite restaurant because of bill issue.

The restaurant has no obligation to comp a 2nd round of food, but the customer has no obligation to go back. From a business point of view, this customer would have a much more positive attitude towards returning had they made some accommodation for the accidental mishap.

This authentic Malaysian restaurant (they do sushi too) should fit into your budget and is probably more exotic than food you can get back home. I've been there with a similar sized group and they were very helpful in picking out suitable menu items. They do take reservations on Open Table.

$15 hr min. wage x zero hours =?

With more people, not just food workers, earning a living wage, maybe more of them could afford to eat out. That would require more workers and and give an incentive to restaurant owners to provide the type of service that would lure more customers.
