2 Burn-Your-Face-Off Spicy Dinners?

The Grapefruit Habanero Margaritas at Barrio Chino is a wow. Sugar-in -the-raw on the rim, in place of salt, tames the habanero just a bit.

Stupid easy recipes you really love

1. Mix equal parts sambal & apricot jam. I put in on everything, from salmon steaks to English muffins.

2. Chunks of ripe papaya, olive oil, lime juice. pinch of salt and chopped cilantro. optional: thinly sliced red onion, small dice of red/yellow peppers.

Healthy alternatives to honey for use in granola bars.

I haven't tried it, but someone recommended a sweetener of 1 cup of dates soaked in 1/2 cup of water overnight and then blended to a paste.

Red Lobster and their policy

Oh, terrible breach of confidentiality. If she said she felt threatened and blew the guy's brains out, she'd be in compliance with the law. Stand your ground woman, stand your ground.

Pok Pok Phat Thai – A Thai Noodle Specialist, But It’s All About The Crepe

I had the kuaytiaw khua thaleh, stir fried wide rice noodles w/ seafood. The flavors & textures made for an outstanding dish. Can't wait to try the other offerings. I had the crepe at their Brooklyn restaurant, also terrific. I haven't been to Thailand, but this Andy Ricker guy turns out some serious Isan cuisine.

What's a good restaurant where we can eat at the bar?

If you drink wine, Gottino's on Greenwich Ave has a nice "Milano, Italy" feel to it. Good small plates, nice atmosphere.

What to have at Momofuku Ssam?

I believe you must order the duck in advance. We were a party of 6 last week. They brought out the whole duck, in all its golden brown glory, and then carved it and brought it back out with greens, pancakes a bed of rice and 4 sauces.

We had a few sides with it and it was plenty of food. The duck was cooked perfectly. I'm salivating just thinking of it.

Falansai (Vietnamese in Bushwick)

I took a date there tonight and had a very good dinner, despite some glitches. We arrived after nine and apparently the word is out. They told us they were busy all day and so had run out of some dishes. The staff apologized profusely and made every effort to please us. Though I was disappointed that the shrimp/okra dish was out, everything we had - vegetable spring roll, deliciously crispy; 5 spice chicken and lamb curry - was quite tasty.
There was no A/C, but with a fan blowing, we were reasonably comfortable. There was activity around the subway stop and by the restaurant. The streets in between had few people, slightly unnerving to my date, who, as a Manhattanite, is used to seeing people everywhere. But safety was not an issue. Though it's a bit of a trek, I look forward to going back. I'll just have to call ahead to reserve the shrimp/okra dish.

Falansai (Vietnamese in Bushwick)

Judging by the "street view" on Google maps, it looks like Falansai is in an industrial area. Is the area deserted at night? I was looking to plan an evening for a group dinner. Might I be better off doing it during daylight hours?

My favorite is simply chicken, mayo, tarragon, s&p. When I do curried, I add diced apple & raisins.
