Mozza or Pizza Bianco(Phoenix)???

Not much I can add to this thread that hasnt been said so wonderfully. I would like to say that if you get to PB at about 330 in the afternoon youll get a first seating at 5. The Bianco wine bar next door opens at 4 so that helps with the wait. I think Id rather go early and get the waiting done upfront without having to deal with a hungry waiting crowd.

Mozza on the other hand takes a reservation which eliminates some of the waiting. However I have never gotten a reservation any earlier then 10pm! Maybe because I call from out of state, a month in advance?

In the end I prefer PB based on pizza alone. If I had to compare the 2 based on food choices PM suits me better with their vast array of starters and sides Im in hog heaven.

Agreed.. the choices in the Phoenix area are poor.. I just got back from Gardena, Ca for work and they had so many places to chose from. Ended up at at Lee's Soon Tofu.. now where can I get some spicy tofu soup here?

Best Bread Basket in Las Vegas

Craftsteak switched to house made Parker House Rolls from the usual artisan bread.. let me tell you what.. this is great simple bread done really well. Hot, butter with a sprinkle of seas salt on the top.. an appetizer in itself!

I echo Debbie W.. the bread at Nobhill was pretty bad. For me it was like eating a sponge.. I truly enjoy bread before a meal and this was a let down to a let down (the meal wasn't good either, fussy, fussy).

Foods you love at Trader Joe's that got discontinued? [OLD]

I to mourn the loss of these delicious treats! I would get those with garlic nann and tzatziki! Oh the horror when I was told they weren't going to carry those any longer. It did force me to cook my own ahead of time and throw in the freezer. Sniff, sniff.. still not the same.

PHX: Thai Hut grand opening 9/06

This place is awesome! Ive been to many places around town and have this one to be more original than the others in terms of the flavors. Their Pad Thai is creamy in its texture.. a real treat! Also tried the yellow curry, drunken noodles, spring rolls, tempura shrimp and this chicken salad.. everything was so fresh and delicious! I will definitely be back sometime soon! Oh, my friend said the place was a Guggies a long time ago, apparently the light fixtures are from that age and are so old they are cool again. Great service to boot! Oh, try the coconut ice cream!! Delish!

Enoteca San Marco - beyond the online menu?

Hi Debbie! We're off to Vegas tomorrow morning and have a reservation at Enoteca San Marco for Saturday night (after Spamalot).. if you could share the 'beyond the online menu' with me that would be GREAT! Im excited to eat at Enoteca since I'm a huge fan of Mario Batali's. We ate at B&B a few months ago and LOVED it. I'm not sure how you could love one place more then another but Mozza in LA, unbelievable!

Anhoo, hope yo hear from you soon! Here is my email for the menu.. foodiebear at gmail dotcom

I agree about Big Fat Greek or Big Fat Ill never go back! LOL! Lousy service and so-so food.. Pita House is alright.. my favorite is Aladdin's Kitchen over on Via Linda. HATED Olive and Ivy, sexy space, lousy food and service, very over priced like all Fox concepts.

Fave Tortas in PHX?

Oh yeah.. my vote goes for Tortas La Presa.. here's a blog I wrote on YELP..

"Usted es el bocadillo ms hermoso! .".. roughly translated.. you are the most beautiful sandwich!

While this place is in a transitional neighborhood don't let the homeless fool you.. its really tasty! The service is very friendly and it's so cheap you can have a great taco lunch for under 5 bucks!

Let's get to the nitty gritty.. first torta I had from here the "La Presa" couldn't be finished.. not even by my portliness! Its 2 thick pieces of telera topped with ham, cheese, pork sirloin, breaded beef, sausage, chorizo and egg. This torta's HUGE, seriously! Most come with potato chips though ask for the salad instead. Its a serving of shredded lettuce, cabbage, sliced radishes, half a caramelized onion and a roasted jalapeo. IMHO, makes for a balance but really, you can't balance this out but the thought is there!

Alambre de Res burro, tacos and quesadillas have claimed major rock star status with me! Tender chopped beef, bell peppers, onions and melted cheese.. I think they use a little bacon fat too 'cause these bad boi's are bursting with flavor! Ah, gawd!

The fresh juice they make here can also pass for a wonderful lunch substitute. I like the granola, strawberry and pineapple licuado! A meal in itself!

They take your plastic card too! Just go for it!

Simply Bread vs. Tammie Coe - rivalry brewing? (PHX)

"SB is about as artisan as Wonder".. this of course is an exaggeration.

However the bread here has a VERY commercial crumb, crust and taste.. very, very ordinary and an extreme let down considering all of the hype surrounding their entrance into the valley. Ill stick with other valley artisans.

Steel Reign BBQ (PHX) - any reports?

Hi there!

Oh yeah.. Ive been here a couple of times.. this place is pretty good with very good portion sizes. I prefer my meat having a stronger smoky flavor though there's is very tender. Had the pulled pork sammie with sweet potato fries.. the service is quick and very friendly.

Ah yes, the peach cobbler he makes there was outta sight!

They also accept visa so that was a HUGE plus as I don't carry cash!

There are a bunch of little eateries around this area.. Torta's La Presa being one of my favs! Oh I gotta a list! LOL!

Hope this helps!

Simply Bread vs. Tammie Coe - rivalry brewing? (PHX)

That might be the case.. though I doubt it as the bread at LGO is stocked daily (bakery is several doors down) you know that if you call and order from TC you can get it fresh that day. However from an artisan standpoint SB is about as artisan as Wonder.

B + B Ristorante - Molto Las Vegas

B&B was completely awesome! We ate here this past Wednesday and were still talking about it. We had an 8 o'clock reservation and the place was packed when we arrived. So we sat at the bar and started talking with the bartender Adam.. he made us some pretty special cocktails called Mother Teresa.. wow! After about 20 minutes we still weren't sat so Adam invited us to eat with him at the bar, a great idea! The bar reminded us of home (same granite) so we decided to stay and let Adam to the driving. We each did the pasta tasting with pairings.. just over the top delicious! Everything we had was just magnificent! Love letters, Lune, Parpadelle, Ravioli and dessert. We literally woddled out of there were so so full!

The service was top notch tho of course we didn't sit in the dining room. Next time eat at the bar and ask for Adam.. he will take very good care of you! We spent about 300 bucks for dinner though with the quality, service and so many courses we felt this was a very good value!

B + B Ristorante - Molto Las Vegas

Great reviews and comments! We will be in Vegas 2 weeks from today and are quite excited about checking this place out. We went to Mozza a few weeks ago in LA and are still high from the wonderful food we experienced there!

The only way to get a reservation at this time is by calling the restaurant?

M.J. hands down makes some of the best bread Ive had the pleasure of trying. Simply Bread is not all that.. they have one of the most mediocre ciabatta.. for me if a baker cant nail a ciabatta then what's the point? Their Monkey Bread was horrendously dry. I know of a valley resort that has dropped Simply Bread after only a few months.. many complaints were received as to what happened to the bread service! All of the accolades surrounding the baker over there certainly do not equal great bread.. a real disapointment!
There's a bakery on Cactus and Tatum called Breadcrafters, now there is a good ciabatta!

Conference in Scottsdale: Cowboy Ciao?

There are a few places in Old Town that are pretty good though I think coming from SF youre going to expect something more.. at the Scottsdale Princess there is a place called La Hacienda.. just amazing food.. while more on the pricey side its a very good experience and very good for large parties.. the service is also amazing and the noise levels low.. Cowboy is VERY loud inside..

Quiessence(PHX)?

We were there last Friday night for my birthday dinner. While the place is cozy and very romantic both found the food to be very over seasoned and the service much to slow. There was a HUGE wedding party or something going on on the back patio so that may explain why the dishes were coming out so slowly. I know the chef is part of the slow foods movement but come on! LOL! Probably wouldn't return, we had one bottle of wine and 3 course each, bill was $230 before tip.

PV, Mazatlan and Cabo chow ideas..

Found some great stuff in all the ports.. Cabo was very good though took some leg work to get away from all the typical USA corporate traps on the main drag.. Mi Casa was where we ended up and it was fantastic!
