Why do no national burger chains have veggie burgers?
Burger King does have Morningstar Farms veggie burgers here in CT, but if you really want to see a confused server, order a Whopper, hold the beef
Road Trip up East Coast
New Haven has a number of places. Pepe's for white clam pizza, Louis Lunch is the self proclaimed inventor of the hamburger they do make a very good burger (no condiments allowed) A wide variety of ethnic choices too
Fried belly clams.
Many have mentioned Clam castle I will try them next time I am in the area
Fried belly clams.
I agree with Clams Glenwood had great ones, Westville Seafood has been good as well they are on Litchfeild Turnpike just off Whalley Ave in New Haven. Further north Lenny and Joe's in Madison
What Foods Do You Forego in the Name o' Domestic Tranquility?
My SO is a vegetarian, and has no problem with my consuming most meats at home, with the exception of: lamb, and lobster. It does not bother her if we are out though.
Breakfast in New Haven
If you're near Westville, try the corned beef hash and egg at Lena's! Bella's across the street also makes good breakfast sandwiches.
Cooking Classes in New Haven Area
I have never taken any of the classes, but check out The Fig School. They have had booths at the farmers markets
Define "Grinder"
A rose by any other name.....
I prefer "sub" but will eat grinders, hoagies, even a wedge, but I never understood the latter.
New Haven Thursday Lunch
If you can get to Westville, you can consider Bella's or Lena's, if you want drinks there is also Delaney's
best corned beef to buy?
I made a Nathan's corned beef yesterday. The spice packet seemed small, so I added some whole coriander, mustard seed and black peppercorns. I was terrific.
Suggestions for best Chinese food in Southern New England?
If you are ever in the New Haven area there are a few places with a separate Chinese menu:
Royal Palace on Orange St , Loa Sze Schuan on the Post Rd in Milford, Peking Duck House also on the Post Rd in Orange, and Iron Chef in West Haven (mainly takeout but there are 2 tables)
best corned beef to buy?
It probably does not have sodium nitrate, which is a good thing
Potato Chip Afficionado
I have purchased the papadum chips at Stop & shop in New Haven, but they don't always have them.
New Haven area source for wood chips for smoking food
I have purchased them at Home Depot in Hamden, and at Chef's Emporium in Wallingford but they were pricy there
Stamford recs please
Thanks! I have been to
Columbus Park but it slipped my mind. I am thinking Eos...grilled octopus!
Stamford recs please
Sorry, I guess that would help. I have had my fill of Asian of late, a little twist that my SO is a vegetarian. But otherwise open
Stamford recs please
We have tickets to Curtain Call Theater this Friday night. I know there are lots of good places for dinner, but would like to hear of any particularly good experiences. Thanks in advance
Fairway in Stamford
We are going to a dinner show at Curtain Call in Stamford. Does anyone have any experience with hot/cold food bar at Fairway? Thanks in advance!
Indian food - Southern Connecticut Shoreline.....
New Haven abounds with Indian restaurants. There is a Coromandel in Orange on the Post Rd, and Thali on Orange St in New Haven They also have Thali too a vegetarian only spot on Broadway . Also in New Haven: Zaroka on York, this used to be my go to place but has slipped slightly of late, India Palace on Howe is good. I believe all have buffets. One whose name escapes me on the corner of Chapel and Howe
I recently went to Cumin on Skiff in Hamden for thier buffet small but solid selection.
One that I would avoid is Kamal on Howe, my one experience did not justify a return
Thia Stories on Selden St Woodbridge, CT
My one experience was for a takeout order, I ordered Duck Hot Basil, and Massaman Curry with Tofu and vegetables. I asked that the curry be made mild, However they made the Duck Hot basil mild, I chalk this up to a language issue with the order taker as she was clearly struggling with her English. They included soup (I do not recall which one) that was very good. Worth a second trip. That location has been several restaurants, I wish them luck since it is hard to spot if you're not looking
Lunch in/near Orange, CT
Lao Sze Chaun and Peking Duck are both excellent , Wild Ginger is now Samurai and I have not been there since the change. Gabriella's (SP?) is good for Italian.
Subpar [Kamal, New Haven, CT]
Sorry I am sure I put it in there! Kamal on Howe Street
Subpar [Kamal, New Haven, CT]
We were headed home from a quick trip to the Boston area and thought we would try this fairly new (about 1 yr) old place on Howe St in New Haven. Phoned in a takeout order of Veggie Pakora, Malai Kofta, Lamb Vindaloo, and Dal Makkanikiki (sp?) Bill came to $53.50
Pakora was way overcooked
The dal was more like a very thin lentil soup, but had an acceptable flavor.
Dumplings in the Malai Kofta were mealy.
Lamb Vindaloo lacked the spice and vinegar level that make it Vindaloo.
The mint Chutney was the thin and bland as was the onion chutney
Portions were a bit on the small side.
All in all not worth the second try
Asian produce in New Haven or Norwich area?
As I recall it does, but I have not been there in a while. I usually go to JMart
Asian produce in New Haven or Norwich area?
There is JMart on Orange St. near the old Colosseum site, also one one Whitney Ave near Trumbull St I think it's the Hong Kong Market. For Indian there is a market next to Goodwill on the Post Road in West Haven
Fresh Ricotta along CT shoreline - east of New Haven or Middletown corridor
Liuzzi's on State St. North Haven has it
CAFE D'AZUR - DARIEN, CT.
I agree with you on Mamouns, it is filthy! If you are in the New Haven area and want Middle Eastern try Cedars It is in a small strip mall on the Post Rd in West Haven, between Target and UNH. Good swarma (sp?) Kofta and felafel.
I have never been to Cafe d"azur
Burger along Merritt/Rt 15 or I-91 between Norwalk-Hartford?
OK I will start by saying it is not directly on the specified route but is close to the 95/91 merge.
Louis Lunch the self proclaimed inventor of the burger sandwich it is a very good burger that should be tried if for no other reason than to say you have been there.
Louis lunch
