Best Italian in Indy?

Well, I'm back, and still in the process of writing up my trip reports. Long story short:

R Bistro was totally the cute little neighborhood bistro I wish was down the street from my house.

14 West was big, butch, awesome, and spectacularly more expensive than I'd anticipated. Of course, all the big bottles of wine probably didn't help much in that regard.

On our last night, we ended up at Bucca di Beppo, right across the street from my hotel. It was good, not great, but the atmosphere was just right, and so was the price.

More later, and again, thank you all so much for the suggestions!

Thanks for the reply!

We're actually having dinner at R Bistro on Friday, and 14 West on Saturday. Elements has been in the running, but my husband thought the menu looked a little 'foofy'.

(read: too much seafood!)

Who know, we may still end up there!

Best Italian in Indy?

I've read so many things at this point, but could've sworn I'd tucked Agio into the "eh" list.

As I'm just over a week out, a decision needs to happen pretty quickly, and it sounds like it won't be Italian!

Best Italian in Indy?

Ah, you must talking about Villa Pizza? I'd written down Bazbeaux after reading so many gushing testimonitals, but I too like a really thin-crust pizza. Thanks- and Yats is also on my list!

Best Italian in Indy?

Oh, and I meant to add that I'll be staying downtown, and would prefer not to travel too far, or else would probably choose Amalfi.

Best Italian in Indy?

I'll be in Indy next month to check out the MotoGP race, and am looking for upscale Italian. After surfing for a couple of hours on Google, I don't feel any closer to this goal.

Any recommendations?

Disney/Old Key West Village/Couples Romantical Dining

Thanks for the tips everyone! I'm going to check out the deets and make my reservation.

Disney/Old Key West Village/Couples Romantical Dining

My husband and I are going to Disney with the *entire* family in late January. Most of our dinners will be fun/character/whatever, but one night: my husband and I get a romantical dinner all to ourselves.

We'd like someplace nice, and while we'll be dining at the California Grill with the family, we'd like something tasty, intimate and perfect just for two. We're staying in Old Key West Village on Disney property, and aren't looking to go driving around Orlando.

Any suggestions, good folks?

(The ironic part of this question is that I lived in Orlando for 7 years, and never once went to Disney.)

Thanks, folks!

Hampton Roads, VA: Where should we eat next?

Create Bistro is in the Hilton area of NN. Fun, creative food in an EXTREMELY small setting. Reservations are a must- don't go if sitting right next to your neighbor is distracting.

Hayashi in City Center has pretty good sushi, while Thaijindesu in Port Warwick has killer Thai.

In Hampton, go to Six Little Bar Bistro in Phoebus for tapas in a hip atmosphere.

So what do you cook in fall when the weather is still HOT?

I seem to fall into a lot of pasta dishes as well, especially ravioli/tortellini/etc, in light sauces.

BLT salads (with a vinegar dressing) also show up a lot.

That's really crap-tacular service, and very frustrating!

jaydreb, it was very fine and very flavorful. Not scary-tortured-smithfield kinda stuff. ;)

ktmoomau, I truly hope your brother makes that mis-step up to you very quickly!

debit, truly my pleasure! Thanks for the (very true) words about my husband- he's the best person I know.

Pie a la Mona: The jacket is Lily Pulitzer. It belonged to his grandfather when he was a very young man.

Thanks, Jeserf.

chowser, I was really happy to post about Torino. I'd never been in that direction before, and couldn't find any information on the particular route I'd be traveling. Or, more accurately, at where we could stop for lunch along the way.
This was the sort of place that's heaven to pull into, after miles driving of plowing past fast-food studded by-ways.

Recent trip: Inn at Little Washington

My husband recently took me on a surprise birthday trip for a night at the Inn at Little Washington. It was, in a word, breathtaking.

Yes, we spent a lot of money, but the experience was pretty amazing. I know that there have been some conflicting reports on here about the quality of food, but I found everything to be quite wonderful.

Many of the dishes came out looking not at all like they sounded on the menu. One taste easily identified it, and all the flavours were bright and vivid.

I'm not sure the policy on linking here, but I took photos of the meal here: http://weblogs.dailypress.com/entertainment/dining/skat/blog/.

While we probably won't go back (unless we win the lottery), I'm so glad we just up and did it. Truly, it was an unforgettable experience.

If you ever went to Cowboy Syd's, you can expect much the same at Stove, just in a funner, funkier atmosphere: scroll about halfway down this post to see some photos: http://weblogs.dailypress.com/entertainment/dining/skat/blog/2007/03/a_tale_of_two_stoves.html

I'm sorry to hear of so many bad Boot experiences! I really enjoyed my one meal there.

Vegetarian Fare in Norfolk, VB, Portsmouth?

I've always liked the Ten Top for a very respectable lunch. They do dinner, too.

Hampton Roads, Virginia

My husband and I had dinner there last night, and it was truly wonderful! Tender calamari in a perfectly crisp crust... fresh salad greens with local goat cheese.. handmade squid ink tagliatelle that was light and coated in a citrus-flecked sauce.. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there!
