Shiso plant for sale?

By Galleria, do you mean the shopping center @ Dufferin/Dupont?

Shiso plant for sale?

It is herb season and I was looking to grow my own Shiso. I was wondering if anyone has seen it at any of the various places that sell herbs in the GTA. I have seen the seeds but I am looking for a sprouted plant....

Thanks

ISO Malted Barley

I ran into the exact same problem and ended up ordering it online from the states... It was not that expensive and I don't use much of it.

Heading to St. Lawrence Market for the first time...what should I look out for?

I would suggest before 9AM.. If i want to shop in peace I get there around 7:00AM...

anniversary dinner that must include oysters (everything else negotiable)

Malena, the new restaurant getting lots of good reviews, typically has two types of oysters available as an appetizer. It sounds like they rotate the species of oyster offered based on what is available.

Maléna

the fish i had was naked except for some salt, pepper, and olive oil.

Blue Steel, I use it more than my cast iron for non-searing applications.

Toronto: grocery stores open this Friday?

Fresh & Wild @ Spadina and King is open until 5 or 6 PM.

Coffee Hounds advice please? Need recommendations for a home coffee grinder in Toronto.

Hey,

I have a ceramic hand grinder from Darkhorse (Japanese made, ~20 dollars). I can grind 2-3 cups of coffee in a couple of minutes.

I realize this may not be your thing, but it is the cheapest solution to getting a quality burr grind.

Best foodie 'hoods?

I got in this conversation with some friends and thought chowhound might settle it. What do you think are the best neighborhoods to live in if you are a foody?

Obvious choices may be Lower Javris (St. Lawrence Market) or Kensington Market. My friend was arguing for Richmond Hill due to the quality of Asian eats, To me, the ideal place needs a good balance of good restaurants and food stores.

Diastatic Malt Powder

I want to make a mash bread recipe and I need some Diastatic Malt Powder. Anyone seen it Toronto?

Blue Steel Pan Issue

I was wiping it down w/ lard after every use and putting it in the oven to dry (something like I used to do for my cast iron). I think this was definitely the wrong approach.

Blue Steel Pan Issue

Hey,

I have a blue steel pan (which I love) but have run into a little problem. Somehow the built up seasoning has started to flake away and the flakes continue to grow.

Does anyone know what causes this? How can I try to fix it? The flaked areas are not taking a new layer of seasoning very easily.

Black Hoof Cafe - Review with Pics

I was planning on sneaking here for lunch during the day on Thurs or Fri. Anyone know how busy the cafe is on weekdays?

ISO Heirloom Dried Beans or Rancho Gordo Beans in Toronto

FDO looks cool but is there any way of getting beans from them w/o a monthly subscription?!

Cheese CSA?

It is a truly amazing program but my problem with it is that the cheese is only available in Toronto. For many, it is hard to be certain that one won't be moving in that time frame.

Bread flour

Do you happen to know if Simply Bulk careers pH paper? I have been looking all over for this for the fine-tuning of fermentation time with no luck.

Cheesemongers in TO . . . any hidden gems?

Hey,

I am a cheese addict and my two fave spots are About Cheese on Church St. (you can see their selection on aboutcheese.ca ). IMHO they have the best selection of Canadian Artisanal Cheese in Toronto.

My other go to spot is Nancy's Cheese at Dupont & Spadina (nancyscheese.ca). The shop has a smaller selection but Nancy is super nice and only carries products that she is passionate about. I enjoy supporting smaller shops, like hers, in which customer service is number one.

Sausage and Butchering Classes, Reviews?

Around TO a number of different places have started classes on the art of sausage making and the likes; Examples include Cowbell and The Healthy Butcher. I was thinking about attending one of these classes but I am not sure which one to choose.

Has anyone been to one of these classes and feels up to offering a review? Was it worth the cash?

Cheers

Anchovies

Related to Anchovies, anyone know of a retailer of the smoked (Spanish?) variety in the downtown core? I checked the usual suspects at SLM to no avail.....

Le Cendrillon, World's Best Cheese?

I actually think that Monforte Dairy produces a better ash goat cheese. It is super addictive..
