Singapore: Good wine shop

Hi!

I'm looking for a good wine shop in Singapore. The most important criteria is friendly, knowledgable, enthusiastic staff. Bonus if they have a good range of wine (not only French). Double bonus if they are somehow located in Central Singapore (Orchard, Bukit Timah & surroundings).

I used to get my wines from Le Benaton but they've since closed up shop.

Thanks.

Dine L.A,

For Dine LA, I've tried Jiraffe, Spago, Gordon Ramsay, Fig, and Anisette Brasserie. While I really enjoyed Spago and Jiraffe, my favorites are Gordon Ramsay and Fig Restaurant in terms of food and service. However, if you're thinking in terms of price, Spago's probably a good choice for Dine LA. It's definitely a chance to dine there without having to sell a kidney first. =)

Memorable 21st Birthday Party!!! The Abbey & Murder-Mystery theme is being considered. Suggestions please?

Hi!

I'm looking to arrange for a 21st birthday party on Sat, 17 October. I'd like it to be a unique experience and am considering a few options. One of the venues I'm considering is The Abbey but I have a couple of friends who are under 21 and I'm wondering if they'll be able to get it.

Other ideas that I have is hosting a murder-mystery party like Keith & Margo (http://www.murdermystery.com/asp-bin/mm/MM.asp), The Dinner Detective (http://www.thedinnerdetective.com/) or Sharpo (http://www.sharpo.com/). Have anyone tried any of these dinner theatres before?

I briefly considered The Magic Castle but it quickly got scrapped when I realized that I didn't know anyone who was a member and I heard the food's not worth the price.

Do anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking for places with decent food that can accommodate a large group (~25 ppl) with a full bar and entertainment. I'm also hoping to be spending $40/guest (tax and beverage not included) but I realize that this may not be possible.

I also might be getting a cake from RoseBud (http://www.rosebudcakes.com/index.html). Anyone have suggestions on a cheaper place to get custom cakes?

Anyway, if all else fails, I might just organize a BBQ. Thanks in advance for all the help guys. I really appreciate any information that you can give.

ETA: I live on West LA near the intersection of 405 and 10. I'm hoping to find a place within a 30 miles radius, if possible.

Graduation dinner for 17? 30 miles radius West LA. ~$40/person

Thank you good people! =) I read all your suggestions and did my research (went to see the menu, prices, yelp reviews). I'm going to go with ElissainPlaya's suggestion of Chaya. We might go over the budget a little but it should be fine since only a few items in the menu crosses the $30 mark.

Will let you know how it goes. Thank you for all the suggestions! Much appreciated.

I've been to Hop Li and I can't say that the food was spectacular though I agree that it's good for groups (went there once for a friend's graduation).

The group isn't very fond of burgers but thanks for the suggestion. I'll probably check it out with a different group some other time.

It is UCLA graduation. That's why I was thinking Hollywood for some of the initial potential places. Just scratched Lucques out of the list and adding Il Moro.

I'm not including beverages/alcohol since the group doesn't usually drink. With tax/tip I'm expecting $50/person

Graduation dinner for 17? 30 miles radius West LA. ~$40/person

Hey guys!

Anyone have any suggestions for a nice dinner on Saturday for 17 ppl within 30 miles radius of West LA? Budget around $40/person. I'm considering a few potential places (Carlitos Gardel, The Jar, Tony's Italian Steakhouse, Lucques) but I've never been to any of those places so I would be grateful if any of you nice people out there could point out their suitability.

So, summary! I'm looking for a place that is...
*Roomy enough to accommodate a group of 17 without being cramped
*Reasonably priced (~$40/person)
*30 miles radius of West LA
*Reasonable noise level so that we won't get dirty looks but is at least conducive for conversation

We also have 3 kids in our group (age 12, 9 & 2) so a nice place that's not too formal is a plus though not necessary.

I look forward to your suggestions. Feel free to recommend any other places that might be suitable. Thanks in advance.
