Great Breakfasts DC - Old Alexandria

My wife and 4 year old daughter will be in Old Alexandria and DC this weekend, staying in McLean. We are breakfast lovers! Any suggestions?

Food Journey to Outer Banks, NC

Thanks for your thoroughness. You have been very helpful. However, we found Tommy's sorely lacking. The website made it seem so promising. The adventure of the food hunt is what it's about, anyway!

Food Markets, Souther Shores, OBX

Are there any really good food markets around Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, etc.? Pies, Breads, Meats, Fish, Poultry, etc...

Food Journey to Outer Banks, NC

I will be travelling down rte 13, staying in the southern shores, nags head, kill devil hills, kitty hawk. We heard there is not much in Duck. So, what do you know? Is there a good market for food, with great bread, pastries, beautiful fruit, veggies, poultry, fish, etc.? I want to do some cooking.

I am heading to the OBX next Saturday with my family ages 2 to 58. Any great food discoveries along the way, and while we are there?

Sandwich slicing - whole vs. rectangle vs. triangle

For me, cutting diagonally has a more creative, artistic flourish. Even placement on the plate, with, say some mixed green salad piled somewhere in between the two sandwich halves, is a more visually appealing presentation. Food that is well presented is just more appetizing.

Sandwich slicing - whole vs. rectangle vs. triangle

Actually, "subs" is not totally correct. In various regions they take on different names, such as "hoagie" and "grinder". Maybe while one of us is easily cutting our way through a neat, rectangular sandwich some research can be done as to the origin of all these names for the same shaped bread. How about it?

The New Cottage Food Economy

Just as the recording industry has been challenged to come up with new models of doing business, perhaps food purveyors are going to have to be challenged in similar ways. Before the French Revolution, there were no restaurants. The world is a better place, though, and I for one support these changes in the food world.

Coffee + Salt

If I recall, salt is a base, and therefore acts to balance out the acidity of the coffee, making it taste more mellow.
