Saws in Avondale

That's interesting Dax as the new review on AL.com stresses their fresh-cut fries. Maybe they hadn't set up the kitchen to do fresh-cut fries yet when you went?

Birmingham. Lunch Tuesday

How about Niki's West on Finley Blvd? It's just off of 65 north of B'ham, and is a legendary meat-n-three experience.

Saws in Avondale

Saws BBQ has opened a location in Avondale! Yay!

It's on 41st Street South near Avondale Brewing Company.

Sherrys Cafe

Heard this place was good, anybody been there? Sherrys Cafe in Trussville. Is it a meat n three?

Birmingham - new, or new to you?

Thanks for the beta on Silver Coin. I went to Taj recently for take-out and wondered if they had simply forgotten to spice the food. And I went to Sitar and had the buffet and it was OK but just not spicy at all. I don't want my head to explode from spice/heat, but come on...

Birmingham - new, or new to you?

curej what do you recommend at Silver Coin? I've been there but it's been quite a while. I love spicy Indian food.

Anyone been to Flat Top Stir-Fry in Birmingham?

If your SIL threw up for 12 hours I hope she went to the ER!

I liked Flat Top the one time we went. I went with the standard steak and vegetables with the sesame teriyaki sauce IIRC that is the name of it.. and brown rice. It was very good, not 'amazing' but a nice lunch and reasonably healthy.

Hispanic grocery store

So is the Britos, Dax. I think they are the same place.

Hispanic grocery store

The Britos is near Harbor Freight.

Hispanic grocery store

I'm going by what Big Daddy wrote at the top of this thread: "Try El Mercado up on the hill at the corner of West Valley and Green Springs. They make tortillas in-house and I'm sure they'd sell some masa."

There is a Brito's up on the hill at the corner of West Valley and Green Springs and I wondered if that was the same store Big Daddy was talking about.

Hispanic grocery store

Is El Mercado different than the Brito's Supermarket? If so where exactly is El Mercado?

good eats near Barber Vintage Festival, Birmingham, AL for visiting Canadian

How about the original Golden Rule bbq on Crestwood Blvd? Not far from the track and it's good Q.

Bham non-hydrogenated lard

Anyone know where I can buy non-hydrogenated lard in the B'ham area? If not B'ham how about Atlanta?

fried rice

I think Surin has the best shrimp fried rice I've had in B'ham. Do you have some other recommendations?

Busy Bee Burger in Chelsea?

Anyone been here? Worth the drive from B'ham?

Fort Payne, Alabama

LA to Birmingham. Where Do I Eat?!

By all means go to NIKI's, and do NOT do the Irondale Cafe.
Niki's is the best example of a Southern "Meat N Three" in B'ham; The Irondale Cafe is mediocre by comparison.

Birmingham real tacos

Well I never got over to try the reputed Taco Truck in Leeds, and when I just asked my hispanic friend where it is, he said it is not there anymore.
I'm thinking my first 'real' taco experience is going to be Gordo's

Birmingham real tacos

I have just gotten a tip from a Hispanic friend that there is a good taco truck in Leeds now. I am going to go check it out, will report. Though I admit I have never had a 'real' taco and so I can't compare to these other places.

grass fed beef

Does anyone know if the grass-fed beef you can get from local farms near Birmingham is wet or dry aged?

Jim and Nick's BBQ............

Have any of you tried Big Bolton's bbq in Argo? It's a bit of a drive from B'ham so I haven't made it to check it out yet but I have a buddy who loves it.

Nikki's, Irondale Cafe or BHam BBQ.............

Nikki's on Finley! Irondale Cafe is really overrated. Nikki's on Finley is much much superior.

Birmingham Egg Rolls

Where do you get your favorite egg rolls, and spring rolls, fried or non-fried, in Birmingham?

My favorite egg rolls are from Chop Suey Inn. I also like the spring rolls at Surin, at Chen express, and the fresh spring rolls at Pho Que Huong.

Any other suggestions of places to get rolls?

Birmingham Szechuan peppercorns

curej, where did you buy that oil?

Funky, or interesting, in Birmingham/Homewoood Alabama

Check out Do-Di-Yo's in Homewood, it is a neat place and I think it's what you're describing when you say neat, funky and ethnic.

Alabama - Looking for a restaurant along 65 north Birmingham/ Priceville

Niki's West on Finley Boulevard.

Birmingham - new, or new to you?

I have been told that Carpenetti's in Moody is excellent, but haven't had a chance to try it. Maybe you can go and give us a report. It's supposed to be New York style pizza.

Bham Burgers

Need suggestions for best hamburgers in Birmingham.

Bham "Holes" of Note

Go to Niki's on Finley for dinner. Order fried shrimp off of the menu. They are delicious.
