Near Journal Square/Landmark Theater in Jersey City?

Elaine,
The best in the area is Casa Dante three blocks north of the theater on Newark Ave. Don't know how quick they would be though.

Also on Newark Ave is a large Indian neighborhood with numerious restaurants. Can't recommend any, but you can search the Mid-Atlantic board and see if any show up.That is probably where this post should be

If you like hotdogs (now that would be quick), Boulevard Drinks is right next to the theater and has great grilled Sabretts and spicy onion chili. They have been there about 60 years. That would be a great after the movie snack.

Thanks for the link. You might want to try Bella Sera in Tom's River. Nothing fancy, but very good family style dining. Many dishes can easily be shared by two. Just ask the waitress. Scungilli Fra Diavlo was excellent. They have a $34 Braciole that looks like it can feed four. I am going there Saturday to try that. Of course, it's not just the quantity, the quality seems to be there as well, but will need to go through a few more menu items to be sure since this is only my second visit.
If you google "Bella Sera, Toms River", the chef has a couple of videos on youtube.

Help me narrow down my pizza choices...

Just a quick note on Una Pizza Napoletana. Before NYC, he was in Point Pleasant Beach NJ in a small strip mall on Rt. 35. Then one day they were closed and I thought he just ran out of dough again. When I found out he closed I was unconsolable and began to drown my sorrows in the gooiest and soggiest pizza I could order over the phone. Thankfully I have recovered. (just kidding on this part)
He used to display a VPN logo which may just be a Naples based advertisement. Check out the prices to join. Here's their website.

Really Fresh Sushi-New Jersey

Has anyone tried Ten East in Bayonne on route 440? Its just past the cruise ship port and across from a lightrail station. A beautilful restaurant that serves Hibachi and Fusion as well. Sushi and sashimi are very fresh.

Newark Italian

I do remember Peppe's, but am sure it is now gone. I believe it was off Bergen Ave near McKinley Square. Also gone is the Canton Chinese restaurant on Bergen ave near Journal Square. At one time there was a bowling alley above the restaurant which made for an interesting dinner date evening.
Has anyone tried Just Sonny's on Sterling Ave in JC? It's not too far from Laico's and parking is just as bad, but good old school Italian.
I also like Angelina's on Broadway in Bayonne. She cooks and her son Jean Paul runs the bar and front. Very unusually decorated but fun, they have one menu. Literally! Excellent old school.

Top Tomato Superstore

Thanks Tapas. Their website looks great. We go to Jackson Mills sometimes and will be sure to stop in.

Top Tomato Superstore

I agree with the not so positive comments regarding TT. I have gone to the one in Brick on Brick Blvd. a few times and found the produce not fresh. The "booklyn" bread is good though. Also big can of San Marzano tomatoes that are not DOP stamped.
A good alternative is Mulberry Street, across the street a few block down. More expensive, but quality meats and prepared dishes.

Italian in Brick, NJ

Hello all. This is my first posting after being just a long time reader. Just wanted to mention a couple of my favorite Italian places.

Georges Place on Mantoloking Rd - A BYOB with great specials - Baby lamb chops whenever they have them are wonderful, also the mussel appertizer in White or Red sauce. They also have thin crust pizza from a wood (yes wood) burining oven. That and a antipasti salad for about $25.

Via Veneto on Brick Blvd, great Veal dishes. Where else can I get La Trippa as it should be made? Tender in a light red sauce with a kick.

But the main reason for my post: Has anyone tried Jules Restaurant on Hooper Avenue in Toms River? It's in the same area as Charlie Browns, but off Oak Hill.
Yes, this is the same Jules from Franklin ave in the Jersey City heights. They also had a smaller restaurant on West Side ave in JC next to Holy Name Cemetery. (Ilvento's had the restaurant on the other side of the cemetary.)
Barbara is the chef/owner and is the granddaughter of the original owner. It's a BYOB with plenty of space between tables (probably due to the parking lot size).
Great homemade Italian, especially the Chicken Parm. I use this basic dish as the measuring stick for Italian restaurants. Also Chicken Saltimbocca, which is simple ingredients but easy to screw up.
She also makes delicious mussels in a light cream sauce. No, I have no monetary interest in Jules, other than eating at the JC location three times a week when I was just out of school and rooming with friends. She did remember our names and that was 35 years ago.

Just wanted to let you know that it's out there.

Thanks,
