Jazz Brunch in Philly?
The only one I'm familiar with is at Nodding Head, a small brewpub in Center City (www.noddinghead.com). The jazz isn't great...but not too shabby, and the food is good solid gastropub stuff. Of course the beers aren't too shabby either.
Philly BYO's w/ no reservations
Thanks for all the tips. My family are early dining type folk so its not like we're going out of our way to get to a no res place....more its the fact that we might as well take advantage of a place that is tough to get into later on in a night since everyone will be ready to eat anyway.
Philly BYO's w/ no reservations
Hey I have family coming in to town soon on a Saturday and they want to do a BYO. Most of my favorites and ones I'd like to try have no reservation policies on the weekends. I've never minded but I feel like they might if its too long.
So my question...I'm wondering what sort of luck any of you have had at a place like Melograno or Mercato coming in earlier on a weekend. 5:30? 6:00? obviously a little wait is fine but thought I'd get a feel for your experiences with the comparative early bird approach.
Wings! Where are the best in Pittsburgh?
i haven't lived in the burgh for a couple years but i used to love the wings at Birmingham Bridge Tavern. Definitely had the crispiness you're looking for and they had some sort of special house sauce that was delicious.
Recs for U of Pitt area
definitely agree with the spice island rec. and the "o" is a classic for late night eats.
also if you have any room after dinner, dave & andy's is right up atwood st from spice island. some great ice cream with fresh made waffle cones.
oh and of course there is a primanti brothers location right on forbes ave for the ubiquitous pittsburgh sandwich.
Best Lunch Cart Chicken Pita
falafel nazi is ridiculously good of course. just out of curiousity, what is your usual greek cart?
Iron City Beer in Philly
Iron City? oh man, it'd take a heaping helping of nostalgia to make that brew drinkable.
That being said, I'm pretty sure I've seen it at the Bella Vista distributor, 11th and Fitzwater
Recommended - Bebe's BBQ
Besides all the great BBQ, these guys are also making biscuits (on Sunday mornings only). I'd heard about them for the last few weeks but finally got in this past Sunday morning. Had a regular biscuit with some slices of prosciutto. Then picked up one another to take home and reheat later. It had chopped up prosciutto actually in the biscuit with a hint of mustard too. Wow. So good. She also had made some black pepper cheddar biscuits too that sounded awesome.
Anyone been to L'Angolo lately?
last time was maybe 2 months ago and everything was great. and seeing as how i live a couple blocks away...i think 2 months is too long.
Goat in Philly?
the jamaican food truck by the community college on 17th b/w spring garden and callowhill has curry goat. haven't had it yet but like everything else i've had there.
also, i had a ridiculously good goat special at south philly tap room which hopefully gets on the menu: goat empanadas over a salad of arugula, cherry tomatoes and goat cheese ranch.
