Pork Belly shopping?
I can second the Whole Foods sighting. Was there on Monday and surprised to see it in the butcher case. Might have even been on sale?
Clancy's or Patois?
I had some DELICIOUS handmade pasta when I ate there over the summer. And definitely save room for dessert!
Brocato's, La Divina, Gelato Pazzo, or Sucre?
Midcity, here are some flavor recs:
Creole Creamery - chockworth orange (dark chocolate with orange flavoring), peanut butter fudge pie, red velvet cake (creole cream cheese ice cream with big chunks of cake in it), and pink peppermint pie (pink peppermint ice cream with chocolate pie crust and other deliciousness thrown in). They also always have some really neat, funkier flavors like lavender honey or cucumber sorbet.
As for Sal's, they have a flavor called thin mint or something like it that everyone goes crazy for. I always like dreamsicle, and half wedding cake-half chocolate is a personal fave of mine at any snowball stand in town. Especially Droopy's!!!
Brocato's, La Divina, Gelato Pazzo, or Sucre?
N.O. Food, I agree with you completely! Sucre for the chocolates and fancy drinks, Brocato's for the old-timey atmosphere - and I LOVE their mini cannolis, my mimi used to buy a whole tray of their pastries everytime a holiday rolled around - but Creole Creamery totally wins for ice cream. I would gladly eat their chockworth orange and peanut butter fudge pie daily. I tried Gelato Pazzo at one of the Wednesdays at the Square - a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of lemon, both were good.
affordable, romantic dinner with long-distance boyfriend?
Thanks for all of the suggestions, everyone! Right now I think I'm leaning towards either Martinique or Bayona, and thinking about Feelings, too. I've heard great things about that place! If we hadn't visited Crepe Nanou already, we'd totally be going there. So romantic!
affordable, romantic dinner with long-distance boyfriend?
Hi, Nola Chowhounders,
I just signed up with Chowhound, and this will be my first post! Anyway, my long-distance bf is coming in town in a few weekends, and we haven't spent time together in NOLA since January! I want this weekend to be really fun and completely New Orleans-y, so we're going to do things like take a tour of the New Orleans Rum Distillery and visit the Carousel bar. Anyway, Saturday night I want to treat him to a cozy, romantic, DELICIOUS dinner somewhere, and I'm hoping to go somewhere I've never been before, either. I'd like it to have a courtyard, but even if it doesn't, ambiance is key.
So far I've thought of Martinique Bistro, Coquette, Lilette, La Petite Grocery, Muriel's, MiLa or Bayona. He doesn't like too much seafood, and his palette isn't THAT daring, so I want to go somewhere where they'll definitely have a few things he'll like. Also, he loves duck! I know this is a lot of restrictions, but anyone have any guidance or suggestions?
Thanks!
