$10 meals, can we make a list?

Only once a week do I spend $10+ on a meal for our family of 6. Homemade veggie burgers on homemade buns with all the fixings only cost about $0.40/each. There is a huge variety of recipes possible. Bean-based meals are ridiculously cheap. Also, you can make a nearly free meal from a roasted chicken carcass. Put it in the crockpot overnight with just water and it makes a delicious broth. Add beaten eggs for protein, grains if you want the carbs in it too. That might cost $1.50 if you add in 2 eggs per person. Bean tacos are also crazy cheap.

Scallions: my favorite "new" ingredient

You can also put the root ends (after using the tips) into a little dish of water and they'll regrow. :)

Wrap them in a damp paper towel and they'll keep for quite a while.

What to do with preserved lemon?

Throw it in with roasted veggies. Add it to the rice. Salsa w/tomato,onion,garlic, cilantro... Oh, yum...

kosher for passover protein powder ????

Is it for a smoothie? Any chance you could just use cottage cheese for the week?

Myrtle Beach Supermarkets that have kosher (frozen pizza?), name and number of kosher market

WOW! Was Little Israel a shop separate from the meat restaurant??? That's a change from when we were there. :)

When we were there a year+ ago, the meat restaurant had a small grocery section. I know they had lots of Israeli dry goods, some great cheese, and probably other things in the fridge section. I think it likely they had meat, but I don't remember exactly what. The separate kosher market was no longer there. Chabad will have the info, since it's all run by them.

Side dishes that go with texas chili on shabbos lunch?

I love to make a cabbage/cilantro/lime juice/salt/oil slaw to go with that kind of food. It's best served immediately, rather than marinated a little.

We don't like peas, but...

I LOVE pea shoots. Raw, anyway. If you cook them, they get tough and stringy... :)

Help with Vegan, Kosher Thanksgiving menu & products, please

I always like rice milk in mashed potatoes. We make our own soy milk now, though, so I never buy rice milk. I like mashed potatoes with just some water and Earth Balance mixed in.

Forget Tofutti! Here's a GREAT pareve sour cream recipe:

1 package silken tofu
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1/4 cup oil

Purée it all in the food processor.

We've come to actually PREFER it to dairy sour cream. :)
