More affordable Lobster and Lobster rolls in NJ
Shop-Rite $5.99 last week and I believe this week as well. Took them live and cooked them at home, they were wonderful!
Hy's cheesecake
Hy's was the best, I grew up in South Orange and loved this cake. As an adult I would drive there to get the light, delicious cake. I remember Hy teaching me how to cut the cake! This recipe would be a find. I have the recipe rom the original Claremont Dinner in Montclair. A heavy, yummy, rich cake. I did once bake a cheesecake that was as close to Hy's as I ever came, I will look for it and post if I still have it.
Banh Mi in Howell, NJ!!!
The menu looks great, if the new location is across from Sam's Club it is for certain the old Oasis location. This will be a welcome addition to our neighborhood. Might try this tonight!
Olive Garden coming soon in Freehold, NJ
I am sad to see Olive Garden come to this part of town, not because of the traffic but because of the fact that we STILL do not have one single neighborhood restaurant we can go. At least when Cuba was opening we had hope that it could be promising (it turned out to be the opposite), but come on, Olive Garden! By the way most "authentic " Italian food is not floating in some kind of gummy sauce. How about someone opening a great restaurant in Freehold?

Lobster Shanty in Hightstown closing and reopening as....
They own Moore's and Escondito's in Freehold as well, I believe this is going to be more like Moore's. Sports bar , burger type place.
Mother's Day- Central NJ
Restaurant Nicolas has a very inexpensive pre fix for Mother's Day, hard to resist!
Cook Your Own Cabo?
The fact is you can dine out on a budget in Cabo very easily. I am headed there tomorrow and have been going for many, many years. Visit Trip Advisor, look for the cabo San Lucas forum and check out Trapper's list.
Lake Lugano, Italy
We will staying on Lake Lugano in Osteno in May. Can anyone help with restaurant choices and more important food and wine shopping to stock our rental house. We of course will have a car. Thanks
Good corned beef sandwich in Central New Jersey
Depends were you live, Fred & Murrays in Manalapan/Freehold area is ok. Nothing around is as good as what I grew up on but his is not bad.
American Hotel -- Freehold
We were there earlier that evening meeting friends for a drink before dinner, somewhere else, but that should not change the quality of the food. I did say the bar staff was good. It was packed when we were there as well. I think the restoration and design were ok but I never saw the original so it's impossible to have a feel for how well they did. I am possibly more critical regarding this issue because I work in this field. We would possibly stop for a drink again but no apps.Anyway thats what makes the world go round, different tastes, different perceptions.
American Hotel -- Freehold
I was there last night and nothing vibrant about it. The bar ia on the small side, bartenders we very nice and friendly. They did let quite a few young children sit at the bar with parents. There was a wedding going on in a banquet room, but these folks were not from the wedding. The dining room did not look inviting. We had some apps at the bar, not worth writing about. All in all we most likely will not go back.
American Hotel Freehold
Happy New Year everyone....has anyone had a chance to try this yet? I called last night and asked about their website and if they were putting up info on restaurants and was told they are "working on it". I also asked about the bar and how large it is etc. The young lady was not very informative other than telling me they have a champagne bar and the overflow from the bar can go in here. I figure unless they kill someone it should be crowded etc. as it's the only game in town other than Metro. We might try it this weekend but thought I would see if anyone has actually dined here.
Franco's Italian Kitchen - Hidden Gem
Thanks for the review, I work in EBR and also pass this place several times a day. The area is chock full of chains but no decent food. I will check this out soon and report back. Regarding the pasta shape...I agree it makes a difference silly as it sounds.
A Little Bit of Cuba Coming Soon in Freehold, NJ!!!
Mishy..the problem with that is burgers are great but it would be fantastic to have a "walk to" place with a bar or byob that has great food. We tried Oasis a few weeks ago for the third time and the food was just terrible, and very expensive. La Piazza is terrible, so we are stuck with Mazhu and Moores!
Should we try Catherine Lombardi in New Brunswick?
We love the bar at CL and the owners, but the food, not so much. Would rather have drinks up there and dinner at Stage Left.
A Little Bit of Cuba Coming Soon in Freehold, NJ!!!
Im with you, hard to believe but people will take what they can get and we have slim pickings in this end of town. I wish a great BYOB would open!
Any recommendations for a small wedding reception in North Jersey?
Bernards Inn does an excellant job.

Angelo,
Glad you had a great meal at Nicolas. We love this wonderful restaurant and have never had a bad experience here. That's not to say others have not. Please give a full review so we can all have our tatse buds awakened while reading!

Has anyone been here recently? I am getting such mixed reviews we don't know if it's worth the ride up there to try it.
One lunch in Paris, where should we go......
Thanks for your suggestions and I believe we are dining on the roof terrace. I can't wait!
One lunch in Paris, where should we go......
Visiting my son in London and taking the Eurostar into Paris for one night. Staying at the Hotel Raphael and having dinner there with clients on the 8th of September. Where in this area would you suggest for a great lunch and great bottle (or more!) of wine?
Bars in the Brick Lane area
We will be visiting my son and family early September. They are living in Brick Lane area and we need to entertain young clients. Can you share names of nice/trendy bars to meet for a drink within walking distance of this area?
Looking for Dinner Recs in New Brunswick
Anyway, they are out of the rotation! There are so many other terrific places to go and have a great meal at the same prices or less. I value our time far too much to waste it going back to give an established restaurant a second try. They should have paid attention to what was coming out of the kitchen, and if they didn't catch it, the server certainly should have. Had sh bothered to stop by and pour some wine (at $75 bucks a bottle) she would have noticed! Anyway good eats to all.
Looking for Dinner Recs in New Brunswick
RGR..
Could have sent it back but was already so over this place that it did not matter. I actually have very sophicated taste in food and dining and am an excellant cook. I expect a restaurant of this "caliber" to give exceptional service and send out an entree as ordered. My companians dinner was not as bad, appitizer was smoked salmon(can't mess that up comes out of a package!) scallops which wile not bad were not great. He also found the cake to be terrible.
By the way, I love Catherine Lombardi's bar. We were actually there prior to walking over to Frog. I do not love the food at CL but the bar is great.
Looking for Dinner Recs in New Brunswick
I had the misfortune of dining at The Frog and the Peach on Saturday night. I ahd not been there in some years and was looking forward to it. Atmosphere was great but that's where it ended. I ordered one of the "special" appitizers which was tauted as an eggplant tart. It was actually a tall stack of eggplant and something else, so unremarkable I can't even remember. I ordered lamb for my main. Now I really like my lamb very rare, they said no problem. It was well done. I would have actually sent it back but the sauce was do horrible I figured what was the point. Had anyone ever come over to pour our very expensive bottle of wine, they might have noticed that my entree had barley been touched! I was starving so ordered the olive oil cake. Now I make an outstanding olive oli cak, moist and terrific so I expected better from them. It was 3 oval lumps about 1.5 inches in diameter with something green drizziled on the plate. So dry and discuting I couldn't swallow it. They have to be kidding! The waitress said she would take it off the bill. The manager came over and when I explained about the meal and that no one poured any wine for us he gave me his card for the next time. That is not happening. I left there starving and had to get some bar food at the Heldriech when we went back to the hotel. Now really they should be ashamed. We love Nicolas and have never left there hungry or having been served that caliber of food. Some of you complain anout Nicolas bieng pretentious, bring it on, for a $300.00 dinner which I don't mind paying at least come to the table once in while, not just for the tip! I will never return .
