January 2013 Dish of the Month - SOUP I was driving by the Deli Llama in Hillcrest at 5th and Pennsylvania. Saw their chalkboard listing mushroom and pablano soup and knew I had to stop. It is a cream based soup but very light texture with small pieces of mushroom and pepper throughout. Wow was it good. Just the right amount of spice. Makes me want to go back and try more of their soups. |

Went to BG last night. This was my 2nd visit. The first was okay but last night was very good. Shared the burger. It was good and the fries were better this time around. But the porkbelly.....ohhh. Sat on some noodles in a miso sauce and was topped with a poached egg. Still thinking about it today. Could be a very decadent cravable menu item |

Went to Alchemy last night and I had to ask myself why I haven't been there for so long!! I had the crispy skin jidori chicken that was so tasty. It was busy for a Wednesday night which is good. Finished up with the bread pudding yummy. I will be back often as I now crave that chicken. |

Best Chilaquiles (with corn tortillas) in SD? I was there on Sunday about 3:00. I love their Chiaquiles but didn't see them. When I asked, the man who is always there, said he would make whatever I wanted. I like them on the softer side but as I continued to eat everything else we ordered they softened up and were great. |

Spent a wonderful week in Buenos Aires and here is the food we found Day 1 Monday - lunch at Mark’s Deli. Average food. It looked better than it tasted. Dinner at Don Julios. Good but nothing really memorable. Day 2 Tuesday - Lunch at Cluny. Excellent. 3 course lunch with a glass of wine for 20 US. Appetizers were very good. Pretty setting and we sat outside. Dinner at La Cabrera. Yeah I know it is very touristy but had a great meal. Day 3 Wed– We went to Palermo Hollywood to do some shopping. Was told there was good shopping in Palermo Hollywood. Not so much but did have a nice lunch at Ravelo. Very rich food. Dinner at Bobo. Excellent!! Had 5 courses with wine pairing for 55 US. Really enjoyed the whole experience at Bobo. Highly recommend. Day 4 Thurs – Went to a Gaucho ranch and had the best empanadas of the trip. I am still thinking about those empanadas. Had a traditional Argentinean BBQ. Very good. Had pizza at El Cuartito. I wasn’t blown away by the pizza but my friends were. Day 5 –Took the ferry over to Colonia for the day. Had the worst meal of the trip at a restaurant I can’t remember the name of but it was an awful lunch. Dinner made up for it at Sarkis Great Armenian. Great food and fun atmosphere. Day 6 – Had empanadas and tamale’s for lunch at El Sanjuanino. The empanadas were good but the tamales were a very pleasant surprise. Excellent we ordered more they were that good. Dinner at Antares. Horrible food but the beer was good. Day 7 – Lunch at La Cabrera. Yeah we did a repeat but was great again. Best steak of the trip. Loved that they serve champagne while you wait. All in all it was a great trip with a lot of really good food. |

Venice (old Tutto Mare) San Diego I had the worst dining experience in recent memory today at Venice in UTC. It used to be Tutto Mare. It was packed when we got there for a 12:30 reservation. Admittedly we screwed up the res and forgot someone so it changed from 5 to 6. They were able to get us out on the patio which was cold. Utlimately they moved us inside. Our waiter was very busy. Long painful story short it took 11/2 hours to get our food. One of the diners had a 2:00 call and had to take his lunch to go. We were assured by our waiter that it wasn't his fault. Tables seated long after we were were eating and leaving before we were served. The manager was requested twice to come to our table and avoided us for very long time. I watched both times when the waiter told him we wanted to talk with him our table was pointed out to him. When he finally did come over he said that he could apologize over and over but it wouldn't change anything. Finally it was suggested to him that he could buy us lunch which he did begrudgedly The food wasn't bad but it was the longest lunch meeting I have ever experienced. Won't be going back. |

I went on Sunday night not knowing it had been open for 2 days. It was very good. The service was a bit slow but all in all a good experience. The coq au vin was great as were the filet and lamb. We tried order the escargot but they don't have any yet. That was bit of a disappointment. It was very crowded as well. Nice neighborhood joint. I look forward to going back. |

Need great restaurant near Scripps Ranch Area Up the road a bit is an excellent french place called BernardO's. I was there this week and had an amazing meal. Highly recommend going. The restaurant is on Rancho Bernardo road. |

I have been to both and Market is far superior to Paradise in both food and atmosphere. |

Our thoughts on Market in San Diego... Just went to Market last night. The service was a bit slow as they were swamped on a Thursday night. The three friends I was with were moaning all throughout the meat. The short ribs are addictive. Can't wait to go back. |

I went to Blanca last night based on what were rave reviews. It is a very pretty restaurant. Friendly bartender who is a great sales guy for the restaurant. I arrived early and sat at the bar. Took a look at both the dining and bar menus. Very interesting ingredients and preparation. As my friends joined me we thought about a couple of entrees and some sharable items from the bar menu. The dining menu's apps weren't the sharing sort. As we were seated we were informed that we couldn't order off the bar menu in the dining room. That was too bad as that menu has some interesting things on it. Two of us decided on the trout and the other the appetizer of short ribs and the soup. As the entrees arrived we discovered that the trout was an ocean trout. None of us had heard of that before. It turns out, for lack of a better description, very close to salmon. Neither of us are salmon lovers. The server checked back in with us and we asked about the fish. Yes indeed it is very close to salmon. That wasn't made clear at the time of order. I ate most of it but again not a salmon lover. My friend really didn't like it and left most of it. The runner took our plates and didn't mention the nearly full piece of fish left. The fish entree's were $36.00 and the short ribs app was $20.00. We all come away with the thought while good food it come near to great food and it looked as if everything was $5-%10 overpriced. I wanted to love it but really only liked it...kind of. I would consider going back for some apps in the bar maybe. |

I am looking for a restaurant for a birthday celebration next Thursday. I have been told about Salerno's and being from San Diego not familiar with it or the area. Other recommendations are welcomed. |
