Chincoteague

I'm going to be taking a trip to Chincoteague and some of the surrounding areas on the Eastern Shore. I have noticed that any threads on Chincoteague are a bit old so I was wondering if anyone had more recent restaurant recommendations. (Other sites alllike have mixed reviews for pretty much every restaurant on the island.) I'm interested in seafood obviously and anything else that's good.

Thanks in advance

Need help with regional chinese

If I go to Bei Jiang it's probably would be myself and one other person. What would you recommend we order there? And neither of us speak any Chinese, would that be a problem there?

Need help with regional chinese

Knowing that Bei Jiang is a pseudo-Uyghur restaurant and that I'm not bothered by it being "pseudo-Uyghur", is it worth going there at all?

Need help with regional chinese

I saw the thread about Bei Jiang but I couldn't get a feel for the place from that thread. What do you mean by the "overall experience in mediocre"? I realize that it's not real Uyghur food but the only place in North America I know of to get Uyghur food is in the San Gabriel Valley near LA. IOW the fact that its not true Uyghur food isn't going to stop me unless there are other reasons not to go there.

Beyond that one thing I'm noticing is the lack of anything from Dongbei. I found a place in the archives called Joyce Jiaozi. Are they still serving Dongbei cuisine?

Could you tell me a bit more about Yunnan side of things at S&W Pepperhouse?

This list is exactly what I was hoping for. If you (or anyone else) comes up with places for lesser known Chinese cuisine not already listed here, please add them.

This is great. That level of detailed information is really helpful.

Even though I don't live in Vancouver I hope that the 8GTCC series at that blog starts up again too.

Need help with regional chinese

I'm going to be in Vancouver next month, and I'm interested in sampling some authentic regional Chinese cuisine while I'm there. I have done some searching on this board already and have found recommendations like Alvin Garden for Hunan and Peaceful for Northern Chinese. What I'm also interested in are the lesser known/more obscure regional Chinese cuisines.

Potentially I'm interested in anything and everything when it comes to regional Chinese cuisine. I don't know what my schedule will be like exactly yet so please list any recommendation you may have regardless of location.

Thank you very much in advance.

Local seafood in Door County

I have never tried a fish boil so I will give it a go once. Given what you and others have said about fish boils being tasteless I'm surprised that the Wisconsin fish fry tradition didn't displace the Door County fish boil tradition.

Local seafood in Door County

Yes, I mean the Door County in WI.

After doing some searching on my own, I have come to the same conclusion. It's too bad they don't realize what they have got just a few miles away in Lake Michigan and Green Bay. I'm not a locavore but I appreciate being able to sample local cuisine and local foods when I go somewhere.

Thanks to everyone for your responses.

Local seafood in Door County

I'm going to be taking a trip to Door County soon and was looking for some restaurants that serve good local/regional seafood like lake perch, walleye, etc. I already know where I'm going for a fish boil so I don't need that. I'm looking for seafood other than that. Thanks.

British Columbia Wine In The US

I have been looking to buy some wine from British Columbia. Any wine store I go to has wine from everywhere except from Canada. Does anyone know of any wineries from British Columbia that ship to the US or stores that import wine from British Columbia? I have been looking and I can't find any except for some very limited ice wine which isn't what I'm looking for. Anything from the Okanagan Valley or Vancouver Island would be fine. Is it not possible to get wine from BC or Canada in general unless you go there and bring it back yourself?

Need Southern MD help

I don't know if this should go in DC & Baltimore or the Mid-Atlantic board but I need some help with what's good in Southern MD. I going to be in the Solomon's Island/Calvert County, St. Mary's County, and Charles County areas for a few days. I looking for restaurants serving local cuisine which for the region I suspect means seafood or barbecue. I tried looking on both the DC and Mid-Atlantic boards but everything is at least a few years old.

Thanks.

Alternatives to Southern Soul BBQ

What about Mack's? There isn't too much here on chow about that place.

Alternatives to Southern Soul BBQ

This list is great. Thanks. Twin Oaks BBQ looks to be what I'm looking for. How is the Brunswick stew there? One review I read said that Twin Oaks was in a "bad area". Is that correct?

Alternatives to Southern Soul BBQ

I'm going on a trip down the GA coast later in the month and I was planning on going to Southern Soul BBQ. I heard about the fire they had, and I doubt they will have rebuilt by the time I'm down there. What are some good alternatives to Southern Soul BBQ in the Brunswick - St. Simons Island area that represent the style of BBQ from that part of GA? (I believe that includes Brunswick stew.)

Thanks.

Schmankerl Stube vs. the Bavarian Inn

It sounds like I want Schmankerl Stube. Does Schmankerl Stube have any type of required dress code (i.e. business casual)?

Schmankerl Stube vs. the Bavarian Inn

I'm going to be in Harpers Ferry and western MD soon. I was thinking about going to either the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown or Schmankerl Stube in Hagerstown. Does anyone have any opinions one way or the other? I haven't been to either place, but Shepherdstown will be closer than Hagerstown for me.

Thanks.

What's good in Annapolis?

I'm going to be in Annapolis over Labor Day weekend, and I have one dinner where I'm going to be by myself. So what's good in Annapolis? I was thinking about trying some sort of local cuisine (not sure what that would mean in Annapolis, some type of seafood?) or something else that I can only get in Annapolis (if there is such a thing). Since I only have one meal there, I want to make it count with something I can't get anyplace else or anyplace outside the region.

Thanks.

Red Beans and Rice, Roast Beef Po Boys, and Olivier's

I'm going to be visiting New Orleans next week and have most of my food itinerary planned except for a few things.

First, where is a good place for red beans and rice? Second, where is a good place for roast beef po boys? If there's anything close to the convention center that would be great.

Third, how is Olivier's? The main reason why I'm considering going there is for the gumbo sampler. Is it worth it?

Thanks in advance.

Do I need to replace this pot?

I have a stupid question due to something stupid I did. I was cooking some rice and accidently burnt some of it. The pot it was in was non-stick and pretty new so the rice came out with no problem. Is this pot still useable or do I need to replace it? I'm worried that the non-stick coating will mix in with anything I cook in it. (The pot is a Cusinart GreenGourmet so its not a teflon/PTFE non-stick pot.)

I cleaned the pot with soap and water and it looks like it did before this cooking disaster. Do I need to replace this pot or can I still use it?

Thanks.

Chichen Itza

For that matter, how easy would it be to use a cab? I know it wouldn't be the cheapest thing. Getting there wouldn't be a problem. How easy would it be to get a cab from Chichen Itza back to my hotel?

I'm going to be in downtown LA next week, and I was thinking about going to Chichen Itza when I'm there. I'm not going to have a car so is it doable?

Thanks

Lunch in Chartres

I'm going to be visiting the Cathedral in Chartres, and was wondering what a good place for lunch would be. Anything near the cathedral or the train station or in between would be good. I would love to find a restaurant serving local cuisine if possible.

La Boule Rouge & Wally Le Saharien in Paris

I'm looking forward to trying some North African cuisine on my next trip to Paris at one of these places. Has anyone been to either of these places? What did you think?

From what I understand, La Boule Rouge is a Jewish Tunisian place, and Wally Le Saharien is an Algerian restaurant. The review I read said that Wally Le Saharien only serves a set menu at dinner. For those of you that have been there what was on the set menu at dinner? At lunch, do they have a normal menu or is it only a set menu as well?

Norman, Lorraine, and Northern French food in Paris

In my trips to France, I have really enjoyed the regional French cuisine I have had, much of which has been in Paris since I don't have to time to go to every region in France. However, I have had trouble finding restaurants serving cuisine from Normandy, Lorraine, and Northern France. In the case of Lorraine, I'm not sure if its cuisine is distinct from "Alsatian" so in that case that may be the problem. (I hope I'm wrong.) However I do know that Northern France and Normandy do have unique regional cuisine so I am surprised that I haven't been able find any restaurants serving those cuisines.

Does anyone know of any restaurants serving cuisine from these regions? I really would like to try them on my next trip to Paris. Thanks in advance.
