Your best muffin recipe
I don't bake a lot but all week I have been thinking about muffins! So please share with me your favorite muffin recipe. Sweet or Savory. And bonus if they freeze well too!
Dinner for 2 under $50.00
Looking for some ideas in this range in the Miracle Mile, 3rd Street, Weho area. Just recently moved over here from Beachwood Canyon so my old faves are a little far and some a little pricey.
Ideas for Christmas Dessert
Here is the menu:
Roasted pork shoulder (tbd on the recipe)
Potato-celery root gratin
Green beans with shallots
Salad
I was thinking a panetonne bread pudding, but as breakfast/brunch will include a strata it might just be too much bread and perhaps it should be something lighter. Just thought of maybe chocolate pots?
Seattle - Thankgiving Dessert to go.
Hi -
We will be visiting family in Seattle for the upcoming holiday and want to bring something but don't want to over take their kitchen. Any good bakeries/restaurants that do great desserts that we could order from? Even better if they deliver. Anything from pumpkin pie on up....
Good Clam Chowder?
I have a hankering for some delicious New England style clam chowder. Where should we go? Pretty open on location but would prefer somewhere between West Hollywood and Silverlake, if possible. If it is the BEST clam chowder, well then would probably drive a little further. Thanks!
What to do with blue cheese?
I have a pretty good hunk of Pt. Reyes blue cheese left from a cheese plate. Want to do something different with it than just toss on a salad or with bread. Although that is not bad either.
Safe to eat?
So a package from D'artgans went sat out the night of delivery and was not refrigerated (don't ask). So they put in the fridge this morning and now just opened to inspect. One of the ice packs melted and the other is ok. The meat feels cool not cold. This is second hand so don't know more. It's mostly poultry. I am thinking it's too risky to eat! What a waste. What do you think? This is only the second time we have gotten anything from them so not too experienced with how it arrives, etc.
What dessert with this dinner?
Thanks, these are great ideas. I did not think of greek yougurt! I am thinking that with a grapefruit compote recipe I just found on epicurious. But I will save that pistachio cake for another time.
What dessert with this dinner?
I am making a sort of middle eastern dinner on Friday with Nigella's Za'atar Chicken, a fattoush salad and some couscous. So I need to round out with a bit of something sweet for dessert. Was thinking of just picking up some nice citrus sorbet. But any other ideas? If it was summer probably a fruit salad or grilled stone fruits but not much fresh this time of year.
best veggie burger? astro?
I like the veggie burger at Colony Cafe on Pico. I think it's a sort of bean, cheese mixture and is a bit spicy/southwestern. I don't care for the veggie burger at Houstons, if that gives you any reference for the taste on this.
Jar, Lucques or Hatfields
Thanks for your thoughts. I think I will stick with my Jar reservation. Just maybe ask for a table against the wall.
Jar, Lucques or Hatfields
This would be for a Saturday night dinner with my parents. They are coming from out of town and I want some where with a good vibe but not too "LA". They tend towards simple, well prepared, quality food. They have recently moved to phase 3 of South Beach diet but did say they would be willing to splurge a bit so...
I have been to both Jar and Lucques but not in quite a while. My initial thought is Jar but thought Lucques might be a bit cozier. Or try some place new in Hatfields?
online food/dinner ordering [Moved from Home Cooking]
Not sure this is the right forum, seemed the most appropriate.
My pregnant friend was recently put on bed rest and can't do any cooking. I am out of the area but wanted to possibly send some dinners to her. I know that epicurious has something from homebistro.com. Is that stuff edible? Any other places that might be good to order prepared food from? She is in Westchester Co NY if that helps/
I didn't rinse my lentils
I am making some lentil soup and was too eager! I just added the lentils without rinsing. Did i ruin it?
Is there bar seating at Grace?
I have only been to Grace once and can't really remember so... I is there seating at the bar or in the bar area where one would feel comfortable ordering just apps and drinks? I have a $75.00 gift certificate and was thinking that would be a nice way to use it. My husband didn't love his entree when we ate there and will agree only to have apps and dessert!
A good weeknight dinner for guests?
My in-laws are coming in on Thursday and we will be eating in. I will have to work all day so I would like something that could be mostly prepped ahead and then put together on Thursday. Up to an hour of cooking time on Thursday would be ok. Doesn't need to fancy. They love all kinds of food. I was thinking of the braised chicken with shallots, garlic and balsmic from Epicurious but would love any other recs. I am sort of at a loss with this one. I do want to impress too :-)
Recipe for Curried Butternut Squash Soup?
I had some recently at a restaurant and now want to make some at home. What recipes do you recommend? I found a few at foodnetwork.com but want to try something that you hounds feel is well tested. Going to need to buy some new curry powder for this too. Any brands that I should go with?
Where to find a cold fighting soup between Century City & Hollywood
I have a bad cold and will be leaving work in CC and heading home to the Hollywood area in a few hours. Where can I stop to pick up a tasty soup that can help bust this up. The back up will either be Bristol Farms or Victor's Deli Chicken Noodle but looking for something different.
Question about quantity for BBQ & how far in advance can you make whipped cream?
I was assigned the pasta salad and a fruit crisp for a bbq of about 20 this weekend. I haven't had to prepare food for a group of this number before. Would just 1lb of pasta with the veggies be enough for the pasta salad? Or should I do more? For the crisp, would a 11 x 9 pan be good? I know that there is going to be a lot of food so I just don't want it to be overkill. Also, I'd like to bring some fresh whipped cream but I won't be able to whip it at the bbq so I would have to do it before hand. How long will it hold up?
Thanks chowhounds!
