Charlotte BYOB

I am near Univ NCC, but I will drive wherever. I might try Carpe Diem. Or Asian would be nice since I collect Riesling.
Thanks

Charlotte BYOB

Can anyone comment on BYOB restaurants in CLT ? Is there some law the prevents it ? Is it county based ? If BYOB is ok, then which restaurants have reasonable corkage fees ?
I am traveling from Atlanta, where BYOB is ok.
Thanks

Best Ethopian in ATL?

2nd Desta, it is a cut above the rest. At the intersection where desta is (Briarcliff&Clairmont) there are 4 Ethiopian restaurants. I think Meskerem, Ledet, Buhe and Desta. Fish tibs and chicken tibs are not to be missed.

Does anyone know where the years of forum posts from the former atlantacuisine.com forum live or are they dead ? Tired of asking over at AC. Did the postologists from there come here or just fade away ?
Thanks

One dinner near I-85 in Georgia

Go Lesbians Go ! I see why watershed was on your radar. Decatur is L-friendly as you probably know. In town in general is no worries. New Orleans sets a high (water ;-) mark for food..... Sunday finds many places closed or off their A - game.
Here is Sunday's best bet
"Join us for Sunday Supper from 5:30 to 10:00 p.m. on Sunday evenings. Choice of appetizer, entree and dessert—$29.50."
@ Restaurant Eugene - make a reservation !
Downtown, I-75 and 85 are one. Take 10th-14th Street Exit. Stay straight on that exit-access road until 16th street, turn right. 2nd light turn left (W Peachtree). Get in right lane, merges into Peachtree. Take Peachtree all the way to 2277 Peachtree St. Back to 85 reverse directions, cross over 85 then look left for 85North on ramp sign. Keep a close eye on 85 North signs. Rather than stay in the ATL, get the h*ll out, so you don't deal with Monday traffic madness - even on memorial day. It is better to stay in a new clean suburban hotel than rough it in town. for $76 you can stay at a new Fairfield Inn in Suwanee GA about 500 meters off a 85 North exit. It would be about 40ish minutes to the hotel from Eugene on Sunday night. If you're not happy with these arrangements after the fact I offer a money back guarantee.

Trader Joe's in Charlotte, open yet?

TJ's Charlotte North is next in the queue on the website. This is usually an indication of 'how soon'. Can anyone tell me where they think the N CLT location is, in terms of cross streets ? I have to live in a extended stay hotel in N CLT the next 3 months and want to stay near it. Thanks

Minneapolis - Is the best sushi really Lutefisk ?

Kidding. I read the other sushi threads, but I'm going to be in Plymouth and willing to drive but maybe not as far as Origami. What would be my best choice within 20 minutes. While we're on Plymouth any other non-chain decent options (whatever cuisine) out that way ? BTW No lutefisk recommendations, I had it in Sverige and eesh, might make good bouillon....

Southern food in Atlanta for visitors downtown and on local train route

Atlanta is not a bbq hotbed. If you don't have preconcieved notion of what BBQ has to be, then many out of towners enjoy Fatt Matt's Rib Shack. You could ride the bus (egads !) from the North Avenue Marta Train Station to Fatt Matt's on Piedmont. You should get off at the stop closet to Piedmont and Rock Springs. Fatt Matt' is on the right side of the street after a treed non commerical stretch going up a hill.
Here is the bus schedule
http://www.itsmarta.com/getthere/sche...
(NorthBound - Don't worry, the bus actually takes you away from the 'fray') Or take the Northbound train to Lindberg, grab a taxi (only about 1.5 miles away from there) - This would be what I'd do.

Easy train access will find you South City Kitchen, maybe not 'locals' you're thinking of, but rather very well excuted updates to the southern standards.

Tasty Atlanta eats?

south of town is well, uh, an unfortunate place to be if you are a vegetarian. Mainly chains, but a very well respected Mexican restaurant, but you know how Mexican rests are re vegetarian offerings. even downtown will be tough. how far are you willing to venture from the aquarium ?

Atlanta: Korean Deep Fried Rotisserie Chicken and Beer???

I've driven past it dozens of times, and I thought, that is a spa town in germany, in a korean shopping center? I've seen weird sh*t on Buford highway, but I never thought to stop in. I reckon I will now.

Going to Atlanta - Need Recommendations (& Quick!)

Ok Ted, here you go.

"- Fatt Matt's: In one word: Awesome! This was definitely the highlight of our trip. Fantastic BBQ ribs and chicken, great BBQ pork sandwiches, great sides (we had one-two of each!) and great music too! I definitely recommend this place to one and all. Not for the uppity crowd, but great for BBQ lovers. Definitely a 5/5!"

Atlanta: Any good Northern Chinese/Korean restaurants available?

G Bud is still there and ranked highly by the press, but a bit more Korean places have sprung up. Tofu Houses, Grills, Bap Joints. A place you should try for sure that is recent that has champong (jambong) and the noodles are made by hand is Nam Chun Hong
5953 Buford Hwy NE
Atlanta, GA 30340

Trader Joe's Opening in Roswell Ga

yes but GA is unique in their limitation of brands that can be sold. sure there are many munis that limit where you can buy it, but I don't like the boys controlling what I buy. So beer and wine is due in November, but just brands that are not TJ's at first (read 3 dollar charles). All the goods are being trucked from Chicago. A long way to go until a dist center is setup here. My cashier was from Jersey and moved to Powder Sprangs, yee haa. I asked him what he thought of the 'Sprangs' and he said he liked his new house. Surprise.

Trader Joe's Opening in Roswell Ga

Well it opens tommorrow at 9AM. As I had predicted, it will be without beer and wine. I was wondering how TJ's would get around the stupid good ole boy law of having to use existing distributors since they brand much of their own wine. Welcome to basakward Georgia, Trader Joe's, home of good ole boys (still makin' them rules) and transplants (ie your customers).

Need opinion on 3 Atlanta restaurants

Buckhead Barn, 576 Broadland Road
A riding club with no indication that they serve food, so maybe you're having a cookout. Don't have potato salad (Halter top)

Woodfire Grill, 1782 Cheshire Bridge Road
High Quality, the special (or what you fancy, they usually execute everything well) and the Oregon Pinot Noir (nice casual+)

J. Christopher's, 227 Sandy Springs Place
casual multi location brunch place. creme brulee french toast (comb your hair)

ATL downtown suggestions for PDX lab

I recenly moved from PDX to ATL, sadly. The ethnic choices are where ATL stands above PDX, but they aren't close. Les Fleurs is a good choice as authentic as St Honore (in NW) is for bread. Where are you staying ? Are you willing to take a very short trip on Marta ?

Sushi that doesn't s*ck in or around Columbia, MD

this is very true, I have been to a VERY well regarded (korean owned) sushi place in Portland, ORE where an Unagi nigiri was as long as from my thumb to pinky. I actually took a picture of it next to a quarter. Unfortunately, some people think bigger is better, especially Americans. Gigantic sushi is contrary to the entire concept of sushi and to japanese cuisine in general. I found a much less popular (also korean owned) place when I lived there, where the sushi was zen.

Gluten free restaurant in Annapolis

wow that sounds like a good way to stay thin.
India's
257 West Street
410-263-7900
not all dishes are vegan - gluten free but I bet there are probably a couple.

Going to Atlanta - Need Recommendations (& Quick!)

well I get the colonnade/woodfire pairing, not far from town, both very experiencial. contrasting experiences.

re the convention crowd. Conventions are not unlike any cross section of America, which consist mainly of non-chowhounds and Atlanta serves them fine. If you are a chowhound then you have to be industrious or at least you should be. You need only a tinge of industriousness to get chowhound worthy food in Atlanta, by Marta, cab or sharing a ride with someone who has a rental car.
