DARK SEXY NYC BARS FOR AFTER DINNER INTIMACY!! totally agree with Milk & Honey. |
five spice pork belly sandwich at Num Pang. Delicious! Plus the blood orange lemonade. |
Moderately priced tasting menu? Po in West Village has a 6 course tasting for around $52/person. Momofuku Noodle bar now has a prix-fize - I think it's under $30? |

Tasty Sandwiches near 50th Street & Bway I like Amy's Bread - my favorite is their grilled cheese with tomato, red onion and cilantro. They have a nice selection of sandwiches - all come on their famous bread! Also great sweet treats to help you get through your afternoon. (9th ave between 46th and 47th) ----- |
I actually really like the Pennsylvania Roast Chicken at Upstairs at Bouley - it's super juicy and just a really nice flavor. |
Top 5 Most Overrated in Manhattan I agree with Joe's Shanghai and Spotted Pig. Also Fatty Crab - but that one I am on the fence about and think I should give it another chance, hehe. |

Love the Red Hook Lobster pound Lobster rolls! Delicious! Served on Sundays at the Dumbo Flea Market - prepare to wait at least an hour, but it's worth it!! huge chunks of lobster... |
I just went to the Brooklyn Flea today and tasted the lobster rolls from Red Hook Lobster Pound. Waited 2 hours for a buttered lobster roll and a traditional one - actually worth the wait if you can believe it. And I am usually a very impatient person, haha. Huge delicious chunks of lobster - the buttered one is pure decadence... |

Moving to NYC - Where to live for a die-hard foodie? Firs - Totally agree about being as close to a subway station as possible! I actually lived in Hell's Kitchen for 4 years from 2003-2007 and I loved it. Mainly because it was super convenient to a ton of ethnic cheap food places + many many 24 hours delis. you'd be surprised at how many areas lack a big supply of 24 hour delis... I now will be living in union square - primarily because I think it's a really central location. Nothing is too far - uptown or downtown, whereas in Hell's Kitchen I sometimes found going down to the LES or alphabet city a big trip... If I really had my pick - I would live in the West Village (too pricey for me right now) - I think it has a really great mix of both cheap eats and nice restaurants - and I'd be hard pressed to find a more charming area. Somewhere between west village, greenwich and east village...you can't go wrong with that! |
I really like the ones at Butter Lane in the east village (7th between 1st Ave. and Ave. A). They have some interesting icing flavors - and do both american and french icing. The chocolate cupcake with french vanilla icing is delicious. |

Restaurants everyone loves--except you -Babbo - too much hype made it impossible to live up to. think Po is much better. |

Blue Hill - Main Dining Room or Garden Patio? I've eaten at the patio in the summer - but it was two years ago so maybe things have changed since then... I actually think I preferred the main dining room to the patio - the patio is pleasant, but I feel like you sort of get more of the "Blue Hill" experience in the main dining room. And if you aren't sure about weather, cold/hot/ I always go for inside - plus summer is primo mosquito season! I just think for a pricey meal, I don't want any distractions, hehe |
I like Five Points as well and I also really like The Smith - huge french toast and dishes like potato pancakes with creamed spinach. Also love the Croaker - toasted sourdough rye, ham, fried eggs, and topped with gruyere cheese...yummm ----- The Smith |

They are all really different. I think Fig & Olive is the most "glamorous" in terms of high ceilings, flashy looking crowd. Mediterranean style - for me it can be a bit on the pricey side since it's a bit tapa style... I really like Barbuto - Italian style cuisine - plus the Jonathan Waxman is a contestant on Top Chef Masters so that sort of makes it extra buzz worthy right now... Cafe Cluny is maybe the most charming I think - more like a quaint French cafe - best date place of the three in my opinion. |

Father's Day Brunch/Lunch in SoHo Area I think Jane would be a nice choice - not sure if they are booked up yet but it's a pretty classic brunch spot in Soho. ----- |

Dinner in the area of 11th Ave. & 51st Yep - I loved living in "Clinton" - I still like calling it Hell's Kitchen, hehe. I lived there from 2003-2007, and even in that short period of time I saw 9th Ave. transform completely! I was so sad when I had to move to Boston - I had to give up a rent stabilized apt on 51st and 9th that I loved! Now living around Union Square but I still come up to 9th every so often - love the diversity of the restaurant selections. Oh yeah - also hit up Amy's Bread for sure if you get a chance. Kyotofu is nice for Japanese desserts as well. If you go to Empanada mama - get the guac and plantain chips - and order a pitcher of sangria. Oh, also Uncle Nick's for Greek! |
Dinner in the area of 11th Ave. & 51st I like 9th ave, hell's kitchen area. When I lived there I used to go to Eatery on 53rd and 9th, Empanada Mama on 51/9th, Nook is cute on 50-501st and 9th. If you go a little south - Hell's Kitchen is great at 46th/9th. Just talk a walk along 9th avenue between 44th - 57th and there are quite a lot of cute small inexpensive places... |

Red Egg - one of the better dim sum places in manhattan I feel like it's trying to be a trendy dim sum place, but I think they charge for the trendiness. For me the food is a bit on the greasy side. Nice to take people from out of town or people who have never tried dim sum, but I'd probably stick with some of the more traditional dim sum places for myself. Oh also, the service is a bit spotty - we were not served all the dishes we ordered...but hey, bad service at dim sum is pretty routine, hehe. |

Your 10 favorite Manhattan restaurants? No order: 1.Po |

Hi I went today - I really really liked the 17th St. Memphis baby back ribs the most. Flavor of Baker's Ribs was great and smoky - but a little dry for me. I thought it was really fun until it rained - crowds were less than last year I think... Here's my quick review: http://tinyurl.com/l33pxu Enjoy tomorrow if you didn't go today!! |

Wife's Birthday: Best Meal for under $200 So I always pitch Po in the west village as a great restaurant - not too pricey and really charming. They have a tasting menu - think it's under $60 a person. It's on cornelia between bleecker and west 4th so you can take a nice walk in the west village afterwards... 'cesca on the UWS is also very nice - both places are Italian so not sure if you wanted that... I agree that Hearth is very sterile - and honestly I didn't really think the food was that much to write home about... If you want to spend a little more than a Po or 'cesca - i know it's trite now that Obama went - but I love Blue Hill and think that would be a great choice as well. Maybe you can still get a resy on a Wednesday night? ----- 'Cesca |

West side question from a former New Yorker oh I love Cafe Ronda!!! great sandwiches as well. Also Bouchon at the TWC is nice - one of the best grilled cheese and tomato soups around town. If you want quick and simple - Le Pain Quotidien is right near where you will be...(I know it's not unique to NYC but it's super convenient) ----- Cafe Ronda Le Pain Quotidien |

cheap eats tour of greenwich/ west village--ideas? Hi there! I did a cheap eats food tour last summer through greenwich to east village - http://www.yummyinthecity.com/2008/08/cheap-eats-in-city-recipe-for-great-fri.html I went to : A. Kati Roll basically i went with some friends and we ordered just enough at each place for each of us to get a couple of bites - ended up being around $15 -20 a person (depends on how many places you hit and with how many people) but it's a great way to try lots of diff foods. And anyhow - the first couple bites of anything are the best!! |
Very random brunch observation Yep for the most part brunch is sat and sunday in NYC - except some places like Jane only have sunday brunch - i.e., includes the cocktail! I would just check with places beforehand - sometimes the drink is only included on sundays.. (after 12pm) |
Do you guys really like Momofuku Milk Bar? Agreed - great summary Jane!~ |
Best inventive sushi: Gari, Sasabune, Seki? Soto is very good as well - http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/... Went there after a meeting with David Barber at Blue Hill (Dan's brother) recommended it as a great west village neighborhood place. Otherwise I probably would have never heard of it. Not really omakase - but lots of small dishes. It's great - very inventive sushi/sashimi but super pricey so be aware. ----- |
Also Five Napkin Burger and Hells Kitchen are nice choices ----- |
Love Hell's Kitchen - upscale mexican. Also Five Napkin Burger could be a nice choice. ----- |
Best Biscuits and Gravy for Breakfast on Sun I love Stone Park Cafe too! If you want to stay in Manhattan - Good Enough to Eat has great biscuits and gravy and I also like Whym's version as well (with cheddar biscuits) ----- Whym Stone Park Cafe |

Challenge - fun dinner followed by rooftop cocktails This is also outside of your zone but the roof at Empire Hotel near Lincoln center is also really nice - drinks are probably like 230 fifth. ----- |
