Best Breakfast Monmouth County
wanted to be blow away at Toast... I was not... omelet was fine, nothing special... whole grain toast fine... coffee was great... ah, well
Best Breakfast Monmouth County
the toasted Portuguese roll, the right amount of meat to egg and cheese... maybe I should say "my favorite" since I have no actual data to prove my statement
Best Breakfast Monmouth County
Bing's Deli, Avon (maybe the best breakfast sandwiches in the county)... Chat and Nibble, Asbury Park (a little price but creative food, quality service)... Seabreeze Deli, Spring Lake Heights... (maybe the second-best breakfast sandwiches in the county)
Remington's Manasquan, NJ?
haven't been since the reno, but unless they've changed their mission Remington's stocks some of the best bourbon's in the area (and then some)... seated dinner wasn't nearly as interesting as bar food/drink.. looking fwd to the new look
Spring vegs yet?
Thanks, HilJ... tripping to DO this weekend, hope I don't miss those ramps!
Spring vegs yet?
Has anyone seen found spring ramps, rhubarb, greens, berries, etc., available yet in CNJ (esp. Monmouth)? Have a hankering for a few things...
Trinity and the Pope Asbury
Saw an ad in the TriCity with a picture of the building, fully stocked restaurant for sale (sounds like EVERYTHING included). No mention of the name of the restaurant, but that's it.
Disappointed by Nicholas
can we come with? sounds like a great plan... have a good b-day
Disappointed by Nicholas
Is there really anything stopping Nicholas or someone else from getting onto CH and posting a response? At least, if they are now aware of this issue, someone could contact Seal and try to make it right. CH is public and I would be shocked if someone from Restaurant Nicholas wasn't keeping an eye on the site on a regular basis.
Disappointed by Nicholas
Gee, and I was under the impression that Restaurant Nicholas could do no wrong. It doesn't sound like an unreasonable request, but if they saw it that way they should have immediately told you so instead of putting it off and giving you a runaround (from the sounds of it).
I've never thought that a restaurant had to honor all requests, but it certainly should do what it can and be prompt and clear with the customer with a decision.
Boardwalk Fresh Burgers and Fries coming to Red Bank
I didn't mean to use "profit" as though it meant "cheap" or "low quality." I just meant that every restaurant is concerned with profit first, regardless of their standards. Restaurants don't stay in business without profit, they're not public servants. Of course there are different standards and levels of quality, I'm not that dense. But they may be willing to lose money on one item and unwilling to give in on quality, but they make it up on others to ensure an overall profit.
I know the difference between Restaurant Nicholas and Five Guys, but both need to maintain profit first - regardless of their mission - in order to continue to do what they do. You can't deny that, can you?
Boardwalk Fresh Burgers and Fries coming to Red Bank
i don't believe Five Guys asks is you want it well done or rare, either. That's inherent of the fast food culture. They need to move with swift efficiency. I've never been to a Boardwalk and have only done Five Guys once or twice, but I think they're going for simplicity so that they can still move fast but at a few levels higher than true fast food chains.
By the way, profit is the highest priority for ANY restaurant, whether it's a braised lamb and polenta or a triple-burger bomber with fries. You know this.

getting the feeling this is going to be Blu@New Brunswick, which is not a bad thing
Old Middletown Pathmark site - wassup?
Yeah, like that one. I highly doubt that it will be a Wegmans since there is already one in Ocean and Marlboro (they don't seem interested in market saturation). Still curious what might be happening there if it's still a food-related property.
I'd raise a hand for a Restaurant Depot, but I hear tell that there will be one in Neptune/Tinton Falls on Rt. 66 very soon.
Old Middletown Pathmark site - wassup?
Was driving on Rt. 35 in Middletown (Monmouth Cty) and saw plenty of activity. Rumors abound that a Wegmans is planned, but there is no info on that company's website about a new store in Middletown. Anyone have info? Thanks.
Daryl wine bar really reopening v2
I gotcha... was just wondering if he'll really put his fingerprint on it or just act as an owner with another chef running the show...
Slow poached hen egg at Nicholas
JerZ... you make a fair point and in no way am I railing against Nicholas or trying to force people to boycott the dish... but I just can't seem to get past the terms "poached egg" and "$60" in the same sentence
now, if you're the one buying... haha!
Slow poached hen egg at Nicholas
I'm the taste/quality/technique/execution is amazing here, but... $60 FOR A POACHED EGG WITH TRUFFLES?! EXCUSE ME?!
sorry, can't get behind it
John Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen
I didn't mean any disrespect, but I have a feeling a lot of people want to go there right now for the feel-good celebrity aspect, not because they can't afford it... that will fade, I'm sure
John Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen
I hate to sound too cynical, but I think once the buzz dies down and the fortunate ones who want to feel good and give back get tired of going, there will be more opportunities for the rest of the community to enjoy it.
Looking for Ploughman's Lunch/Hunter-style Dinner in CNJ
You get the drift. We're not interested in a super high-end version of the above, just something traditional in a pub-bar-rustic comfortable setting. I don't want to say it, but a "gastropub" could be the keyword here. I can't drive all the way to The Bear Cafe in upstate NY for another month, so I'm looking here, without much luck.
Thanks all.
Vivas in Belmar
doesn't look good.. the place was massive and never filled... not surprised but still feel bad for the chef and the staff... maybe he needs a small space and better focus
Vivas in Belmar
drove by last night about 9:30... granted a little late, but the place was as you described... at least if it had been a slow night, someone would have been in there cleaning up, etc.... I don't know anything, but I have a feeling these are not good signs
Manasquan/Wall area: roadside farm stands?
Matt's over Smith's for produce in my book (but Smith's is great for other things Matt's doesn't have like baked goods, etc)... there are also two or three along Lakewood-Farmingdale Rd (Rt. 547) heading towards Lakewood south of 195.
Jersey Shore Food - Manasquan Area (moved from Manhattan board)
Drew's Market is an excellent butcher/specialties on Rt. 71 in Spring Lake Heights, though if you want something like brisket you may have to call a day or two ahead... check out the "butter steak," which I believe is cut from the top round, soft as butter (get it?) and needs just a few minutes on a hot grill
