Chocolate and Sea Salt Recipes

Also -- LOVE Love love Chocolove's Dark Chocolate with Almonds and Salt. It's in like a camel colored wrapper. Even better than Lindt's, I find. But both are favorites!

Best Wine Bar that also serves good food in NYC?

I LOVE Vai, great food, wonderful ambiance and beautiful decor. I'm also a huge Uva fan. I also like the good food (simple) at Fig and Olive. Also, SanctuaryT in SoHo area has great food and lots of wine (and tea) for more of a ladies afternoon wine fix.

Rustic Italian

and I'll 4th it. Went there for a date and we were so utterly amazed with the food and service. So cozy, too! Don't let the neighborhood turn you back!

Best Burger

I just had the grass-fed Meetinghouse Burger at The Meetinghouse in Bedford Village. Not sure what it used to be like -- they just got a new chef I hear -- but this was super tasty! Cheese, crispy onions, brioche bun. Not like Napa & Co, but in good resto-starved Bedford, I'll eat this any night!

Best French bistro in NYC??

I just went to Le Bateau Ivre earlier this week and was shocked and so surprised at what a hidden gem this is! Lovely host, sat quickly. The location is off the main drag on East 51st, but was packed with so many people at the tables you knew this was a secret spot.

I had the croque madame and it was the best I've ever had. Definitely more a bistro than a brasserie, but it is oh so so good. Check it out!!!

Like Napa & Co, but not Napa

I was initially interested in Market when it first opened, but it's really disappointing me these days. I absolutely LOVE Napa...and Rebecca's is really truly an amazing experience, and she herself is divine. Grace Lamb is also warm and gracious at Harvest Supper, and I recently had a terrific meal there. Homestead has been consistent I think over the past 10 years, but is definitely a more traditional, buttoned up formal dining experience. Has anyone been to Splash recently?

Bistro Bonne Nuit in New Canaan has lovely food, and a quaint and quiet atmosphere...

It really depends on what kind of food you want, atmosphere (romance? sound levels?), and price point.

Reccomendations for Lunch in Federal Hil or Thayer Street Tomorrow

I really like Mediterraneo on Federal Hill. There are a bunch of italian options. You must go into the italian markets (Tony's Colonial!!! Venda Ravioli!!!) further up the street on the right, and of course the bakery - Pastiche!!!

I've been wanting to try Pane e Vino for a while now...

Wanted to know the Best and Worst Restaurants of Greenwich, Ct?

I keep forgetting about Morello - it is the sister resto to a GREAT place in NYC (A Voce). Also, don't forget Solaia...they have a wonderful reasonable winelist, and excellent bolognese and meatball dishes!!!

Asian-wise, I used to go to Asiana (they had this dish with tuna and soba noodles, yum). Also Tengda in Greenwich near the library I feel is the best of the Tengda chain.

Birthday Dinner in Newport, Rhode Island

I'm a HUGE fan of Mamma Luisa's - comforting italian, homey. Wonderful italian food!
I would 100% recommend it, as well!

Le Pain Quotidien to Open in New Canaan

I just visited the NC LPQ shop this weekend -- have visited many of the NYC ones, but as a NC resident, sadly not the NC one yet!

I had the smoked salmon salad -- yuummmy! But having just run 9 miles, I wanted some more beets. I love my beets!

I finished my lunch with the pistachio marzipan tart. OMG! SO SO SO good! I see we have the brownie recipe above (is it a fudgy or cakey brownie? I like fudgy - like undercooked texture/brownie pudding - but I might try!), does anyone know how to request the marzipan tart recipe?

Skate Wing

I had my first skate at Nougatine. Was okay - I literally was served a whole skate wing (lots!). My only issue with it is the cat pee smell it emits (I smelled it carrying it home on the bus). I filleted one today - what's up with the spines and risk for bacterial infection?

Buying Fish In or Around New Canaan

No, never tried the beef at Scotts. I used to buy Coleman, but they changed hands/it's not the same. I try and buy only grass-fed beef, and Stewarts has Wolfe's Neck Farm...haven't checked what Scotts carries!

Fabulous apple tarts in Brooklyn (or Manhattan)?

Not sure where to get one in NYC -- but I have the recipe for a really tasty one. Lots of apple filling, and wonderful sliced apples on top with apricot glaze. Classic french style. Would that help?

Sunday Brunch in Westport, CT

Don't know of any buffet style brunches in Greenwich, but I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE brunch at Versailles on the Avenue!

A Voce

I really enjoyed A Voce there at TWC. I went recently with friends for dinner. Good food. However, I was a little surprised at how small my app portion was. I had the mushrooms with fonduta and then the pasta rags with heirloom tomatoes. VERY good pasta, but wish there were more tomatoes. Felt gypped. I definitely want to go back again and give it another try.

In the nabe, I also want to try BLT Market on CPS. Never been, but want to try. Also, heard great things about Telepan but haven't made it there yet.

Please tell me about Pret a Manger for lunch

In terms of quick, healthy, pre-made fast food in NYC, Pret is at the top of my list. Their salads are good, I LOVE their ham and swiss baguette (not sure what the magic ingredient is in there, but it's GOOD), and their carrot cake is pretty darn good for the little package. I like their sodas and yogurt parfaits, too. Oh, cookies...and muffins...

Enjoy!

Best espresso for home brewing?

I have a Silvia and am still getting to know more about her...I have the Rocky, too - what grind level are you using? I try to get it as fine as possible, without causing a clog in the grinder from the level being tooo small....

And, when you steam -- do you have the standard single hole steam spout or a 4-hole one? I am trying to perfect my steaming with this machine, and am having problems creating a whirlpool...

I buy my beans from Whole Foods - fresh ground Organic Espresso. It's convenient. But I am a fan of Counter Culture's beans!!!

Looking for a great cheese shop! FFLD/lower Westchester

They - Darien - sometimes get special cheeses around the holidays. Ask the owners (they're super friendly) if there is something specific that you want. I personally find that they have the best selection in the area. If anyone thinks otherwise, please let me know!!!

Pizza - Greenwich?

Totally second Tarry Lodge! Was there last night for pizza and had an AMAZING meal. Any pizza is great - we had the Margarita, Sausage, and Meatball pizzas...YUM!!!!

You can get take out, too. It's literally 5 minutes from Anthropologie in Greenwich...

Old Greenwich, Ct.- Where are the Good eats?

Has anyone been to Tarry Lodge recently? Going on Saturday, and am looking for recommendations. Good salads? Antipasti? Contorni? SHould I get pizza or pasta?

Thanks!

Buying Fish In or Around New Canaan

I drive to Greenwich to Bon Ton for most fish, other than salmon. Salmon, I think, is fresh and great from Scotts Corners.

For meat, I'm a grass fed girl -- so I buy Wolfe's Neck Farm from Walter Stewart's!

New to Fairfield, CT from Manhattan - your favorite restaurants?

I can help!!!
Westport - Splash, Dressing Room. Acqua for a shopping lunch. I used to go to DaPietro's -- not sure if still there, etc
Southport - PACI!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
Fairfield - used to drive their for Centro WAAAAAY back when from New Canaan. I still think it's the best branch of the chain. Oh, and Firehouse Deli....

Otherwise, agree with the above...plus, I DO love Bertucci's pizza. Carmelized onion, roasted zucchini, and fresh mozz? With pesto? YUM!
