no wait for two tonight, maybe for Japanese, in East Village?

Going with a friend to the 10th St. Baths tonight and looking for a place to go after. We both need to get home so a place with no wait would be great. One of us will be heading toward Washington Square Village so something in that direction would be great. Japanese is something we both like but we're open to other suggestions. We're not looking for upscale, but decent and quiet enough to talk.

Thanks!

4 adults and a child near the 24th st. area of the High Line for dinner? Co or something else?

Do you know if it has wine/beer (much appreciated by the adults after the high line walk!)? I can't tell from the website.

4 adults and a child near the 24th st. area of the High Line for dinner? Co or something else?

We're walking the High Line tomorrow around 5 and then will be looking for a place for dinner. Here are some of the criteria:

1. two of the people eat fish but not fowl or red meat.

2. we will have a 5 year old with us and he likes pizza, pasta, fries, hot dogs.

3. despite the 5 year old's food preferences, we want something more than just what he likes. A nice restaurant but child friendly.

4. it would be good for it to be somewhat quiet so we can talk. We'll probably get there around 6 to 6:30 so that should help.

We were thinking Co. Would that work or something else? Co doesn't seem to take reservations so a back-up idea would be good too (esp. as the 5 year old might start melting down if we have to search desperately for an alternative?

Any thoughts would be great. Thanks!

tongue or tripe dishes for lunch near the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens?

Going to an event at MoMI in Queens and would love to go for tongue or tripe after. I remember once going to a taco place that had both and was nearby but I don't remember where. Any suggestions -- Mexican or Asian or deli with tongue or tripe in walking distance would be great.

mini-quiches to go in the West Village?

They'd be for 26 kindergarden and first-grade kids, so these might be too big. Perhaps they could be cut into smaller pieces. I'll go there and check it out. Thanks. But if you (or others) have other ideas, that would be great.

mini-quiches to go in the West Village?

For a party, I need to get mini-quiches, hopefully fresh not frozen and from someone who would be open by 10 or so in the morning. I'll be at Hudson and Grove (PS3) so it would be great for it to be someplace close to that. Thanks!

child friendly but nice in Venice?

We used to live in LA but left years ago and heven't followed the LA restaurant scene that much since. We're meeting up with friends in Venice tomorrow and we'd like a nice place but we'll also have two little kids (5 and 7) so we also need kid-friendly. Would Chaya Venice work? Is it still decent in quality? Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Italian dining near the Park Plaza Hotel or, if really great, anywhere else?

Coming to Boston for a conference and a friend and I are looking for a dinner idea. He wants to do Italian. We're staying in the Back Bay at the Park Plaza Hotel so something great nearby would be perfect. But if there is something really great elsewhere that wouldn't be too long a taxi ride, we'd consider that, too.

Thanks!

cafe to sit and read for an hour near Columbia U?

I have an hour before a talk I'm going to at Columbia. I'm looking for a place to sit and read while sipping espresso and perhaps munching a nice pastry. I don't know the area at all. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

lunch close to Film Forum?

I actually live in the West Village and know a lot of those places. I was just wondering if there might be something right by Film Forum (i.e., within a very few blocks) so we don't have to rush through the meal. 'ino is certainly close and I've heard good things about it, but is there anything worthwhile right by FF?

Thanks!

lunch close to Film Forum?

Meeting a friend for a quick bite before a 1PM movie at Film Forum. Any recommendations for a lunch place? It needs to be fast but decent enough, and close enough that we could leave it in time for the film.

Thanks!

Famous Sichuan is the Real Deal

Is their "dinner" menu available at lunch time? I'd prefer to order from that than from their lunch specials as there is clearly more variety. But I worry given that they specifically call it the "Dinner" menu on their website.

Arbor (across from Film Forum)?

I'm seeing lots of films at Film Forum and noticed how crowded this place was today. I'd love to have a good lunch place before a movie. Any thoughts on this restaurant (or any suggestions of something else nearby)? I'm not looking for a sandwich kind of place but a real sitdown meal -- although not too involved or too fancy.

Indian or Japanese or spicy Chinese for lunch near MOMA?

That sounds great although I might want a sitdown place. The two Chinese sound good and I'll just have to figure out if they're going to be close enough for me.

Thanks! These are exciting suggestions that I will also store up for future occasions!

Indian or Japanese or spicy Chinese for lunch near MOMA?

I'm catching a movie at MOMA on Wed. and have about an hour before for lunch. My schedule is a bit tight so I'm looking for a place within a few blocks of MOMA. My preference would be for spicy Chinese or a good Japanese soup (but unfortunately the preference would be for it without noodles so ramens are not the best idea) or Indian food, in that order. Any suggestions?

intestine soup in K-town?

I know that lots of people on this board are not fond of Kum Gang Sang yet I am quite enamored of their intestine soup. But I'm also getting tired of the same dish over and over again. Anyone know another place that does something similar in K-town? I tried the one at Shilla and was disappointed and a place across the street from Kum Gan and two or three doors to the left. It's really convenient for me to go to that area so it would be great to have suggestions from 32nd or 33rd street.

Thanks!

Hunan Manor question

I've been following the mouth-watering discussion but had a question. Is the regular menu available at lunch or only the lunch menu? In other words, is one restricted to just a lunch menu or can other items (like the pork stomach dish that Lauhound recommended) be ordered at lunch? I have to be up that way during the daytime in the coming weeks but it's harder for me to make an evening trek.

A nice evening at a too empty 10 Downing

I've always liked 10 Downing as a neighborhood place in the West Village (admittedly, it's perhaps a bit too upscale to really count as a neighborhood place but I've always found quality-to-cost quite nice here) and after a very nice dinner the other night I am worried about it: there were only 2 or 3 tables occupied during most of the evening.

I've always liked that you can hear your companions (I'm an NYU professor and this is the kind of place we take job candidates to since we can all actually talk and not have to shout over music or other noise).

I like the space. I like the selection of draft beers. I've generally liked the food here.

With my friend the other night, we did the tasting menu (49 for 4 courses). I had beet/arugula salad, hamachi tartare, a really scrumptious pork belly, and a very nice cheese plate. Not everything was perfect (there was a little too much salt, for instance, on the side greens for the main course; our waiter didn't know the beer list well enough; my friend's steak came out close to raw and had to be sent back) but a lot of it was, I thought, really good. My companion was having both white and red wine with his various courses and the server gave him a taste of several choices before ordering. The owner had a nice chat with us and since no one had ordered a lobster roll special that evening gave us each a lobster rolll to take home in thanks for coming.

I like this place and would like it to stay around.

kid friendly near the Baltimore HIlton

Thanks! Most helpful.

kid friendly near the Baltimore HIlton

Great.
This is the sort of helpful reply I was hoping for from the start so it is great to have this. My 5 year old loves trains so taking the Light Rail sounds like a good idea. Can you tell me more about that?

kid friendly near the Baltimore HIlton

I only didn't because I've been travelling and didn't have time. Also, I think my response might have come off as grumpy. I would have responded that "a cursory search" only comes up "with tons of threads" if one uses a term like "Inner Harbor" -- which I'd never heard of. I've never been to Baltimore and know nothing about it. I am often bothered when people answer specific queries (not just mine by the way) by saying that previous posts have addressed the query. The previous posts rarely have employed the same search terms as the newer person and this is why searches often come up empty. By saying a prior search has already taken care of the question, one often preempts a new and earnest request for info from getting answered. Never having heard of "inner harbor," I could not have done a cursory search of it. Locals need to remember that outsiders may not be in the know on a locale and that's in fact why they're posting a query.

I actually did do a search on "baltimore hilton" and got nothing useful. Doing a search is not helpful at all. And the link you offered actually only sends me to page after page of chowhound recipes ( I gave up on scrolling thru this since none of it at the outset was relevant). So my original post stands and I'd still love someone to offer a helpful, concrete reply to it.

Thanks!

Going to a conference next weekend with a 5 year old along with us. 3 adults.

We will go for any kind of cuisine (although one of the adults doesn't eat meat or fowl but loves fish). Quieter rather than noisy is preferable.

The 5 year old is happy with fries, pizza, hot dog, or rice with soy.

We will have a car but will probably be too tired from the conference to contemplate driving. Walking distance would be preferable.

Thanks!

somewhat upscale restaurant with private room for 12 for dinner, preferably below 30th street

We're celebrating our family matriarch's 90th birthday and are looking for a place with a private room. She loves French food. But she's also adventurous for other cuisines. Since this is such an important event, we can splurge but don't want a really high end place (i.e., not Per Se prices but if it was $100-150 per person that would still be okay).

There will be one 5 year old with us (one reason for a private room).

Any ideas?

Chinatown offal lunch?

This is terrifically helpful. Thanks!

Chinatown offal lunch?

Looking for lunch places in C-town that serve offal -- specifically tripe or stomach or intestine. One restriction is that I am on a low-carb diet so noodle soups are low priority.

I've already tried (and really enjoyed) Amazing 66 (fried intestine, intestine with sour cabbage)
Bo Ky (intestine with sour cabbage)
Best Fuzhou (the amazing pork blood and intestine dish)

and a few others. But I'd love to know any other special places that people really like.

Thanks!!

really good tripe or tongue anywhere between East 60s and Astor Place?

I have a fairly important doctors appointment Friday morning and want to reward myself afterwards with a lunch of either of my 2 favorite items, tripe and tongue. Normally, I'd just continue past my stop (Astor Place) to Chinatown for various tripe dishes but if there is anything between my doctor's office (east 60s and Astor) that is worth the stop, I'd love to know about it. I'm not that keen on sandwiches (so deli tongue is not the priority) but a good Chinese prep of tripe would be great. I already know the Grand Sichuan preps so am looking for something else. Any ideas?

kid friendly dinner between PS3 and Washington Square Village?

It's too late for tonight but Jane is a good idea for the future. As I said in my original post, though, Bare Burger is out of the running as my son for some reason took an immediate dislike to it and acts out each time we go to it.

Thanks for the Jane idea.

kid friendly dinner between PS3 and Washington Square Village?

Picking up my 5 year old son from afterschool around 5:30 tomorrow and thinking of doing a dad-son dinner out before we go home. Our fall-back option would be something like Five Guys but I would like something that has options that are a little more upscale or varied for me.

He will be easy with fries, pizza, pasta with butter, rice with soy.

I actually am on a low carb diet for which none of those are recommended. I'd go for meat, fish, salad, Asian without noodles.

I should note that another place that in an ideal world would work is Bare Burger (where I can get a burger with lettuce wrap and and not bread) but for some reason my son can't stand that place.

Any ideas?

spicy & tasty absolute must-haves?

In follow-up to a query I recently posted about exploring Chinese restaurants in Queens, I now think I will start my exploration with S & T, which I'd already heard great things about. I will be myself so can only (reasonably) order a few items and I do want to have some of the dishes be offal (intestine and stomach). Actually, my own inclination would be to order only offal based dishes but are there other things there I should absolutely have? I don't want to miss out on something really great even if it doesn't fit my obsession for offal.
