Did you grow up eating homemade Boston Baked Beans? [moved from Boston]
During my youth, my mother made baked beans. Like clockwork, she would have the Pinto beans soaking on Friday night, even when she started working and didn't get home until 11:30 at night. Every Saturday night we would have hot dogs and beans, and eat the beans on white bread spread with margarine. We used to joke that the Hot Dog and Bean police would bust in and haul us off if we didn't eat hot dogs and beans on Saturday night.

What did you or your Mom make when you were sick?
For upset stomachs, once danger of emesis was past, my mother would give me a jelly jar glass of flat coke, and be urged to sip it. Also, Lipton Chicken Noodle soup would be offered, fortified with additional extra-fine Pennsylvania Dutch egg noodles. If I was really lucky, she would make homemade eggnog with REAL eggs! This was long before you heard about eggs being contaminated with salmonella. I miss that eggnog!

"Dirty" recipes that are crowd pleasers
My husband's mother made a cake from graham crackers, jello, applesauce and cool whip. Mix the jello dry from the package into the applesauce, then layer it between graham crackers until you have a good sized rectangle resembling a cake. Then frost the rectangle with cool whip. It doesn't sound like much, but it tastes really good. The crackers absorb the liquid from the jello-applesauce mixture and solidify. You can use different flavors/colors of jello and alternate the layers. Theoretically, you could use sugar-free or low fat ingredients to make it better for you.
Where can I find good fresh pumpkins near Boston?
Thanks 1adam12 and Allstonian! Here's the link to the recipe post: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/817637
H Mart [Not] Closed!
Karl S, where did you hear about H Mart moving? Do you think they're moving to the strip with Market Basket? I live in the area and didn't hear anything about this, although that doesn't mean it's not happening.

Would be interested in seeing your pumpkin curry recipe if you'd care to share.
Wegmans to Open on Sunday, 16 October
Those are decent prices, for the most part, which surprises me. Are those regular prices or loss leaders?
Nut-Free Pesto
DON'T have your girlfriend try a few as a test. That's an experiment best carried out in a doctor's office.
What to do with 4 cans of evaporated milk?
Here's a fudge (penuche, really) recipe that uses evaporated milk. However, to use up the amount you have, you'd make enough for a football team:

This is my go-to recipe for fudge, from the yellow Gourmet cookbook. You could add flavors to it if you wanted, such as stirring in some peanut butter when you mix it at the end. I like to make this to give as Christmas presents.
Looking for some spicy recipes for GROUND TURKEY burgers this summer!
This is my favorite turkey burger recipe:

If you would like it spicier, you could add some hot sauce or finely chop some jalapenos to add to the meat.
Do you have a recipe that works so well that you have no interest in trying another?
Mamachef, I would love to have your trash curry recipe, if you can stand to post another one. Maybe you need to write your own cookbook!

Morel season is starting!!
I had no idea there were Morels in our neck of the woods. Tells you what I know. And there's a stump of an old apple tree in my yard!
ISO Lowell picnic spot
Just make sure you get to Hong Cuc early enough. I was by there late one afternoon and they were out of sandwiches, which I take to mean that they were out of bread. Actually, it was more like 6 o'clock IIRC, so I'm sure you'll be there much sooner.
Hungry 13 year old boy on the loose after school
My current teenaged eating machine likes to make nachos after school, which are easy for him to make himself using the microwave. A great thing about nachos is that all kinds of things can be put on them in addition to cheese and salsa. Recent examples from my house include refried beans, leftover taco meat or leftover meatloaf cut into chunks.
ISO Lowell picnic spot
I haven't been up there for a while, but there used to be a little shaded park with benches on Shattuck Street next to where the trolleys park. According to Google maps, it's across from Life Alive and the quilt museum. Not exactly a view of the water, but close to downtown.
Once you do your comparision, please share the results of your research! You should definitely check out Hong Cuc Sandwich Shop for banh mi, which isn't far from this little park I mentioned. It's next to the textile museum, down the first driveway on the right on Fletcher Street.

New, larger, Burlington Market Basket is coming
That is fabulous news! Right now I can practically guarantee that I'll have a nervous breakdown if I go into that store, it's so cramped and crowded. I hope they reconfigure the entrance to the parking lot from the Middlesex Turnpike. The newest MBs have been putting in "Market's Kitchen" which prepares sandwiches and other take out items. Maybe they'll put in some seating, hence the offering of free Wi-Fi, so they can compete with HMart's food court, if the town lets them.
Cheap yet good cuts of meat
I made this last Sunday using that recipe which was featured in Cook's Illustrated magazine a couple years ago. It was absolutely delicious. My husband couldn't stop raving about it. We had the leftovers for sandwiches the next night, too. Best of all, I got the roast on sale for $2.99 a pound!
H-Mart Burlington!!!
I live in Burlington and get Chinese Spaghetti Factory dumplings there on a regular basis. They have several different kinds, including chicken and shrimp in addition to the standard pork. China Merchandise is across from Burlington High School.
Help me kill pears
I just want to give a shout out to galleygirl's pear tart recipe. It's delicious and simple. It lasts about ten seconds when I make it. Wish I could make it right now!
Your favorite Korean cookbook, please!
Thanks for reporting back! It's good to know that they had all three books. I like how you solved the problem of which book to get! Next time I'm down there I'll check them out!
Your favorite Korean cookbook, please!
PinchOfSalt, let us know what you found at the Bookfair. I live near there and would like to check out their Korean cookbooks, also. They have a big selection because they run the Jessica's Biscuit cookbook store website.
H-Mart?
They should have made the seating area bigger. I stood in a long line to get food at the Korean place. We had to put our trays on the stacks of sushi rice and eat standing up. I hope once the furor dies down it will be adequate seating, but I doubt it. Wouldn't surprise me if the town restricted the amount of seating they could have. Fortunately, I live in town, so I can go back during the week when it's (in theory) less busy.
H-Mart?
We went last night and parked behind Market Basket. It's best if you take a left before the Bugaboo Creek or whatever restaurant that is and drive behind the building to avoid the traffic in front. I hope MB puts up with people parking there. The H Mart lot is big, but it may not be big enough to handle capacity.
Asian supermarket H Mart coming to Burlington
I was by the site of H Mart a couple of days ago. No activity going on there that I could see.
Leftover Meatloaf
Chili--Yes! One of my standard reincarnations for meatloaf is chili. It's really good. Or homemade spaghetti sauce, since, as PattiCakes says, it's a meatball on steroids. .
That is, if it isn't consumed via sandwich.
