Is There Such A Thing As GOOD Beef Jerky?

I wish I could type this in very small, pale print - like whispering.....
My dad wanted beef jerky in a hurry. I googled around and read that the Wal-Mart Great Value Peppered was actually pretty good. Bought it. Tried it. I'm not really a beef jerky fan, but we thought it was not bad. I'd say it fits the bill as readily available.

DeLucca's Italian Grill and Pizzeria - Columbia, SC

Wellll..... the honeymoon may be over. The last sandwich I had was the one with sliced granny smith apples - I cant remember what they call it. The sparse apple slices were nearly translucent they were so thin and it was so overloaded with cheese, I could have chewed on it all afternoon. I've been looking at their new menu but nothing calls out to me. Anyone tried something off the new menu?

Carrowinds (or nearby) food

Thanks Lynn - I'll keep your suggestions in mind for future roller coaster extravaganzas! I was there on the 18th and after looking around could not bring myself to eat there - I just survived on a huge coke. HOWEVER, as luck would have it, I got a call from friends to join them at Sun Ming in Irmo, SC where the chef was preparing ginger scallion crab with their fresh crabs they were bringing from the beach. Wow, what a great day; minimal to no lines at Carrowinds and a knock-out dinner!

Carrowinds (or nearby) food

I cringe at having to eat there, but I'm stopping in on the way home to ride coasters for a few hours. I might can wait to eat outside the park on the way home (south on 77) Any suggestions?

Outer Banks Anyone?

I'd like to mention Blue Moon Beach Grill in Nags Head and Food Dudes Kitchen in Kill Devil Hills. I wasn't impressed with Baseknights Lone Cedar - geared to masses IMHO. Loved Roadside Grill in Duck and Blue Point oyster stew made me swoon. Got several steamed shrimp & oyster baskets at Sugar Shack. Kill Devil Grill was super as well.

dry roasting sunflower seeds

I do this all the time in a dry frying pan and they turn out dry and I drizzle them with Braggs aminos, sesame, or such while still hot. This last batch suprised me though. The seeds got very oily as they heated up and remained that way until they cooled completely. What was that? Is that normal?

Mojito's - Columbia, SC

What a delight to find a good cuban sandwich in Columbia! Nice and moist with that perfect bread. The small resto itself has a delightfully bright, airy, colorful interior. And oh how I wish I had tried the avacado pie! Will deffinately return to try that and more! In the vista on Gervais Street near Park St. I think my bill was $10 for the sandwich and a small side of slaw, ice water.

I did go and I had the oyster stew. It was the richest oyster stew I've ever had. Plentiful oysters and made with half & half and heavy cream & a bit of sherry and pieces of bacon. Whew! I also had the key lime pie It was an individual tart size with a good bottom crust. Velvety texture that could have had a touch more flavor, served with raspberry sauce and whipped cream that was a nice compliment.

What did you have? I'm thinking of the oyster stew for lunch.

I was in Duck on Monday & saw that on their sign - thanks! I'll go back up there. Food Dudes didn't make my tastebuds sing out like I wanted. I had fish tacos that were just OK.

DeLucca's Italian Grill and Pizzeria - Columbia, SC

I stopped in for lunch and had the chicken lasagna. t was the gooey kind and tasty and a nice size portion. I do like my sauce a bit spicer. Busylunch crowd and a friendly waitress. Chatted with some regulars who were happily eating sandwiches that did look quite good. I too would like to check out their pizza. I'm happy to see it DeLuccas there since Pie II didn't make it.

I'll be staying in Nag's Head the last 2 weeks. If they are open, I plan on

Blue Moon Beach Grill
Mama Kwan's
Roadside Grill (Duck)
Kill Devil Grill
The Sugar Shack
Food Dude's

Any suggestions to add to the list? Last year I wasn't impressed with Lone Cedar at Whalebone Junction. Sam & Omies isn't open in January. Otherwise...all ideas are welcome!

taco trucks in Columbia SC?

I was there today for the first time! It's just a little way past Faraway Dr. on the left going towards Percival Rd. $1.50 each. I had 4 - chicken, beef, spicy pork, lingua. All were distinctly different in manner of seasoning and very tasty. They are served with slices of cucumber and radishes and a fresh lime wedge. I sat at the picnic table under the carport awning structure with a plastic squeeze bottle of green hot sauce, a mexican soda of some sort and napkins. All that was missing was a couple skinny stray dogs and a chicken or two scratching around. ; ) Don't miss out!

Dinner for 50 in Columbia, SC

n2s, just to throw out an idea... but with no knowledge, there are a couple places near the lake - Jasmine House, and a place next to it, and a place on Corley Mill Road whose name escapes me as well. I don't know if they cater but maybe you could call the Lake Murray Visitor's Center and get some info from them?

n2s, I put in a vote for you to give it a go ; - )

Waltz Fish Shack - Treasure Island

I love this place! Wowed once again on my yearly visit. Florida pink shrimp app was perfectly beer-steamed with a light spicy seasoning with a roumelade dipping sauce. The blackened grouper was wonderfully peppered. I love his vinegarette slaw with raisins (and was that crunch raw noodles?), scallions and almonds, and his key lime pie makes me swoon!

How to Eat Vegetarian in Columbia, South Carolina

You can get good vegetarian at Miyo's as well.

14 Carat on Hwy 378 in Lexington has produce and is 30% off on Thursday afternoons from 2:30-5:30. Local leggs and some made-in-house things that often include vegan dishes in the fridge section near the deli.

What about Tabouli? I had a tasty vegetarian meal there early this year.

If you are talking about Lamb's Bread on Hampton St., it is long gone. I thought it was good vegan.

Looking for great food in Columbia, SC

Feel like sushi? Inakaya is good and is about a block out of your way on St. Andrews Rd. near I26 W

If you feel up to a little authentic Mexican, Taqueria Jalesco is more or less across the street in Ashland Park shopping center where Ava D's used to be MANY moons ago. Their tortilla soup is wonderful!
