BEST DONUTS, BETWEEN WEST HO AND WEST LA?
Looking for the best raised donuts/soufganiot this side of town...dough that is light and airy, without the greasy taste, and the correct proportion of glaze (if its glazed). Loved the dough at Krispy Kreme, but too much glaze (sugar: dough ratio was off). Also searching for jelly filled. I usually go to the old standard: Bob's Coffee and Donuts, but last I had one, it had a little bit of that grease taste. Used to get these amazing donuts at work (high, fluffy, just enough glaze), but the guy who used to bring them from Placentia, OC, is now in jail. Oh well...
Disappointing lunch at Anisette
I agree with you as for the service. And as for the food, I found it variable. We have been there twice, once for Saturday night dinner and once for Sunday morning breakfast. Although we enjoyed our dinner meal (and the butter is to die for), the dinner service left alot to be desired. Initially we thought it was slow due to the packed place on a weekend night...but at breakfast... we were one of 3 tables taken...and after an eternity, my hot beverage came luke warm (which I detest). Also, although I asked for things on the side for my son's meal it came with all of the stuff on top (which made it inedible for him).They did replace it with a new order (but we considered just leaving it be due to the long wait)... Also, I was really excited that a true viennoiserie (a place that makes good pastries, like croissants) was here in LA and was similarly disappointed: the pain au chocolat was very greasy and heavy and the pain au lait tasted like day old bread. But, I guess if you are in the mood for oysters or seafood, I hear the bar is a great place to sit.

Searching for a supperclub for dad's 80th birthday
My father loves live entertainment...used to be a big fan of Vegas and loves all things Cuban or Mexican. We are planning his 80th birthday dinner and are looking for a place that serves good food with live entertainment. We would like to steer away from the usual Russian restaurants, or salsa clubs that have lessons (although quite fit, don't think dad will be salsaing)...Any suggestions for places in LA?
Mother-in-law's birthday in the Valley
Looking for a breakfast place to go with the family (kids included) this weekend in The Valley (Studio city to Encino) that is open relatively early (breakfast, not brunch) to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. Trying to avoid places like IHOP(great pancakes, but no atmosphere) or Twains or Jerry's (yuk).

I was wondering if there is a place (that I haven't tried yet) that serves a good afternoon tea on the weekend (great food and tea) on the westside that isn't part of a hotel? I have been to most of the major hotels around (except for Casa Del Mar, which now doesn't serve afternoon tea) as well as places such as CHADO, Paddington's,Clementine's, Huntington Library, etc. Has anyone been to the Pacific Dining Car for tea?
Good Breakfast in Beverly Hills...not at a hotel and not $40????
Walters is open only on Saturdays: Great bakery (shnecken, pecan rolls,etc.), great prices, waffles sometimes taste of baking powder/soda, bad coffee.
The Farm: reasonably good consistent food, maybe a little pricey.
Porta Via
Across the street from Porta Via is a south american restaurant (name escapes me: Insomnia or something like that)
Jack & Jill: ugh
Urth cafe: Good "poached" (more like baked) eggs, good fruit salad, great coffee.
Il Fornaio: great bread, great coffee, service unpredictable
Le Pain Q: kinda pricey, service unpredictable, doesn't warm up their croissants (cold pain au chocolat, ugh)
If you venture a little eastwards: IHOP: great value, the best fluffiest pancakes, they even do crepes. Doughboys: very original, great savory breakfasts, good vibe (go early). Bread bar: ugh. Service unpredictable, pricey for bread, savory stuff mediocre. Clafoutis: great croissants (they will even warm them for you, not in the microwave, so that they are crispy on the outside, and the chocolate oozes from the inside), good savory things (omlets include potato au gratin).
Clementine's is open only on Saturdays.

How is the dinner at BLD? I have only heard about the place for breakfast or lunch.

Moustache Cafe (if it is still in Westwood). Just go for souffle, and skip the dinner.

You want the best tortas? Just go a little more east to Valley Blvd (near Soto): King Torta (not to be confused with King Taco). Now my best kept secret is out!
Monday night birthday dinner for at least 7 people
I am looking for a place with great food that can accomodate at least 7 people. Loved Hatfield's and wanted to repeat my experience with my closest friends, except they can only accomodate up to 6. Don't want to travel east of La Brea or west of Bundy.

You are correct; I was in a hurry when first writing: I should have typed "BelgiaN" (slip of the finger). Thanks for the Solvang tip. Haven't had a chance to go to the HH Center...will try. Sherman's coffee shop in Palm Springs has a tasty, although not quite as authentic, waffle.

I long for a great, melt-in-your-mouth, waffle...the kind that compels you to detour you off your trip to Antwerp, just to stop at some corner goffre stand, (as in Lille or some other small town in Belgium)to eat plain or dipped in chocolate. I remember the days when a good, crisp light belgium waffle was easy to be had...at (now don't laugh) the Old World restaurants. Too often I am disappointed by a soggy, cold, too-much-baking-powder kind of waffle. Short of going overseas, is there such a thing around here?

My husband and I are stopping over in London for 2 nights before we head off to Paris in November. He has never been (and my only trip was years ago), so we are nubies to the city. We will be staying near the south kensington tube station. Aside from the usual sightseeing, we are looking for good food: best bang for your buck kinda thing...as well as the best "high tea" (good food). I have been researching the website thus far and have become dazed and confused with the plethora of choices. Can anyone narrow it down for us? Thanks in advance.
Help! Need Toddler-Friendly Westside Dining
Mishima is always a crowd pleaser...they have a special childrens meal in a cute stacked box that my kids love, there are lots of families with small kids, and they have pretty quick service. Magic Carpet is another great option. I agree that K 'n D's food leaves alot to be desired. CPK is pretty kid friendly. Dinner is a tough time of the day for little ones (knowing from experience).

Walters on the Go (used to be Walters), which is on Canon Dr., just north of Wilshire. Coffee shop type of food, great bang for your buck, with the best shnecken around (or if you prefer, pecal rolls).
Also, on 3rd, just east of La Cienega: Mishima, for Japanese "fast food" or Chado (the tea room) with the most extensive tea list and sandwiches that are simple but delish.
