Chowdown at Mingalaba in Burlingame

It was great having lunch with everyone! I'm glad we ordered from the regular menu, everything was delicious! My favorites were the tea leaf salad and the Moo Hing Nga soup.

Santa is Moving

It's 12/1 today, is it really open?

Homemade Udon at NamiNami

Thanks for the report! I wonder if they offer that for lunch?

Rihab's Bakery update

I passed by today for lunch - got chicken shawerma, chicken turnover and Filipino breakfast (served all day) Adobosilog. Pork adobo was shredded and I could definitely taste the vinegar and bay leaf; however I think he was heavy handed on the salt (at least for me). He didn't have garlic rice today but it also came with 2 sunny side up eggs, rice and tomato/onion relish.

Rihab's Bakery update

Thank you for the correction...it is indeed Good Bites Cafe...I guess I drove by too fast to remember! I will have to stop by today and check out the rice plates.

Rihab's Bakery update

I passed by this morning and I think the owner changed the name of the bakery to Tastybites Cafe now?

Terrific Dinner at Shalizaar San Mateo

I passed by today on the way to work, has anyone been to the new location?

Cannoli Alert--Romolo's Vacation Time Coming Soon!

They're open! I had to pass by after lunch at Yuzu and bought a regular cannoli for my dessert.

Terrific Dinner at Shalizaar San Mateo

On my way to work this morning I noticed that Shalizaar was a newly remodeled building in Belmont on El Camino. I drove by too fast to realize that this might be where Shalizaar is moving/has moved. Anyone have any information on this?

East Bay Hounds; anyone been to Noodle Therapy?

Thanks for letting me know...my friend emailed me and told me it was Noodle Therapy!

East Bay Hounds; anyone been to Noodle Therapy?

My friend told me that a new noodle place has opened up in Oakland, I haven't found any reviews for it but hopefully someone has had an experience that they can share.

Banh Mi at Linh's Sandwich - San Mateo

Thanks for the report I am definitely going to stop by this week and check it out. I've been craving Banh Mi lately and this will do the trick.

cooking or food clubs?

Try Craigslist, my friend found a listing for a cooking club there.

Report: Joy Restaurant Chowdown

Thanks for the pics PekoePeony! Your pictures definitely loooked better than mine. It was wonderful meeting 'hounds and we survived the warm temperature in the restaurant.

The pot stickers, always a favorite of mine, were nice and crispy on the bottom. Someone suggested that it was because of cornstarch?

I especially liked the Clay pot lion's head, meat was tender and the the dipping sauce complimented the meat wonderfully.

Everything I tried I would definitely order again - I was secretly glad that we didn't order the stinky tofu!

Fraiche Yogurt, Palo Alto - It's NEW -like Pinkberry?

I went today during lunch and Fraiche does not disappoint. They had 2 flavors, natural and chocolate and I had them give me a small with 1/2 natural and 1/2 chocolate with shaved chocolate and blueberry toppings. It was delicious! The yogurt was creamy - the natural reminded me of Harmony yogurt with a slight tanginess and the chocolate was also very good. I normally don't like chocolate yogurt/ice cream because it tastes chalky (IMO) but the chocolate yogurt was nice and chocolately without being too sweet.

Noodle Shop, San Mateo - it's new, anyone try it?

I'm thinking it's a matter of time before they take credit cards, probably another 2-3 weeks or so, that's what happened with Blue Sky Cafe.

I can't wait to try this place out this week!

Cannoli Alert--Romolo's Vacation Time Coming Soon!

I passed by with my coworked and made sure we had our fill of cannolis before they close for their vacation. I'll be sure to mark my calendar for their return.

Harmony Organic Frozen Yogurt (San Carlos)--Awesome!

I passed by yesterday after eating at Speederia Pizza. I'm not so much of a dessert person (I find everything too sweet) and tried the small (only 150 calories) with blueberry topping.

The yogurt was creamy and dense and not as sweet as other "fro-yo" places I've tried. Nick, the owner, was kind enough to sit and talk with me about his product - freshly made every day organic 1% milk and toppings are 1/2 organic.

Since I work nearby, I will definitely go back and try all the other toppings.

French Laundry Review with Pictures

Thank you for the review - great pictures BTW. I admire your friend's tenacity for trying to secure a reservation but as luck would have it Ed Keller was there to save the day. This reminds me I need to make my 1 year in advance reservation for FL. :)

4/18 Chowdown @ Everyday Beijing in San Mateo

Thanks for organizing this Eugene! I had a great time getting to know fellow Chowhounders as well as eating good food.

I liked the cucumber salad - it was simple and refreshing. The Jing Dong pork cake was also good which was like scallion pancakes but with pieces of pork in betwen the layers. I also liked the Beijing bean sauce noodles with pork (zha jian mien), the sauce was nice and light, not drowing in sauce like some places. My favorite dish was the fish dumplings.

I was really surprised at how cheap the meal was....I look forward to the next Chowdown at EB!

Chowhound Dinner Review - Zen Pennisula 4/15

It was great to meet fellow Chowhounders at my first Chowdown. I was grateful for kindred spirits who understood my need to photograph EVERY dish and didn't roll their eyes when I whipped out the camera.

I agree with PekoePeony, the steamed crab legs had a bit too much garlic and the flavor of the crab was almost lost.

I was underwhelmed with the orange pork chops - they had 6-8 big pieces for a table of 12 which didn't make much sense to me. They were also too sweet - I was expecting this to be a lunch special with rice or something.

Overall I liked the dinner, I don't think I will order the same things next time but I'm glad that I got to try fresh Alaskan King Crab.
