prepared vegetarian entree downtown?

Hi- I'm looking to pick up a nice prepared veggie entree for 12-15 people something to along with the thanksgiving turkey!- Quiche, torta, veggie tart ....something along those lines. All the Best would have what I am looking for- but I am looking for somewhere closer to downtown, or somewhere that delivers. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks!

quiet spot for drinks and snacks west queen west

oh thanks all- I forgot to check back after the first couple of days when there was no response.
tinto is the right kind of space- but a little further west than I would like. Was hoping for walking distance from Queen and shaw area. Where is cafe taste?
any other cafe type places that you can think of...i'd like it to be a place with wine ideally, but i suppose quiet is more important for this occasion....
thanks!

quiet spot for drinks and snacks west queen west

Hi
I am looking for a quiet spot to go for drinks and snacks on a Thursday evening in West Queen West/King West/Dundas West area. Should be a place that can accommodate around 5-8 people, for an informal book club/drinks occasion.

Any suggestions appreciated- day of week flexible if thurs is just too popular.....

thanks!

HEEEEELP - Need a chocolate souffle fast!

i seem to remember George having one on their menu, but that was some time ago- may need to check if they still serve it....

Hi- does anyone have a source for butter tart squares and/or lemon squares in the downtown toronto area? i am willing to travel as far west as etobicoke if need be.....
thanks very much!

new to the area...good sushi @ queen/bathurst?

there's a great place on king just east of strachan- sorry, the name escapes me at the moment....i think there are numbers in it.
It is a tiny place, no real city area, but the sushi is excellent!

Christmas cookie- ingredient substition help

Hi!

I am making these cookies http://www.northpole.com/Kitchen/Cook... which call for mint flavoured semi-sweet chocolate chips. I can't find mint flavour chips, and instead have purchased semi-sweet chocolate chips and mint extract. Can anyone advise how much extract would be advisable to add?

thanks very much !

New Year's Eve in Fort Lauderdale or area

excellent points! I was trying not to be overly specific to encourage responses...
none of the below are requirements, but they are things we would enjoy:

vegetarian food
tasting menu
outside dining
champagne at midnight
live music- preferably jazz or motown/soul

thanks for your response!

New Year's Eve in Fort Lauderdale or area

I was wondering if anyone could recommend something fun for my boyfriend and I to do on New Year's eve. We will be staying in Fort Lauderdale, but would also consider going somewhere within 1-2 hours drive. We aren't really into the club/south beach kind of scene, and would be looking for somewhere that we could have a nice dinner and fun- with people around our age group. We are in our early thirties....ordinarily we would go to a concert, or have dinner with a group of friends at a nice restaurant, but we are going to be in Florida this year.... I realize this is a pretty vague request, but any thought or ideas would be most appreciated!

good macarons, seriously.

went to sweet escape a few months back on reading original post- macarons were in bad shape- stale, flavourless etc.
I was there this weekend, first thing on a sunday morning, the lemon macaron was absolutely melt in the mouth, chewy divine. exactly the right texture and flavour. the only thing that was off was appearance really- they were a bit fat and chunky looking- not the delicate thinness of the laduree. but the taste was excellent- best i have had locally...i will go back! (well, i guess i went back after the first bad experience, so that isn't exactly a convincing statement is it?) :)

upscale Italian lunch within a 10 minute walk of the MTCC?

reading your subject line, my first thought was Tutti Matti....but Bravi might just fall within a ten minute walk, depending on how fast you walk...

mushroom and polenta pot pie query

I case you are interested, scuzzo, I made this last night, and although it would have been more beautiful if the polenta rose, as I am sure it would has if baked immediately, this recipe was very delicious. An excellent vegetarian entree!

thanks for you advice.

mushroom and polenta pot pie query

Hello! I am making this recipe:
http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/m...
for a family dinner tonight. My question is whether I can make the potpie in advance, and instead of baking immediately, wait approx. 2 hours and bake it at my relatives house. I thought this would be better than baking in advance then reheating(thinking this might dry out the polenta) Does anyone have any thoughts on this? It would be most appreciated!

Thank you!

last minute pre theatre drinks recommendations?

i was thinking monsoon- have only been there for dinner- is it the sort of place you could go for drinks and snacks do you think?

thanks so much- also, does anyone know if you can go to cucina on duncan for drinks only?

last minute pre theatre drinks recommendations?

Hi- I am going to see the Sound of Music tonight with some girlfriends- any recommendations on where to go for pre theatre drinks and nibblies, as close to the theatre as possible? (somewhere other than the king street spots between john and peter that is)

thanks!

Weekend Brunch for 8-10, in west end?

i find Czehozki's always has lots of room for brunch, and it is very good... (maybe it is timing though - we usually go for brunch around 1:30 or so....)

great spot for lunch- downtown toronto?

great- thanks. I was only looking at Caren's menu, where it says lunch m-f 12-5. I didn't notice the huge hours on the main page that clearly say it is open on saturday.....duh.

thanks!

great spot for lunch- downtown toronto?

thanks for the suggestions! Caren's looks great, but it seems to not be open for lunch on saturday (thanks for the website too JamieK). I like the idea of the JK at the Gardiner in theory, but after looking at the menu, I think it might be a little, shall i say chi chi, for my sister(but i will have to make a trip soon!)

I think the Gallery Grill is also closed on sat...

any other ideas?? thanks so much!

great spot for lunch- downtown toronto?

Hi all- my sister is coming to town this weekend for a birthday lunch. I would like to take her someplace great, but not too fancy, for a fun and interesting lunch...
She is not really a foodie at all- so I would like to concentrate on somewhere with a really interesting vibe, and good food. Any kind of food, except not Thai or sushi- since we have done that alot in the past. something like Mildred Pierce maybe...too bad the new resto is not open yet!

Somewhere in Queen west/ossington or Kensington market or even the yorkville area would be great (since we will be in those neighbourhoods anyway).

this very vague request doesn't really deserve a response but my mind is a bit of a blank at the moment....any suggestions welcome. price is not an issue, but i don't want the atmosphere to be too upscale.

good macarons, seriously.

oh can this be true!? I will have to find out this weekend. I, like you, buy them everywhere with a small amount of optimism, always disappointed. The latest disappointment was at Thuet bakery in Liberty village....they looked perfect, and my hopes were raised, but they were dry, crumbly and somewhat tasteless.

looking forward to a taste test this weekend. thanks for the tip!

drinks on college, close to clinton

thanks! we actually ended up on the patio at Teatro, which was quite lovely.
Re dinner at sidecar, i was very underwhelmed!

drinks on college, close to clinton

Hi- any last minute suggestions for a place to go for drinks before dinner tonight with a couple of girlfriends? due to the weather, we would like it to be as close to dinner locale (sidecar) as possible... not too picky as we only plan on staying for an hour, but ideally it would have a cocktail menu, wine by the glass and relatively quiet atmosphere....

thanks!

Lentils de Puy....

i've purchased them at Per Se, that fine foods store on queen west, near bathurst.
