Eatless in Seattle

Ok, so the pun is a bit old, ok way old, but I am traveling to Seattle for the very time this weekend and am looking for great food in the downtown area or places easily accessible by public transport. I'm not picky, wait I am. I plan to eat and shop my way through downtown so any suggestions in either catagory is welcomed. Thanks.

Rubenesque Sandwich R&D Kitchen - Lunch Yesterday

Although the Rubenesque was very good, I find it way over priced.I mean if I am paying $17 for a sadwich I expect some french fries. I also expect that my french fries fill up the whole cup, not have paper in the bottom of the cup and fries on top of it. Who are they trying to fool. It upsets me when restaurantuers treat customer so condescendingly.

trader Joe's new chicken Pot Pie

Happy to report that I had it this Saturday. Perfect for the rainy weather. You are right, there was a lot of chicken, maybe a little too much for me, but the best thing about it was the pastry crust, so yummy!

trader Joe's new chicken Pot Pie

So I was at the CC Trader Joe's the other night and I saw a family size Chicken Pot Pie in the refrigerated section. Has anyone tried this yet? It looks and feels pretty heavy. The picture looks really good too.

Trader Joe's culture

I would have to agree with this poster, I have 4 TJ within a 2 mile radius of my house and usually try to go once a week. If you have problems at your locale, you should speak to the management. They are usually very helpful and apologetic. My TJ takes their customer complaint very seriously. Overall I think TJ's as a corporation is very customer service oriented.

Turkey Meatballs (moved from L.A. board)

FRESH, don't care for the frozen ones. I got them from the La Brea and Fairfax TJ. Have not eaten yet but will this weekend. It says "family recipe", wondering who's family?

Most influential restaurant

Hello Foodies! I am taking clients to dinner next week and am looking for a restaurant that reflects the ever changing taste of comsumers. We hoping to go somewhere new, inspiring and exciting. I love Comme CA and Fraiche, but they are so French. Is that the cuisine of the month in LA? I'd love to get some suggestions. We are looking to find the next big thing in the culinary world.

Affordable restaurant near LA Music Center?

Caffe Capris
2547 Hyperion Ave
SilverLake, CA 90027

It's a great Italian place, no corkage fee so you can bring your own wine. The food was great and service is very friendly. Generous pasta and great beet salad. Highly recommended. Under $ 25/pp

ISO eatery in Glendale

I came across a 10 best Restaurant list from Details magazine that was linked by Yahoo last week but can't seem to find that darn list anywhere now. Anyhow there was mention of a restaurant in Glendale that had an amazing menu and was very reasonably priced. Did anyone else see that article and take notice of the restaurant?

I love Alejo on Lincoln in Venice. Great food but don't plan on making out with your boyfriend afterward. No corkage fee either!

Has anyone tried any of the new-ish places on Pico between LaBrea and LaCienega?

It's not on Pico and it's not new, but it is good. There's an El Salvadorean restaurant on Venice and Redondo that has great pupusas! It's inside a shady shopping center, but the restaurant is clean and has an slight charm to it.

Moving to Hollywood Sunday - Where will I shop?

For everyday things, Fresh and easy on Hollywood and Sycmore in the shopping center with the gym (forgot which one). Jon's on La Brea and Fountain is great for all things Middle Eastern. Thai town is a few miles away on Hollywood and Western. So many little markets like Bangluck on Hollywood Blvd. Little Armenia is just a few blocks away, also on Sunset and Western (?) It's close to the Home Depot on Sunset. I think your closest TJ is on La Brea and 3rd. I don't think you'll be walking to any of these places but it's worth the drive.

Best Burgers in Los Angeles

I prefer the Counter over Father's Office just because they don't let kids in at their CC location. At the Counter get the 1/2 & 1/2 it's half sweet potato fries and half fried onion strings! There's also Barney's Gourmet Burgers. I am predispositioned to places that serve sweet potato fries! Skip the onion rings at Barney's, you only get four rings. What ever you do do not go to the Apple Pan! Don't listen to what they say, the burgers are slathered with ketchup to overcompensate for the lack of taste and quality.

Popovers

I bought a King size non-stick popover pan from BB&B that seems to be working out but am still trying to figure out how to make them lighter and airier. Also trying to prevent deflation, any other suggestions? I too am using the Fannie Farmer recipe.

dim sum in L.A.

I always go to CBS on North Main or is it North Spring? Anyhow, it's the best in Chinatown if you're looking for the overall experience. The staff is pretty rude but not nears as rude as Ocean or Empress. Some of the menu items were pretty good too like the noodles.

Any good fish tacos in LA??

If you're on the westside there's a small taco place (sorry can't remember the name) in Santa Monica on Main street near Ocean Park Blvd. They have the crispy fried fish tacos and they are pretty authentic. Rubios Tacos is always a good quick fix. Marisco De Reyes in Montebello on Whittier Blvd is great if you're in that part of town.
