any cuisine, will be staying downtown but have a car. No fine dining. Thanks!
3 meals montreal
i'll be in montreal wednesday and thursday. need recs for dinner, breakfast and lunch. will eat anything. also, any good asian markets?
really good burger burlington vt
If you are into greasy burgers i think i've found one of the best in a surprising place. The Shopping Bag on North st in Burlington VT grinds their own beef and cooks them to order. They have a pretty nice butcher section in the back, too.
vietnamese vermont
Can anyone recommend a good vietnamese place within 50 miles of burlington vt? I am especially craving raw beef salad...
mount joy pa
going to be in mount joy for two weeks. anything around there i should check out? restaurant, farmers market, etc
best lunch and dinner boston next weekend
Thanks for the recs. We loved Boston. We had lunch at Parish Cafe and it was delightful, thought the potato salad was a little bland.
best lunch and dinner boston next weekend
I was thinking under 20 p/p lunch 50 for dinner. We love Vietnamese, Mexican, Indian, and, yeah pizza and burgers.
best lunch and dinner boston next weekend
2 lunches and two dinners in the boston area, no fine dining as we are on a budget. also, good coffee!
Open letter to Philly's small restos: where do you get off?
lately i've been eating at ethnic restaurants for the original posters reasons. It seems like every new restaurant is identical and overpriced. i wouldnt mind paying big bucks if the food was exciting or fresh, but everything seems so gimmicky.
might move to boston
more like i wouldn't move if there was no good food. we were both chefs for 15 yrs so we tend to pick towns based on restaurants.
might move to boston
thinking of moving to boston from philly in the spring. food is my main influence in a move. we are addicted to vietnamese, malaysian, and indian. looking for good recs on both restaurants and grocery stores. also, are there good farmers markets, and maybe some nice mexican markets?
any other things you think we should know would be appreciated
Stop complaining about no food diversity in Philly
DiBruno Bros also has the big store in Rittenhouse.
Stop complaining about no food diversity in Philly
chicken pot pie(with home made noodles, not crust)apple dumplings, cabbage rolls, corn fritters, and chow chow are always the most popular things
Stop complaining about no food diversity in Philly
I've cooked around the country for years. Everywhere I have been I make cheesesteaks, pierogies, amish food...people go nuts for it.
We'll be moving to Seattle soon and while I'll miss my friends and family, it's saying goodbye to Reading Market and good old PA diner food that breaks my heart.
Umai?
Japanese and sushi byob on the corner of Brandywine @ 22nd st. in Philly. I'm hoping they do well, it seems like a good location but nothing lasts long there.
Umai?
Has anyone tried Umai in the art museum area yet? I've been waiting ages for them to open, and now I haven't had a chance to go.
Marrakesh
It's between $20-30. Call ahead, they have been closed for a two-month vacation and I'm not sure when they are reopening.
For Xplanted New Yorkers - pizza that tastes like pizza
Since trying Angelino's, I never order anything else for delivery. The only place I have found in Philly that uses garlic seasoning and parmesan.
I haven't tried Dolce Carini, might have to stop this afternoon.
Love that Brisket
I solve this problem by dragging my boyfriend along and making him share a pork and a brisket. I dream about these sandwiches.
what products do you buy from the asian market...
Try a book called The Asian Grocery Store Demystified by Linda Bladholm. Helps figure out what some odd things are, and what they are used for.
Eeek! Mouse-proofing my pantry?
I keep everything in jars. Don't bother trying to plug up holes, they can get in from places you wouldn't even imagine.
I've read that bounce dryer sheets repel them, but I haven't tried it, as my cats do pretty well.
The End of Summer...Your BEST Summer Dish?
I could live off this! Nothing sadder than the end of tomato season
this may be opening a can of worms... ;-)
I use Madhur Jaffrey's World Vegetarian religiously, and i am far from vegetarian. Really informative, recipes from around the world, and a good basis for cooking with more unusual grains spices, etc.
I like most of the james peterson books for beginners, step-by-step guides to everything from veggies and sauce to fish fabrication. They have great photo guides, too, so you can see what your supposed to be doing.
Some of my favorite books, though, are the small ring-bound ones published by community groups. I have several from around the country, and find alot of recipes that can easily be updated to use fresher ingredients, but the cakes and breads tend to be delightful.
Good Delivery in Art Museum Area
Angelos has great pizza and cheesesteaks, good marinara, though I haven't tried any of their italian food.
Opinions- Best creole mustard?
Zatarain's rules, cooked down there for years and it was the only mustard anyone used.
authentic cuban food philly
Looking for a good cuban place, no stephen starr stuff, please.
hatch green chili in philadelphia
Does anyone know where I can buy hatch green chili in the philly/eastern pa area? Or restaurants that serve it?
