Favorite Marinara Sauce in a Jar

Yes, it's frozen and still available in a number of grocery stores, and as far as I know they still sell fresh ravioli in their San Francisco store. But I miss the golden grain marinara..I read your post about adding lemon juice to marinara, I will definitely try that, thanks =)

Favorite Marinara Sauce in a Jar

Jasatt, I agree, golden grain marinara sauce was the best! We used to have it over Lucca ravioli all the time when I was a kid..I sure wish I could find the recipe

ThermoWorks - Super Fast Thermapen - worth the money?

I love mine, I got the original model marked down when the waterproof model came out. It is one of the things that is always on my counter. I use it when searing steaks, cooking pork and chicken & my tri-tip comes out perfectly medium rare now -every time! It's one of those things that make me wonder how I got by without it

Over the Range Microvave vs. recirculating hood.

I just got a Panasonic OTR microwave with a 420CFM fan and I love it, it is model # NNSD297SR. I got it for $352 here: http://www.thenerds.net/PANASONIC.110... but their site doesn't give any description of it, here it is on ABT for a lot more $$ but at least this offers a picture and specs: http://www.abt.com/product/40891/Pana...

Best cookware set for college apartment

A few years ago I got my son a decent set of Stainless Steel cookware with glass lids at Walmart, if I remember correctly it was around $50, he loved it and used it more than I thought he would

Please help me find some decent cookware!

I swore off non-stick until my husband bought me a non-stick 13" Berndes covered saute pan. The non-stick surface is very durable, and I have never had a pan that heats so evenly. After a few months of use, it has replaced the other 2 or 3 skillets /saute pans that I formerly used and for the most part stays on top of my range. I use it for searing, deglazing, cooking potstickers, stew, you name it- unless what I am cooking is way to small to justify using this pan, it's my first choice for most of my cooking: http://cast-aluminum.berndes-cookware...

Help! Electrolux or GE Cafe Gas Range

I wonder if it was discontinued? I went to 3 stores, and all of the gas models only had a warming drawer, I even looked at the manual and for the gas mode & the dual fuel, the gas range manual had instructions on how to turn on/off the 'warmer drawer', while for the dual fuel it referred to it as the lower oven and had directions for using it

Help! Electrolux or GE Cafe Gas Range

thanks for the comprehensive review, we are getting the Electrolux, it will be here Monday. We are getting the the dual fuel with the bottom oven/warmer. It looks like a quality appliance and I simply fell in love with the oven racks. I was torn between the all gas and the dual fuel, but the dual fuel was the only model that had the bottom drawer that will function as an oven as well as a warming drawer. I didn't get the Electrolux over the range microwave, it doesn't have a turntable and I can't fathom how it can work well without one, we are getting a panasonic microwave, we decided on that because it has a 420 CFM fan rather than the typical 300 CFM.

Buying a New Range - Bosch or Jenn-Air

My 10 year old Jenn-Air had the same problem, I could not use a large pot on the rear burners or the controller would go out. It was replaced at least 4 times under warranty then another 7 or 8 times under extended warranty. Twice I had to fight with the warranty company because they tried to cancel my warranty by stating that I was abusing the range by using a large pot on a rear burner after being advised that it would damage the range...it was unreal, I finally gave it away and got a new range. I spoke to a Sears Tech who said that Jenn-Air has been aware of this issue for years and they refuse to address the problem and have continued to make ranges with the same design flaw

Help! Electrolux or GE Cafe Gas Range

I have a 2 year old Kenmore Elite range that I have been very happy with, it has the bridge burner & a warming drawer. The model has been discontinued. A service tech came to my house and physically damaged the range, so Sears is giving me a credit for a new range, I can get any range that Sears sells & pay the $$ difference over $2400. I have looked at both the GE Cafe & the Electrolux. I need to let Sears know which range I want within a fairly short time frame, so any comments would be appreciated.

I love the Electrolux oven racks, the oven racks on the GE Cafe I looked at didn't pull out or push back in very easily, but it might have been the way it was assembled.

The features I really need are- a high power burner 17btu or more, a large range top that will accommodate at least a 13" pan and a large stockpot at the same time. I don't care much for using a griddle on the range, I have a separate electric grill, but the 5th burner on the GE Cafe seems that it might be useful for making gravy from drippings in a roasting pan. I need a warming drawer of some type (variable temperature preferred) and a good gas oven that will cook evenly. I bake at least twice a week, and cook all meals from scratch, so whatever range I get will get a serious workout.

The other concern that I have is that the only place I have for a microwave is over the range, and if possible I would like to replace my old one with one of the same brand as the range I get, I heard that the Electrolux microwave sucks really bad, but I know nothing about the GE Cafe over range microwave.

Thanks in advance.

Nut Tree Tamale Recipe (Mrs. Tait's Chicken Tamale) [moved from San Francisco Bay area board]

I don't know when they were made with chicken, I worked at the Nut Tree in the late 70's and they were made with Turkey. Those tamales were the bomb- I'm going to try the recipe, but I'm not sure how you get corn husks big enough to make them the size that they were at the Nut Tree, most tamale recipes that I have found make tamales that look like appetizers, you would need a dozen for a meal

BREAD MACHINE RECOMMENDATIONS, PLEASE!!

I got a Zojirushi about 6 months ago, my husband teased me that it would be yet another 'appliance' that ends up unused under the counter. Was he ever wrong...I use it at least 3 times a week, but I rarely use it to 'bake' bread. Instead I use it for kneading and rising, then I finish the bread in the oven. I buy bread flour from Costco for 27 cents a pound (50 pound bag) and the stuff I make with that thing even amazes me- pizza dough, cinnamon rolls, artisan breads, rolls, hamburger buns, ciabatta. I even use it to knead the dough for my pasta machine. The Zoji has earned a prominent place on my countertop and I am not sure how I got by for so long without it!

Hand cranked pasta machines: Atlas vs Imperia vs VillaWare

Thanks, at least I know it's not me, and it's not broken lol. The front cutter (fettucine I guess) is terrific and I have made lasagna without the attachment just by rolling it out, then cutting it by hand- that works too, too bad about the spaghetti - I tried again today and I let the dough dry until it was like a piece of leather and the thing still cut with every 2 strands stuck together. They do have US support (sort of) the # is 1-718-386-0896. They told me a few thing to try and said if it didn't work to send it back to them and they would look at it, I'm not sure if I will send it back or just give up on the idea of making spaghetti

Hand cranked pasta machines: Atlas vs Imperia vs VillaWare

I have a question for an Atlas 150 user. I just got my Atlas 150 "wellness" it is supposed to cut round spaghetti. No matter how dry the dough, it always cuts so that two strands are stuck together- I guess they don't have any US based support, so I emailed them but was just wondering if anyone else has this problem?
