Bayou Bakery -- NOLA in NOVA? -- Courthouse (Arlington)

I have been 3 times for lunch. The muffaletta, creole pilgrim, and veg head are all quality sandwiches. The muffaletta is warmed, if that makes a difference for you. The gumbo is good, but not great imho. My favorite is the butternut squash soup.

Anything edible in Manassas / Centreville?

I have always enjoyed Panino in Manassas. It has been a few years, though, since I have been.

Dinner near Nissan Pavilion

If I had to go to Nissan Pavilion, I would probably stop for dinner at Panino in Manassas. The food is good, the location not so much. Breakout your Mapquest and take the backroads to the pavilion and avoid a mess o' traffic.

Cowboy Cafe

They have a smoker in the back at Lee Highway. They smoke brisket as well.

Cowboy Cafe

Yes. In-house. They also cure their own meats and make their own sausages.

Cowboy Cafe

FYI, the upgraded dinner menu is still going strong, with the specials changing often. The St. Louis cut ribs may be among the best in Arlington, certainly better than anything at Rocklands, imho.

Crab Prices

$54/dozen for mediums (the largest they had available) at the Quarterdeck in Arlington last Sunday. I always buy the largest available and would have gladly paid up for jumbos.

Georgetown Bagelry on M Street Closed!!! Where do I get Great NY-style Bagels, now?

I agree about the Miami Burger, with one caveat: there are no capers. The last time I asked (admittedly at least 6 months ago) I was told you do not stock capers. Is this an non-traditional ingredient?

Choosing a Nemacolin restaurant

Does anyone have a recommendation for good places to eat with children outside the gates of Nemacolin? I have been there several times, but have never found anything that looked appealing.

What's good at Heidelberg Bakery?

I am rather partial to the Laugenstange with Cheese and Bacon.

http://www.heidelbergbakery.com/?q=no...

Take it home and warm it up in the oven for 10 or 15 minutes or so @ 250 degrees. Outstanding.

Also, it is one of the few places I know that carry Löwensenf hot mustard. If you like mustard and have never tried this, you really need to pick up a jar.

It sounds like you are describing the Capital Bagel Bakery in the Bradlee Shopping Center (3610 King Street). IMO these are among the best bagels in the area. Also, the Georgetown Bagelry on River Road in Montgomery County (owned by the original owwners of the Georgetown store) still produces a quality product. A lot of folks like Brooklyn Bagels at Court House in Arlington. I think they let the dough rise too much and the outer shell is too soft.

Metro 29 or Bob and Edith's?

That is too bad. Our experiences for breakfast at Metro 29 have been very gound. The link sausages are outstanding. I like to get in and out before 8:30/9:00 because the place can get very crowded. Perhaps that may have contributed to your experience.

The Cowboy Cafe up the road a piece does a pretty good casual brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday has had live jazz music as of late. The place got some new owners a few months back, has a new expanded menu, and is undergoing internal renovations this week. It is fairly affordable to boot.

Whole Fish, DC

I believe Dino has a whole fish special daily, or at least they used to have it. There is also one on the online menu:

Orata 26
Whole Fish - Venetian favorite: pan roasted Mediterranean sea bream (similar to red snapper), lemon, olio, capers, herbs & spices

Go to Lebanese Taverna

No. The Market is at 4400 Old Dominion Drive in Arlington near the Lee Heights shopping center. We use it more as a grocery store and cook it up at home. A great easy meal during the work week.

Try Best Equipment at the Capital City Market. The D.C Farmers Market is also there so you may have a shot at fresh herbs also.

Anchor Steam Beer

I'll eat my hat if you cannot get this at the Total Wiine store in McLean.

While you are in the neighborhood, you should stop by the Organic Butcher to pick up some fine cuts of meat to match with your beer. Sounds perfect.

Ray's the Classics or something like it

Ray's the Classics has reopened. I believe the only difference being that they no longer serve liquor. It is beer and wine only.

Opinions wanted! Places to go in Rockville

I went to lunch today at Black Market Bistro and can personally vouch for the following items:

Cornmeal Crusted Oysters w/ house made tarter sauce
Marinated Grilled Squid Salad
Poached Pear Tart

I was told by a dining companion that the Hardwood Grilled Pork Tenderloin sandwich was pretty darn good. Looked good.

I know that Great Country Farms delivers nearby in Arlington. You might want to see if they also go the extra mile or two into the District.

Essy's Carriage House Restaurant -- Arlington -- Lee Hwy at N. Quincy St.

I have never been in, but I drive by it regularly. Mostly seems to cater to the senior citizen crowd by the looks of the folks I mostly see entering - not that there is anything wrong with that. It has the appearance of a place that was probably the best in the area about 20 years ago, but which time has left behind.
