Source for klobasa?

Good question. Polish recommendations I can provide you easily. Czech and Slovika are unique and, unfortunately, I do not have recommendations for you.

But, have tried Bobacks and Polana? Both are polish. Bobacks is a sausage emporium, they have a huge sausage selection. located near Midway Airport.

Also, one more recommendation is Gene's Sausage Shop (Lincoln Square). I don't know if they carry klobasa but they would seem to be the type of people who can order it for you or, perhaps, help you locate it.

In Chicago for long weekend...

Here are four options i enjoy - three are in gold coast and are a leisurely 10 minute walk from your hotel.

Cafe des Architectes: Located in Sofitel hotel. A tad pricey but I think worth every penny – a great value. French press coffee is exceptional. Great pastries. Very good service. I really enjoy it there.

The Original Pancake House – Chain restaurant, but is franchised and with some owners producing a great product. Plain and simple, the Pancakes are amazing. Try the 49’ers or Swedish if you like them thin. They also have rich apple pancake. The other items are not too shabby either. Good coffee. On weekends, can be very long lines at gold coast location. No reservations

Feast - Gold Coast - traditional and unique breakfast items. outdoor seating.

C-House Restaurant (few blocks from your hotel)- last time i was there, nine months ago, the food was great but the place was DEAD.

Cheese Carts?

I'm looking for suggetsions.

I looking for a restaurant that has a cheese cart i can order from for desert. I want to choose a few cheeses from a range of options; i also want all the fixings like nuts, fruits, preserves, etc.

Does anybody remember when Caliterra in the Wyndham hotel had a cheese cart? It was awesome!

Looking for Cheese Flights

Here is a playful idea. Try the brand new Whole Food store near North Ave and Clybourn. This venue has a new concept, that maybe only one other Whole Foods in the U.S. has; the concept is food stations where you can order food but also sit down and eat & drink too. Their website calls them mini restaurants -I think that is fairly accurate. I tried it once and sat at the seafood bar for some chowder & beer.

One of the stations is a cheese and wine bar. Read the two links below. This could be a fun little foodie detour.

Breakfast, Lunch Ideas for Chicago Trip?

I’m biased but I think you’re talking to the right guy about brunch – me. Weekend brunch is my specialty. Should research my selections below to make sure they fit what you are looking for in terms of menu items, price, and location.

Yolk: think traditional egg breakfast place but updated and with twists. They have a second location that I thought was opening any day now, not sure. Can have long wait on weekend – no reservation.
1120 S Michigan Ave (South Loop)
Chicago, IL 60605
(312) 789-9655

Bongo Room: Two locations –Have not been to Wicker Park location (shame on me) which I think may be quite different than the south loop location. South Loop has tasty, unique items. Did not wait too long to get seated at South Loop. Wicker Park may have longer wait. Don’t think they take reservations.

Sweets & Savories – very small, chef driven venue. Unique and tasty menu items. It is a Fixed price, 3-course brunch menu, but you have 5-7 main course options. Lost liquor license – no bloody marys – byob. Great value at approx $15. Food is exceptional but service is slipping. Takes reservations.

Outdoor Private Party Venue Suggestions

I'm looking for suggestions on a venue that has a private or semi private outdoor area. please feel free to make suggestions, add comments, or ask questions.

I need to throw an engagement cocktail reception for my good friend and his new bride. Date is TBD. We are looking for an outdoor venue on a Saturday. We are targeting a 5pm to 7pm window (start time is flexible). About 25-30 guests. We would like to serve Hor d’overs and let the guests pay for their own beverages.

Please exclude ultra high-end choices (like Park Hyatt or Peninsula) or tourist traps like millenium park. Upscale venues, Neighborhood resturants & bars, and non-restruants venues that can accomdate catering will be considered.

Thank you

Vermilion or Red Light?

Both are excellent choices.

Vermilion is a very unique venue. How often do you see indian-latin fusion? If you are feeling adventuresome, vermillion is your pick. If you can have a good time and appreciate food that is well thought out and prepared but may not sit well in your tasting department - vermillion is your choice.

Good luck.
