Frenchie Closing for Renovation May/June - Accurate?

Hello French Chowhounds!

I have been using your boards for a past few months to plan my honeymoon in France. Thank you for all the useful information you have provided.

I was just contacted by my concierge whose colleage walked over to Frenchie to try and obtain a reservation for us. She said that the director of the restaurant told them they were closing from May 15 through the beginning of June for renovations, but didn't have an exact re-opening date. I wasn't sure how accurate this was or if anyone else had heard of this? Just wanted to see if anyone had more insight.

"12 Bagels" Frankford and Tollway

We went a few weekends ago and they were in their soft opening stage with signs explaining that. They leave a display of bagels out in the window, but those aren't the bagels you get because we ordered everything bagels and they were out of those. The bagels were decent, with the cream cheese being less impressive. I wish they had a bigger selection of bagel types as well. The sausage kolache we got were really good, would go back for those alone.

Dallas Wedding Restaurant

Hi there!

Your wedding sounds very similar to the one my fiance and I are planning. Congrats! :)

I have done a lot of research on the local restaurants so hopefully I will be able to help you out. I would say to stay away from Hotel St. Germain because after a conversation with them, they aren't very kind to people planning small weddings. The French Room would be a wonderful choice, and I'm sure they would make it a great night for you. The only problem could be the kiddos sitting through several courses and hours of a meal. I think if you get married on a Friday night, Saturday lunch or a Sunday you will have better options for private spaces as well.

I would also recommend Stephan Pyles, he has several options for tasting menus. You could also try Bolla at the Stoneleigh Hotel, I haven't been their since David Bull left, but I have heard it is still really good, and a beautiful restaurant too.

Restaurants with private rooms that could work for your situation: Abacus, Arcodoro & Pomodoro, Bijoux, Central 214, Hibiscus & Tillman's Roadhouse. I would suggest calling the hotel and getting them breakfast for room service in the morning (if they are staying there). If they aren't staying there maybe just send along a card with a gift card for a great brunch place for them to use the next day, if they aren't leaving for a honeymoon.

I would recommend staying at the Stoneleigh Hotel which has been remodeled beautifully. I ate at Bolla recently and loved it and would recommend their Pan Seared Branzino fish as your 12th course.

I just recently ate at newly opened Rose's Cafe off 121. Their flour tortillas are pretty good and I heard that you can go up and buy a dozen for a few dollars.

Hey everyone,

My dad is coming in town for my graduation next weekend and he is a seafood vegetarian (who lives in Florida and has fresh all the time). We are looking for a great restaurant to celebrate graduation and that will be up to his standards. We will be in business casual attire, price isn't a factor and for location all of DFW would work, with a focus on Dallas and Plano area.. I have been to several of the fine dining establishments in Dallas but I wanted to go somewhere with a focus on fresh fish that is flown in daily. I am not opposed to going to a steakhouse that also has great seafood, just as long as there are several items that would work for him. I have looked into Roy's (which I loved in Austin), Oceanaire, and Chamberlains Fish Market. Any thoughts on these or other suggestions??

How to make my chocolate chip cookie recipe more healthy

Hello All,

This is my go to recipe for classic chocolate chip cookies. Its the Nestle Toll House recipe with some modifications (I use margarine instead of butter because the cookies stay soft afterward). Does anyone have any advice on how to make this more healthy (maybe whole wheat flour?) without changing the taste too much? Or maybe have a better chocolate chip cookie recipe? The only thing I won't do is sugar substitutes...

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 sticks margarine
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
3/4 a bag of semi sweet chocolate chips

Dallas Wedding Emergency! HELP!

I can't help you with anywhere with height but the country clubs around here are sometimes willing to take a last minute reception. I used to do event planning for Brookhaven Country Club and we often took last minute arrangments. Try Brookhaven, La Cima Club (might be too small), Gleneagles, Northwood.. just google country club near whatever zip code and start calling. Good luck!

Hi everyone! I am coming back to my birth city for 5 days with my family and we are staying at the doubletree downtown off Broad Street.

I haven't been there since I was 11 so needless to say I don't remember much about the food. My dad grew up there so he will be taking us to his old favorite spots for cheesesteaks, Reading Terminal Market and Merrymeade Farm for ice cream but I wanted to know if anyone had any local suggestions within walking distance of hotel.

All suggestions are welcome, our ages range from 11-52 so nothing like La Croix or La Bec Fin for this trip, something a little more casual with vegetarian or seafood options would be great.

Also, any cafe or bakerys around there? Texas does not know how to do a sticky bun nor do they have Tasty Kakes down here so I need to get in some carby goodness on this trip!

DFW Rehearsal Dinner Near Southlake

Have you looked into any of the places in town square?

Brios is a great place and they have several vegetarian options and some seafood options (do they eat fish?) Brios IMO is better than Maggiano's.

There are several sushi places around there if seafood is an option (sushi sams, cowtown sushi.)

Rockfish is really casual (peanut shells on the ground) but they have a good menu, the location is small so it depends on the number in your party.
