Thanksgiving Catering/take-out
Thanks! I would think this would be a popular thread, but I guess real foodies cook on T-day.
Thanksgiving Catering/take-out
We're a small group of 5 adults and one small child and are looking for good Thanksgiving catering options. Preferably restaurants, not places like Fresh Direct. Any thought would be greatly appreciated. I've run down the list that NY Magazine publishes, but was hoping for some good first-hand Chowhounder advice! Many thanks!
Reasonably priced dinner for 10-12 people in Manhattan?
I'm looking for a great, low-key option for a festive dinner party for between 10-12 people that will cost about $40 per person. We are happy to just book a table or get a private room with a fixed menu. Any suggestions? Many thanks!
Looking for an attractive, festive vegetarian INDIAN restaurant
Yes, we are thinking on the upscale side for an occasion! Entrees could be in the 25-30 range.

Where to buy Florida Avocados?
Thanks! Anyone happen to see any in Brooklyn by any chance?
How can I find Florida Avocados in New York City
Thanks! I had no idea of all the different kinds of avocados, but these Floridian ones were amazing. So flavorful. I'm obsessed. Maybe I can order them online. Thx again.
Where to buy Florida Avocados?
I just got back from Miami and bought the most glorious avocados from a farmer's market in South Beach. Nothing like the tiny Haas varieties available in NYC stores. Any thoughts on where I can buy some in NYC? My baby daughter loves them! Thank you!!!

Party Venue for 30-40 people including children in Brooklyn Heights/Bococa?
We're looking to have casual party around lunch time on a Saturday or Sunday for about 30-40 people in September or October, some of whom will be kids. Sadly, Frankies is booked. We're hoping for a pretty venue, perhaps a private room in a restaurant? Or an event space where we could hire a caterer? If you have any thoughts in the Bococa/Brooklyn Heights please let me know.
Many thanks!

Mangosteens?
Hi. Do you know if it's possible to get Mangoteens in NYC at all, and if so where, and whether it's possible to get them this time of year? I have a very special 74th Birthday request that I'm trying to accommodate. Thanks!
Nyonya/Malaysian Cookbook
Hi there, i'm looking for recommendations for a Malaysian, preferably Nyonya, cookbook. Any suggestions? Thanks!
"sting" beans

"sting" beans
So, I've been stymied by my CSA once again. Any thoughts on what to do with tomorrow's shipment of fresh sting beans? I'm clueless. Thanks!
Food Tour Guide???
Can anyone recommend a "food tour guide" for Queens or outer Brooklyn? My husband and I are interested in checking out some of the more gringo-free establishments in each of these boroughs and thought that probably the best way to do it is to go with someone in the know. I don't think we are looking for a large group tour, but rather a one-on-one type experience. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Tatsoi for dinner?
Sounds like a good plan. What about in salads? Can you prepare it uncooked?
Tatsoi for dinner?
I will be getting some tatsoi in my CSA shipment this week. Perhaps I should be embarrassed to admit that I've never heard of such vegetable. Any recipes or preparation tips would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!
Red Currants
Any thoughts on how to incorporate fresh red currants with dinner (not dessert)? Bittman has an interesting recipe for a rice pilaf with red currants, but i haven't come across much else that is savory. I've been stymied by my CSA once again!!!
Thanks

They are delicious, but I'm not having any luck finding them here in the states. Very sad. :(

Canned Fish from Lisbon (Conserveira de Lisboa)
Recently we went to Lisbon and stopped in to Conserveira de Lisboa, a well-known shop that specializes in canned sardines, tuna, cod, etc. We bought a few cans to bring home. They are delicious--but almost gone. :( Does anyone know where to, or if it's possible to, get this product in the states, preferably near NYC? Thanks!!!
Canned Fish--Lisbon (Conserveira de Lisboa)
Thanks! On a lark, I checked Despana a couple of weeks ago, but as suspected, no canned fish from Portugal. I'm at a loss. Sad.
