Business lunch in the vicinity of Irvine Spectrum?
It's not loud at lunch time. I regularly have casual meets there.
Business lunch in the vicinity of Irvine Spectrum?
Not sure how Fukada would fit the OPs requirements. Yes, the noodles are fresh and the soup is good, but the food is hardly remarkable and it is certainly not conducive to conversation or even a relaxed lunch.
The Spectrum is all about the chains, but I have to say that Yardhouse is consistently good and they have a nice patio if the weather is fine.
Recs for huntington beach restaurant
If your budget is $40-50 (food only), then try Spark Woodfire Grill in downtown Huntington Beach. If the weather is decent, sit out on the patio for a wonderful view of PCH and the ocean.
I've always had wonderful meals here, great service and, if drinking is allowed, an awesome martini menu.
Christmas eve all seafood dinner favorites?
We are Italian and it is The Feast of the Seven Fishes. So, seven and only seven! Last year it was: (pic attached)
Baked Roughy
Oysters on the half shell
shrimp fried, and boiled
fried scallop
grilled salmon
seared ahi
baked clams
Wrapping meat in plastic wrap, to oven roast
ya, cat looks real happy with that foil helmet........
Frozen Burritos
I make breakfast burritos and freeze them to take to work. I use the soft taco size of the flour tortilla, so they are smaller, slim and heat up really well in the micro in about 1 1/2 mins. I fill them with scrambled egg, cubed potatoes, crumbled sausage, cheese and a drizzle of salsa. Individually wrap in foil and toss in the freezer. I wrap them in a damp paper towel and put them on a paper plate to nuke.
I've also make and frozen bean, beef and cheese burritos.
soggy crusts
I was, in no way, implying that you SHOULD temper the chocolate. For your purposes, you could melt down a Hershey bar and paint the tart. However, Caroline said that butter would temper chocolate and that is why I commented. Dutchdot asked how I would temper chocolate and I replied. I don't what peeved Caroline off.........
soggy crusts
temper chocolate? it's about heating and cooling the chocolate to specific temperature to alter the beta crystals in the chocolate. The result is a chocolate that cools to a glossy finish and snaps when you break it... think of a milk chocolate Hershey bar...
first course, appetizer or soup?
You gotta be kidding, I would die if someone shoved a cup of soup in my hand as soon as they took my coat.
Chicken of the Sea Crab Meat
I definitely go for the fresh dungeness all the time, but it can be expensive, plus, when you get them at the Asian markets, you have to go early in the day/weekend to ensure supply. However, sometimes on a weeknight, some crab meat on a salad or in a taco would be nice and the tubs at F&E would make it super easy too.
Chicken of the Sea Crab Meat
thanks Nani!
I couldn't believe $3.99 for the claw ( I think the tub is 7 oz) but didn't want to buy without a recco. I think I will go pick some up.
Broccoli Raab in South OC market??
Broccoli Rabe is not the same as Chinese Broccoli. It is also known as Rapini and is a member of the Turnip family. My Greengrocer displays it right next to the turnips and other root vegetables and I always wondered why until I asked!
Not So. OC, but in Fountain Valley/Huntington Beach area. Try Plowboys on Warner and Magnolia. They have it fresh....but look by the turnips.
Chicken of the Sea Crab Meat
My local Fresh & Easy started carrying Chicken of the Sea crab meat. Claw meat is $3.99 a container and the lump is $7.99.
I'm thinking lump is preferable given the price.
Has anyone used these products? Is it worth it?
Would it make good crabcakes?
Other recipe suggestions?
Thanks!
Live King Crab - Little Saigon: When, Where, How Much?
thanks guys, i posted on the wrong board....this was meant to go on Los Angeles
Live King Crab - Little Saigon: When, Where, How Much?
My birthday is in November and I really want live king crab for my dinner. Is that the right time of year? I had heard cold months are when the restaurants have live crab.
I'm close to Little Saigon. Any recommendations? I've heard of places in Irvine but that crab runs around $30/lb and that the crabs are 5-7 pounds.
Does that sound right? Which is better? Little Saigon or Irvine?
Any help appreciated!

Etiquette question: Constructing your own sandwich from a breakfast combo plate
"a teen" and a boy no less, nothing is out of the question!
Market Fried Chicken Degradation
I have had the same experience with Albertsons. Their chicken used to be stellar, now always dry.
YAWN. Boneless skinless chicken breast. So uninspired. Tell me how to cook it tonight.
seriously
Suggestions for over ripe cantaloupe
Joe Ortiz *relies* on these wild yeast spores and bacteria for his starter. Give him a read sometime, he's crazy for the stuff he can pull out of the air.
Happy Hour in LB?
555 East Ocean has a very "club" feel. Good, generous pour and very nice if you want to stay for dinner
Natural Disaster Party
I've made the Earthquake cake many times. It's easy and delicious. I would also suggest a Lava Dip, which is just a melty cheese dip with tomato and hot chili peppers. Spicy!
Tip for a large take-out? (moved from Boston board)
I'm not asking for it both ways. I was responding to another's post when I said think it is stingy and mean to think that workers in a restaurant don't
deserve tips on take aways.
" I didn't dirty any dishes or table clothes nor require them to serve me. It is what it is."
You do get service when you order take away. I tip and will continue to do so. You do what you like and if you're stingy then that's your way.
Tip for a large take-out? (moved from Boston board)
wait staffs tip their colleagues which can include members of the kitchen
Key Limes, Meyer Lemons who will know?
I didn't think Key Limes and Meyer Lemons were interchangable!!
In the backyard, we have a Mexican Lime and a Meyer Lemon tree. I would never use the lemons in place of the lime.
White Chicken Chili Not Quite Right
I, too, mash some of the beans to thicken the chili.
Chicken soup for the common cold- remedy or not?
There you go! Garlic and hot peppers in your chicken broth. It works, doesn't it? Love the addition of the citrus. That would make it like Tom Yum, too.
Tip for a large take-out? (moved from Boston board)
I tip on take out as well. Whether it's a big order or just for one, someone has to take the order and get it right, the kitchen staff works the same, the cashier has to make sure the order is complete and packs it. To say that "they didn't really bring anything to the table that would suggest a tip" is just being stingy.
I don't tip 20%, but I tip at least 10%. There is one restaurant I go to where they give so much attention to their takeout order. They make sure you have the bread you would get if you were dining in, they make sure you have your little tubs of butter. They pack everything very carefully and will separate out food items so your meal doesn't end up like a casserole. They always make sure the meal is correct and will confirm everything with you as they bag it and they are always so helpful and pleasant. Don't you think that kind of service is deserving???
Chicken soup for the common cold- remedy or not?
I've always understood that chicken soup is medicinal because the nutrients and vitamins from the chicken and the chicken bones are released into the broth. Also, garlic is a great anti-toxin as is parsley. I truly believe capsaicin in chili peppers is good for congestion. So, when I make my chicken soup, I use a full head of garlic and throw in some serrano peppers.
I also like Tom Yum from my favorite Thai restaurant when I'm sick. The spicier the better.
