Coming to Downtown Delray: El Camino - Mexican Soul Food and Tequila Bar Hopefully it works out. Seems like it could be a good fit for the area. |

Palm Beach County closings 2013 Yeah noticed the same last night and actually stopped in for a drink. I don't think it would shock anyone if it did close though. Gol definitely is closed. I can see that spot getting snapped up quickly. The building is a delray landmark with a lot if history. |

TOP SUBS in SOUTH FLORIDA (Miami, Ft Lauderdale) I've always loved V&S and have found the staff to be friendly. For me it's by far the best spot around. I guess we'll agree to disagree. Would like to see your blog post on it. |

TOP SUBS in SOUTH FLORIDA (Miami, Ft Lauderdale) V&S in boca is by far the best I've found. LaSpada is popular because of the extra layer of meat around the toppings. V&S is just high quality. |

Yeah that is a curious article. Shake Shack makes a pretty tasty burger, but important?... Hmmm indeed. I would think the most important restaurants would be McDonalds, Applebees, or some of the Darden chain restaurants. If they went out of business a tens of thousands of people would be out of work. Some of these foodies like the folks at Bon Appetit take themselves way too seriously. |

BaconFest Seminole Coconut Creek Casino I thought baconfest was great. I hope they do it again next year. Dan Band was awesome and it was nice to see them in Florida as I don't think they've ever played here. Or at least not South Florida. As for the bacon most of the dishes I tried were very good with the exception of maybe 1 or 2. Also the amount of sample tickets they gave were more then enough. We left with a good chunk of them unused and had several people approach to us to try and give us there unused tickets. Another thing I liked is they didn't try to kill you with the beer prices, $6 for an aluminum pint. Of course in general a $6 pint isn't a great price, but for an event this was a steal. |

Dirt cheap (yet quality) lunch/dinner in Fort Lauderdale? Tarks in Dania Beach might fit you're requirement. It's a little south of the airport on Federal Highway. They would definitely fall into the dive category. They have really cheap but good wings and seafood. |

Pierogies in Delray, Boynton area. There is a small church just south of Hypoluxo on the west side of Military Trail called St. Herman of Alaska. They have truly great pierogies. It's a really small church so it's easy to miss. There is a food sale every Tuesday from 2-6PM. Also they have food festivals about once or twice a month. It's not really much of a festival. Really just a few people eating in a small church cafeteria. However, they have one this Saturday and Sunday from Noon - 2PM and also one on January 26 and 27th. If you go you can sign up to be on there mailing list and they'll mail you a flyer every month or so letting you know what weekends they do it. Last time I was in Cleveland my wife and I went to Sokolowskis which is well know for their pierogies. I would say the ones this little church puts are just as good. You can get them frozen to take home though I'd highly recommend getting the ones made fresh there, |

Delray Dinner In The Sky - dining pod hoisted 180 feet in the air! Good to see our property tax dollars wasted on a poorly planned stunt. |

New rumor of Trader Joe's coming to Delray at Federal HWY and Linton: "Also under consideration by the city of Delray Beach: Turning an office complex at the southeast corner of Federal Highway and Linton Boulevard into a shopping and restaurant complex known as Delray Place. Harden, the city’s manager, said the developer has indicated that the popular Trader Joe’s grocery is interested in the site — but it needs a decision fast on the land. Joe Carosella, the property’s owner, did not return a phone call seeking comment." |

New Opening Delray - Voodoo BBQ Looks like there is a new opening coming to Delray beach in February called Voodoo BBQ. It's a small chain based out of New Orleans. It's going into where Sonoma was on east Atlantic Ave, just in font of Hurricane Lounge. It seems like a good spot as the location has a surprisingly large outside area. Here are the details: http://voodoobbqfranchiseblog.com/201... They're also opening up some other South Florida locations. This could be a nice addition to the ave as there are currently no other bbq restaurants, though I've never had Voodoo BBQ so don't know much about the food. I'd be curious to hear from others who may have tried it. |

Papa's Tapas, Delray Beach - Casual Spanish-Caribbean Cuisine in Pineapple Grove I went here this weekend to grab some lunch. I got the shredded pork special which was very good. A generous portion of mojo shredded pork with a side of plantains and rice and beans. Luckily, I got take out so can't really say much about the service. Though they did bring me a glass of water while I waited at the bar. I don't believe they added this to my bill, though I didn't inspect it too closely ;-) |

Delray Dinner In The Sky - dining pod hoisted 180 feet in the air! I guess I'm too fat to be hoisted into the sky by a crane as well. Even if I was sub 225 lbs I wouldn't be interested. I'm all for paying for unique experiences, even over paying, though I don't see the appeal in this at $500. I guess if I want to have dinner in the sky overlooking Delray Beach, I'll buy a sandwich and eat on the top deck of the pineapple grove parking garage. |

Palm Beach County Openings 2012 Good to see Papas finally wrapping up. I've always wondered if these places are making lease payments while they're renovating and waiting. I would guess no based on how long they've dragged this out. Interesting to hear about Ceviche. I've been to the one in downtown Orlando and downtown St. Pete and they were both very good. Though Falcon House will be much much smaller than both those locations. I wonder if they'll take over that other house next door as well. |

Palm Beach County Openings 2012 There was a small mention of this in a new times article: http://blogs.browardpalmbeach.com/cleanplatecharlie/2012/07/union_delray_beach_candyfish_sushi.php Seems like this will be a part of Union not a completely new restaurant. Also heard about something going into the place that used to be occupied by the old new elwoods. Apparently called 3rd &3rd by chef John Paul Klein. Don't know too much about it in terms of food, opening, etc... But small a small blog reference to it here: http://blog.bestoftheroad.com/2012/07/10/best-of-the-road-freshtraveler-on-delray-beach/ If anyone has any details I'd be curious to hear them. Also looks like they started working on this project just north of Max's Harvest on 2nd: |

Has anyone had a chance to try this place yet. I'd love to hear about your experience as this place looks like it could be a real winner. It was interesting to see the grilled corn on the menu. I remember reading an article, probably on this thread, about the chef really liking and drawing inspiration from Tacos Al Carbon. When I've seen them making this at the table next to the Tacos Al Carbon truck. I had a couple of WTF moments. It starts with grilled corn with a scoop of butter to slather on, OK I'm following you so far. Then they proceed to scoop out a giant spoonful of mayonnaise to slather on. This is followed by a heavy shaking of Kraft grated parmesean cheese. Finished off with what I think is some type of chili powder and lime juice. I've thought about trying it before but something about the mayonnaise on corn thing always weirded me out. So it was interesting to see Rebel House had a take on this. Has anyone tried this before... Tacos al Carbon? Rebel House? Elsewhere? Is it gross or weird? Or am I missing out on the most amazing corn on the cob ever? |

New Chinese Restaurant opening in Boca - Phillippe's This location in Boca seems to have many failed establishments. For whatever reason nothing seems to stick. That street that runs by the bank of America building especially. I really liked Moquila when it was there, which is now The Spaniard. |
|
|
That is a shame. It sucks I had only recently discovered this place. Though I'm not exactly shocked. Their food was very good though whenever I walked by they never seemed to have too many tables filled. Hopefully something good will take its place in that location. |

Palm Beach County closings 2012 Crazy. Wasn't exactly my favorite hangout. Though it seemed fairly popular and has been around forever. It's a tough business. |

Actually I think that was the appetizer special that night. We should have ordered it. No worries though as I definitely plan on returning. |

I just tried this place last night for the first time and it was fantastic. Technically it was not my first time as I had a sandwich here for lunch about two years ago. The sandwich was fine but nothing that had me racing back. Well last night we had a wonderful dinner here. I regret passing this place by for many years. Especially since I used to live a half a block away. We didn't have any reservations and were trying to avoid all the hassle of Atlantic so we decided to give this place a shot. Our table started off with the calamari which was cooked perfectly and came with a side of marinara and pesto. The pesto was out of this world and was great to dip bread in. As for the main dishes, my wife had the veal scallopini which she said was absolutely delicious. My dad had the salmon salad which came with a generous amount of salmon which was covered in that great pesto. My mother and I had one of the nights specials. It was pretty much a combination of eggplant and chicken parm with a thin layer of ricotta cheese in between. The portion was absolutely massive and incredibly delicious to boot. I will probably get close to three meals from my leftovers alone. Honestly, the server could have been a jerk and I would have loved this place. The food was that good. Luckily this was not the case at all. The server was friendly, attentive, and very helpful. This place is an absolute gem. If you've passed it by like I have be sure to check it out. Plus it's nice to be able to go to a restaurant without having a 19 year old hostess scoff at you when you say you don't have a reservation. I can definitely see this becoming my new go to Italian place in delray. |

PASTA PRONTO FOOD TRUCK - Boca Raton This pasta pronto may serve great food for all I know. Though I find it a little suspicious when the only people posting on this are people who have only posted on this topic. |
|

That area is over near UCF. Waterford lakes is nearby but it's mostly big chain restaurants. I found this thread that might have some options. |
|

You may want to check out the Miami-fort lauderdale board. That's generally where you'll find all south Florida posts and chowhounders. With that said Delray has many great restaurants. The Delray chowhound favorite seems to be bamboo fire. It's a small mom and pop Caribbean restaurant with great food. Simply do a search on that board for bamboo fire and a ton of stuff will come up. You can also do a delray search and find pages of reviews. |

Palm Beach County Openings 2012 This place appears to be a direct 'In N Out' knock off. The menu is almost identical in style and choices. Plus the 'spread' you refer to. That's the same thing 'In N Out' calls their thousand island dressing sauce, 'spread'. I'm looking forward to this opening. 'In N Out' has been extremely slow on their eastward expansion. So with their cultish following I'm surprised no one has tried to knock them off sooner. |

That's funny I was just going to post about this. I went up there yesterday to get a hot dog and wound up getting jerk chicken and curried goat. It's really strange. My guess is the location already had some built in hot dog traffic. So they'd rather make you a hot dog and take your money rather then send you away. The Jamaican food I got was ok. It kind of reminds of Nates that used to be in delray. The meats were tasty and flavorful though lots of bones in the goat. The sides were just ok with the rice being really dry. Overall verdict is I'd go back but I'm certainly not in a rush toget back. |
|
|
That sucks. Happy I got to check it out before it went under. Though I'm not that shocked. That location in west boca was terrible. Not much traffic. Plus the clientele that shopping center attracts never seemed to be a match. Probably would have been better off a litte further south on 441. I know the smokey bones does well in that area. |

Delray Beach - Coming Soon, New Openings This Fall! Cool I had forgotten about that place. Hopefully it's good and late night. Too bad they couldn't get it open for peak season. |
|

I agree, but just because one thing is worse it doesn't make another one right. |
|
|
Of course I can't say with 100% certainty but my power of deduction is pretty strong :-) The dogs were all pretty well behaved and didn't bother me at all. It's more noticing how things have changed. |
