Baked Ice Cream Pastry Recipe?

No, the pastry surrounding the ice cream was definitely not fried. I have found many recipes for fried ice cream, but this dessert was distinctly different.

Baked Ice Cream Pastry Recipe?

My husband and I had the most amazing dessert at a restaurant and we are now obsessed with trying to recreate it. Titled "Baked Ice Cream with Cranberry Coulis", the dessert consisted of a ball of vanilla ice cream wrapped in a pastry dough lightly lined with what tasted like almond paste. The pastry was baked to a golden brown and drizzled with a cranberry sauce. The combination worked beautifully, with the ice cream just barely soft under the pastry/almond layer. Wow!! Does anyone out there have a recipe for something similar?

Help me find this baked ice cream recipe

Steamed Vegetable Dumplings?

We are recent transplants from NYC who are craving our favorite vegetable dumplings. Are there any decent places in Philadelphia (preferably in the South Philadelphia area) that make handmade vegetable dumplings?? I used to buy bags of frozen dumplings at a little stall on Grand Street in NYC and miss them immensely. Any tips are appreciated.

Mole Restaurant on Lower East Side - Who has been?

Yum! The guacamole made at the table is particularly addictive. The food shows thoughtful preparation. Portions sizes are ample and the prices are cheaper than Mercadito and Rosa Mexicano. The space is small but quaint. There are no windows that open to the street but the atmosphere is festive. It is still BYOB, but there is a deli/liquor store next door.

East Village Mexican: Sorry But I need help!

The food is very good and a much better value than Mercadito where the portions are tiny. We had a wonderful dinner the other night consisting of fresh guacamole (made at the table) and homemade chips, tacos, chicken mole, and veggie fajitas. The tortillas were warm and soft, just the way I like them. To top if off, we shared homemade Tres Leches cake and chocolate halvah cake. The service was pleasant and efficient. Keep in mind that it is still BYOB for the next week or so, but beer and wine are sold next door. Enjoy!!

Thai at Jeeb or Klong

Although I have not been to Jeeb, I can't imagine it is any worse than Klong. I had one of the most terrible dining experiences there last night. The sauces, as one person mentioned, are cloyingly sweet and the service is obnoxiously bad. Our server slammed drinks down on the table without making any eye contact. To make matters worse, the kitchen forgot my order and then brought the wrong order not once but TWICE. I finally ate the inedible dish they brought me out of sheer hunger. They then proceeded to charge me for it. Don't fall for the nice decor and cheap prices at Klong. You can find better cheap Thai restaurants that provide real service.
