Sydney pubs
have you tried Red Oak? boutique beer with staff who know what they're talking about - always has rave reviews. and their christmas cheer sells out so quickly
Hunter Valley suggestions?
Leaves and Fishes is a stylish restaurant that serves gorgeous food. Very tasty.
I've been to Iron Gate Estate (definitely recommend this, Roger only sells through his cellar door and to a few restaurants and with a background in petrochemicals he knows how to create the most amazing blends); Tallavera Grove; Tyrrells; Potters Brewery and the Hunter Valley Cheese Company - all fabulous in my opinion although I would have been happy to stay longer at the cheese co and forego the hops.

Advice for Sydney
Breakfast & Coffee suggestions:
Single Origin in Surry Hills for the coffee and bircher muesli
one of the chocolate cafes (Lindt, Max Brenner, Guylian) for the chocolatey goodness ... drool
Ripples at Milson's Point for yummy food and a spectacular view
Bakeries/patisseries:
Bourke Street Bakery usually has a line but I think the various markets around Sydney usually have a good selection
St Honore Bakery in Nth Sydney is my new home. so good.
Inexpensive lunches
Cheese - oh cheese. If you can get up to the Hunter Valley, combine your wine tour with a cheese tour and stock up. Sooo good. Otherwise I just got an email about Formaggi Ocello (in Surry Hills) yesterday, haven't been there but I plan to soon!
Pubs:
as mentioned, Red Oak and the Local Taphouse are v popular, also 4 Pines in manly has a microbrewery on site.
Cocktails:
Madame Fling Flongs in Newtown

Definitely get into some seafood - moreton bay or balmain bugs, barramundi etc, maybe a meat pie at Harry's Cafe de Wheels ..
enjoy eating your way through the city!!
Newtown, Sydney
Cicciolina - the food is great and the restaurant is named after a woman who was known for flashing during political speeches. What's not to love about that?!
Sydney - the best
Pity you didn't try the "world famous" laksa at the Old Fitzroy in Woolloomoolo! One of the best laksas in Sydney!
Sydney Burgers
Two new burger joins have just opened in Crows Nest. One is Grill'd, up towards the main end of Willoughby Rd. The other is The Counter, which is apparently the first of the chain in Australia. The burgers are HUGE but amazing. You can build your own from scratch to get your perfect burger experience or choose one of their tasty options. I had a malted vanilla milkshake with mine and although I didn't feel like eating again for daaaaays afterwards it was worth it!
