The Saratoga Winery (Saratoga Springs)

Went up to the winery last week. Very different from your normal winery. In a good way. The owners were very friendly hosts. They had a band playing on the Friday that we went with some guys making wood oven pizzas. Amazing. It was a party going on away from all the chaos in town. We took the trolly over so we made sure we were able to have a few glasses of the wine. The wines were very flavorful. We had the flight of wines to try as many as possible. This is like a hidden gem up in Saratoga. The prices were great, no charge for the entertainment, pizzas a hit. The only downfall! I wish they didn't have to close at 9pm.
Can't wait to go back for their pig roast.

Wedding at Crescent Beach Club - looking for rehearsal dinner recs nearby

We tried Angelinas on Saturday and had the worst experience of a lifetime. The waiter must of been a relative because how do you have a guy chewing gum leaning on your chair asking if you guys want to order something. We said yes if we can get a menu first to see what we want. We told them it was cold they said: "Deal with it". When we got our drinks the waiter came over and asked my friends husband if he can try his beer with a little left in the bottle as he has yet to try that one and took it away and drank it. we thought we were on hidden camera. The manager came over and asked how everything was and we told him how the service was horrible and what had happened but he just brushed it off. There is so much more about how awful this restaurant was that I will end it with this doosy. Dessert time: they just brought over a plate of assorted desserts and didn't ask us if we wanted any. We thought it was a gesture of kindness from the manager making up for the terrible night but that wasn't the case. They charged us for all of them. When we left the manager asked again "how was everything"? We told him we would never come back. His answer: O.K take care. I think a lesson in hospitality is in serious order here!

Awesome Arepas and Pupusas hit Commack!

Went to the Cantina Last night for Dinner. Good as usual. Nice to see them packing out. I was hoping this gem would stay hidden so we can have it for ourselves. Also nice to see the chef is always creating new items to the menu. We had a John dory special with pickled fennel salad and crab, cous cous and I forgot the sauce but it had a velvety citrus flavor. It was awesome. My wife had the special boneless buffalo cube. Basically it was a crunchy cube shaped chicken wing without the wing. I'm still wondering how they got it to stay like that. no hands needed for that one. The wiatress told us about a murder mystery night they are doing with a 3 course meal. Anyone ever go to one of those. It sounds cool.

Awesome Arepas and Pupusas hit Commack!

Went in for dinner on Sunday to beat the snow blues. Saw they are offering a $30 -3 course and $50 -5 course menu for New Years Eve. I don't remember everything on the menu but there was a scallop dish, Lobster quesadilla, crab and calamari salad, striped bass (don't remember what it was served with). It comes with complimentary champagne. Or was that just for the 5 course? Sounded like a pretty good deal so we will be attending just so I can have that Lobster quesadilla again. Delish.

Awesome Arepas and Pupusas hit Commack!

Good call Beans. I went for restaurant week last night as well. Loved the corn pudding. Chef said they are putting it on the menu full time. Had to try the lobster quesadilla as a second course. So tasty! Then the steak with a potato and chorizo hash, spinach and chimichuri. I can eat that all day. Last night the drink special was a beer or margarita and a shot of tequilla for $7. I'm going on NFL Sunday for the $15 combo platter (sliders, wings, quesadillas and tostones I believe) and a bucket of beers for $10.

That's probably true when a place has been in business for some time but I would venture to say it's a grand opening draw to get people in to try the food. with so many restaurnats to choose from we all look for deals. Didn't know they have a tasting menu as well. I'll be going tomorrow and will report back!

Awesome Arepas and Pupusas hit Commack!

Stopped by this New latino restaurant in Commack called Maize Cantina. Saw a post in Newsday and thought I would check it out. They serve tradional pupusas and arepas in a non traditional way. Pupusas can be served tradtional (with slaw and spicy tomato sauce) or they have others like "El Cluck" Roasted chicken chipotle hashbrowns, pickled onions, melted jack cheese. That one was very tasty. We also liked the La Mer Arepa which was stuffed with mexican shrimp, preserved tomatoes, avocado, and crsipy plantains. Their was a lot of items to choose from. The Maize de Cantina app was delicious. Chargrilled corn with chipotle lime butter, cotija cheese and cilantro. Haven't seen food like this on the Island until now. Will be going back very soon, especially since the highest price on the menu was $10.50 (skirt steak dish on pupusa end).
