Got lucky with a last minute reservation at Farmer's Apprentice.It was a month long attempt, for a couple next to us, to get dinner reservation & they are locals!
As the name suggests, their food plating have room for improvement, and if so, rename to Farmer's GOURMET, perhaps!
Having gotten that out of the way, the food and tasting experience is extraordinary.
The chef, a qualified trained engineer , produces some of the best ever taste sensation,incorporating local products.
Menu changes daily.
Read island scallops with a blend of corn sauce , Pork cheek with slivers of apples. How about ice cream dessert with cherry tomatoes.
The dishes were meant to be shared, tapas style, so we were able to try more.
It really is very good value for a relatively inexpensive dinner.
Oops, now the reservation will be even longer. Sorry locals.

I should have phrased the question better.
e.g.some winery produces better white than their red, and to narrow it further, to their different grape varietals.
The Osake Sparkling is one that I would like to try,as I have not tasted a sparkling sake before, but from the description of Osake Junmai Ginjo Genshu, it would be a better choice for those oysters from Lobsterman.
What the heck, we will get one of each (if available), as they are only 375ml each.
As you can guess,I am a novice in sake, but enthusiastic!

I hope the weather will co-operate when we get to Vancouver next week, and will be at Granville Island with GO FISH ( fish and chips) and Oyama duck, sausage, local cheese, and micro brewery sitting on the bench. Million dollar meal!

We will go as far as the wide net will cast for that food experience, and really appreciate the comments and suggestions.

We have a lunch reservation at El Cellar de Can Roca in September,2014. It is a 11 month reservation, after several month's attempt. Hope we will not be disappointed with all that effort!
Do they have a choice of tasting menu? How long will it take and do you remember the cost?

Thanks Erica for a most informative post, which will be useful in our September trip, and the search for great Iberico pig dishes, jamon de bellota, including arroz negro and paella especially in Valencia.
Are there any particular shellfish to look into ?

I had pork loin last, but notice that there are many restaurants serving" suckling pig", which definitely would be on my priority list. But I am not sure whether being "suckling pig" would mean being fed with acorn, because that is one of the claim of Iberico pigs.
What pork dish would you recommend?

We had such an outstanding pork dish in Madrid, and looking for same in BCN, or anywhere in that area.
They are Iberico pigs, and looking for a great restaurant serving pork dishes.
Any comments on La Forquilla or Pork in BCN are much appreciated.

Critique my list & need some help for Barcelona, San Sebastian, Rioja, Madrid

Mugaritz or Arzak. Had been to both. It is a hard decision. There is the Arzak tradition started by Juan Mari and together with his daughter, Elena, who is now in her own right.
Mugaritz is more avant garde. In fact Andonis Luis Aduriz was in T.O. a couple of years ago with his film, Mugaritz BSO at the AGO. He was hosted around by David Lee/Nota Bene. So he is into film as well.
In any case, if you are staying Hotel de Londres, Arzak is very much closer than Mugaritz.
You may want to consider arranged transportation to Mugaritz from SS,especially after dinner. It is WAY out in the country.
Stayed also in Marques de Rascal. It is in the middle of a vast vineyard. A miniature take on Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.
If you are there for dinner, you will miss the architecture at night.
The breakfast there is amazing. You get to slice your own iberico ham!
The dinner in the hotel is pleasant considering there is nothing else around for miles.
BTW we have reservation at El Cellar Can Roca Sept.17, after a few months of futile attempt with their 11 month booking period!

Beats having Asians on Christmas day. BTW, we are Asian foodies visiting New Orleans for the Christmas season, and would like to soak as much of the unique local flavor, as humanly possible!
We are thinking of Le Citron Bistro. Good review but rustic ambience.
What is your take on Mila?

First X'mas experience in NOLA for local atmosphere like a reveillon menu.
Managed to get reservations in R'evolution & Emeril's for Christmas season.
However most restaurants of note like Commander's Palace, Stella, Boucherie, August etc are closed on Christmas day.
Any suggestion would be very much appreciated.

Apparently Loong Yuen is a Cantonese restaurant, and I will be in Hokkien country , and thus try to get into Hokkien food, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack.
And if possible, seek out Hakka food, if available.

I am planning a trip to Xiamen early 2014, and will post my dining experience after.
Although I have not made the visit to Xiamen, I know what I like in a good o ah jian, whether in Singapore or Penang!
If that goes well, perhaps Swatow( for teowchew) and Hainan island ( is there such a dish as Hainanese chicken rice?) next.

Piemonte Restaurants

While in Piemonte, you might want to check out La Spinetta One Litre Club. It is hard to find elsewhere. Have to make an appointment prior to visiting the winery.
Osteria Francescana ( Modena) is worth a visit, and there were a couple of single diners, when we were there. Possibly foodies writing notes and taking photos of dishes.
In Parma, check out Parizzi. They have a tasting dish of different aged prosciutto. Interesting to feel and taste the difference.
Both are single diner and language friendly.
Wish I could be back again!

There is hardly any to be found,besides Nadege, in Toronto.
Those in D-B ,New York have, so far been the best, outside France and Singapore.

Will definitely attempt Priocca and Da Bardon ( for lunch). Do you think I need reservation for lunch at Da Bardon and Priocca?

Presumably there is still the opportunity to have the truffle experience in Piemonte early November. Main reason to go there for now,as it will be a first time in that region for us.Where would you suggest staying in Piemonte so that driving back after a sumptous dinner is not so demanding? We will have 3 days in the area and will follow your thread as close as possible. Thank you.

Best Mooncake in Singapore

I agree with you totally re: Subway Niche's Nyonya cakes vs Bengawan Solo, although their selection is somewhat. limited. Whatever I cannot find in Subway, I will make my way to Bengawan Solo at Takashima for the rest.
The kueh lapis from Bengawan is pretty good though. Flavourful and not too sweet!
