In search of the best Bacalao con huevos in Portugal (Lisbon/Porto)
We are returning to Portugal after many years of abscence , and one of the main reason is the incredible Bacalao con huevos (moist & perfect) that we had served in the former Ritz Carlton/Lisbon.
Any CH suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Best and Worst World Cities for Food
Erroneous, as the implication that only ,"amazing" food is found in GZ and nowhere else in China. Good cantonese cuisine is subtle and refined.
I,wholeheartedly agree that different parts of China have equally "amazing" food!
Best and Worst World Cities for Food
This is the most ERRONEOUS statement made about Chinese cuisine.
The type of food in Guanzhou is mainly cantonese. Presumably your coworker prefers cantonese.
Even so, he can find great cantonese restaurants in other Chinese cities like Shanghai, Chengdu. Too bad he missed out on the local cuisine, which are absolutely fantastic.!
Toronto Hound needing help with Michelin star 'Luncheon' selection.
Tocqueville gets our love too! Was in both at Gramercy Tavern n Tocqueville over the week.Hard to believe one can get a 3 course fine dining menu w wine pairing w each course for $42.07 in NY!
Restaurants settled! Now, need recommendations for Best French Pastry and Gourmet Food Stores!
You might want to check out Tocqueville ( One East 15th St). Walking distance from Gramercy. Fantabulous meal/service w 3 course prix fixe lunch for $25.00.Of course,we ended up paying much more, with drinks etc.
Also if you have difficulty getting reservation at Momofuku, another recent hot spot by a young and very talented korean chef, Jungsik Yim. His restaurant: JungSik, 2 Harrison St. One of the best belly pork dish created!

Hua Hin,Thailand - Any great meals besides great golf!
Great recommendation. May even consider staying at their hotel.
Hua Hin,Thailand - Any great meals besides great golf!
Enlightening! We, the golfing group, all, love deep fried seafood and chicken in restaurants. Only because we do not deep fried them at home.
Deep fried prawns, squid and fish, when done to perfection is heavenly.
Thanks for the tip re: Hua Hin a mecca for seafood in Thailand. Must have built a huge reputation to deserve the title.
Hua Hin,Thailand - Any great meals besides great golf!
Thanks for posting.Mixed review of Supratra by the Sea from Tripadvisor. However their menu seems interesting & will seriously consider.
Seems dining in various resorts may be one consideration.
Hua Hin,Thailand - Any great meals besides great golf!
Would appreciate recommendations for memorable meals in Hua Hin. Can't live on golf alone, although my golf buddies can!. Will be there for 5 days.
Whole salmon poached to impress & enjoy- help!
Not the way it turned out! Guests were too kind.I guess I am more used to having the flavour of dill, mayo & lime combo! Oh well!
Whole salmon poached to impress & enjoy- help!
Have decided to broil instead, having read John shield ( best F&W new chef 2010) recipe with cataloupe, horseradish, buttermilk . Some combination!
Whole salmon poached to impress & enjoy- help!
Would really appreciate a recipe for poached whole salmon to impress dinner guests.
Have tried the usual recipe with lemon and olive oil, and would like to try something spectacular.
Thank you.
Chinese Food for Jewish Christmas
As a Chinese origin, I can appreciate the nuance of the sign, and will forward it onwards to my Chinese friends, who will get a kick out of it, as much as I have!
Munich in Nov - Goose & Game meat
Time for a change from great sausages, pork, duck in beer hall like Der Pschorr,Spatenhaus,Cafe Glockenspiel. All excellent and highly recommended. However it is time for a change for the next couple of meals. Will resume again at Andechseram Dom , Nurnberger Bratwurst Gobckl.
Any alternative cuisine like Italian,Japanese perhaps?
Danke.
The best KL has to offer.
Would be perfect to dine in fine surropundings and have excellent dim sum as well, like in some of the H.K. restaurants.
Kuala Lumpur - Indonesian-Sundanese food at Dancing Fish
Dancing Fish is a hidden Indonesian gem with chef Nordin at the helm. Their satay ,smoked duck, grilled squid, and SAMBAL is fantastic. It ranked with Sage, and Fukuya/ Ando-san, for a gastronomic splurge in K.L.
The best KL has to offer.
Got to dine in Sage, and even though Chef Daniel was not working that evening. It was NOT a disappointment with his sous chef.
Should try Cilantro next.
3 days in Singapore - any upscale must-try restaurants?
Have you tried Rumah Perut in Penang?
Kuala Lumpur - Dinner at the Ming Room, Bangsar SC
We had a reasonably interesting set dinner for 8 over the weekend at Ming. Service was attentive, and meal was above average. However the eye opener was, when we were recommended to add an extra dish, which was hollowed out tomato, filled with scallops.
The cost of that dish alone was about 50% of the set dinner.
The next time, when a dish is recommended, asked the price first!
3 days in Singapore - any upscale must-try restaurants?
what is your take on CUT ( for that special night out for steak) and Jing for fine Chinese dining/ambience( no prison cell-like) with old friends?
3 days in Singapore - any upscale must-try restaurants?
Waku Ghin is a big disappointment, below expectation in reference to its reputation.
Had much better Perankan food in Penang than Candlenut. Nothing to rave about, although the food is tasty and well priced , but?
Have reservation in Santi for a special evening out, but there is some mixed review out there.
(will definitely keep the spot in El Cerdo-KL).
Singapore is great for hawker style food centres, but am in a bind for that special evening out.
Can anyone comment?
The best KL has to offer.
OK, we have reservation at El Cerdo for sat. Oct.22. for their suckling pig. And Santi in Singapore on 23rd Oct.
Iberico pork is one of the tastiest pork ever!
Thank you.
Best and Worst World Cities for Food
Check Montreal out. It is the most interesting city in Canada for food.
The best KL has to offer.
Many Thanks. Re: Songket, IMHO I hesitate to go to a restaurant anywhere, where live entertainment is included, esp when the focus is on good food. Am I wrong this time?
What is your take on Bijan?
Any high end Chinese? Was informed that KL has the best suckling pig in the region (?)
The best KL has to offer.
Where can we go to splurge on the best KL can offer on a weekend binge.
Best and Worst World Cities for Food
Thank you. Great take on Cantonese cuisine in KL. Seems like a fusion of Cantonese with local Malay ingredients.
Best and Worst World Cities for Food
How different is it, for Cantonese in KL as compared to HK? Presumably there are good tasting Cantonese in KL, but generally Cantonese/Chinese cuisine is assumed to be more refined and sophisticated in HK than anywhere else in Asia.
Any fine dining for Malay/Cantonese/Penang style in KL?
Best and Worst World Cities for Food
Lima- what kind of food can be expected? Fine dining or home cooking style?
.
Munich in Nov - Goose & Game meat
Thank you all so much. It would appear by consensus the places to dive into would be Spatenhaus ( great, as it would be nearby the opera house), Der Pschorr, and Andechser am Dom, and a change of cuisine after all that venison & duck, would be to Brenner.
