Recommendation for favorite Korean BBQ in NJ

I really like So Moon Nan Jip in Ridgefield Park, jumolok is my favorite and saeng kalbi is good too.

Chung Dam Dong down the street is really good for the chul pan gui, they stir fry mix of seafood, beef, pork, and chicken, then when you are done, they put in rice, noodles, rice cakes, etc to soak up the sauce.

Lunch 34th& 5th

Walk down to 32nd, you've got Korea town. Better check out Gahm Mi Oak before it closes - get the sul long tang (oxbone broth soup, served with fresh kimchi, add salt and green onions to taste). Their bibimbap is also exemplary.

For BBQ, I prefer New Wonjo - only place in Ktown that has coals instead of gas/electric BBQ.

Pete Wells Explores Korean Restaurants in Queens

Kimchi has such a wide variation in how it's prepared and served, so while it may not be to your personal preference there isn't really a canonical level of spiciness.

Agree with you on the coal vs gas - I'm not as familiar with Flushing Korean as I am with NJ Korean, so no good recommendations for places in Flushing.

I think what you want is songpyeon - I am not sure if Yedang in Queens has it to go, though.

What bygone food fad do you still enjoy? [NYC]

Korean fried chicken. Ktown Hof (underground) has a pretty good happy hour deal (3 for $2 wings) and $16 pitchers of light beer. I like the spicy chicken better than bonchon or kyochon and it is certainly more affordable.

Where to get pork neck in NYC?

A lot of Korean restaurants will have gamcha tang, it's pork neck stew with potatoes. So check out K-town, I know Gahm mi oak and Cho dang gol have it.

Not sure, it's been at least a month since I've been.

Horse meat in Manhattan

Well, not in Manhattan, but there's an Ikea in Brooklyn and also in NJ. Don't they have horse meatballs?

What is the best best Korean soft tofu stew in the NYC area?

NY Tofu House in the east village is also known as So Kong Dong, I guess they wanted a more marketable name. It's pretty good too.

BCD Tofu House OPEN!

Were they closed? I hadn't noticed, I'll have to check it out. I recently ate at the BCD Tofu house in Ft Lee, it was excellent.

Lillie's Victorian Establishment--Union Square

Yeah, it's a good place to grab a beer or a scotch or three. The food is pretty decent.

I love going around the holidays, they really go crazy with the Christmas decorations.

Recommendations near the Cloisters?

Malecon has good roast chicken and the mofongo de longaniza is good too.

El Conde, right next door, does a pretty good skirt steak.

Manolo, which is on 176th and Bway, has decent tapas and wine menu.

Closer to the Cloisters, there are a number of restaurants around 187th and Ft Washington. Refried Beans has standard Tex/Mex- okay, not great. Kismat has standard north Indian food. Bleu is OK, but in my opinion overpriced. Same with the restaurant Next Door.

If it's a nice day, stop in Franks Gourmet Market- they have a good number of prepared foods and you could do up a picnic.

K-town lunch with parents?

Check out Cho Dang Gol on 35th. They don't have grills for BBQ, but the stir fry dishes and casseroles are pretty good and the bibimbap is very good.

SE Asian - Thai or Vietnamese - on the west side

UWS, Hells Kitchen, West Village, doesn't matter. I never go out for this kind of food, so I don't know good places. My parents are coming to town and I want to take them someplace nice before they go to the theater. I'd rather avoid Theater District restaurants, but it's not out of the question.

Food quality and price are my biggest concerns; it's actually better if the place is not too fancy.

Any recommendations?

Koreatown Christmas - group of 10 need help

I love love love Cho Dang Gol, 35th and 6th. Personal favorite is the ssam jung sik, which is pork belly and squid stir fry served up with lettuce for wrapping. Soups and stews are great too!

Maybe try to make a reservation for a group that big. I see families that size there all the time though.

What's a good place for Bibimbap?

I really love Cho Dang Gol, it is very rustic and delicious food. Their bibimbap is very good.

The food court on 32nd has decent bibimbap as well. You will see a lot of high school kids/ college freshmans here.
